Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia with delayed Diagnosis: Report of Two Cases

Introduction: Advances in prenatal imaging studies have allowed early diagnosis of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), although neonatal mortality remains at high levels (60% survival). despite advances, this study found delayed diagnosis, demonstrating subdiagnosis, possibly caused by lack of resources and/or prenatal diagnostic failure. Case Report 1: Infant, 4 months and 22 days old, dyspneic, cyanotic, with fever and vomiting for 3 days, treated as pneumonia. After the second chest radiography, a right CDH was revealed. Surgical correction was performed and removal of Meckel’s diverticulum was surgical findings. The patient was discharged on the 10th days after admission. Case Report 2: Infant, 11 months and 3 days old, distended abdomen, with fever and dyspnea for 2 days, treated as pneumonia. After the second chest radiography, a left CDH was revealed. The patient was submitted to surgery, intestinal loop incarceration without necrosis was observed, and the correction of CDH was performed. The patient was discharged on the 7th day after admission. Discussion: Three cases, between July 2012 and July 2013, were diagnosed at Dom Malam Hospital;2 Cases of CDH, with delayed diagnosis, showed incidence of 66.66%. delayed diagnosis of these patients with initial hypotheses of pneumonia demonstrated high risk, emphasizing the importance of diagnosis research through observation of the clinical course, the correct imaging interpretation, in order to establish early diagnosis and treatment.

Telencephalic stab wound injury induces regenerative angiogenesis and neurogenesis in zebrafish:unveiling the role of vascular endothelial growth factor signaling and microglia

Objective: To evaluate the synergic effects of a novel oral supplement formulation, containing prebiotics,yeast b-glucans, minerals and silymarin(Silybum marianum), on lipid and glycidic metabolism, inflammatory and mitochondrial proteins of the liver, in control and high-fat diet-induced obese ***: After an acclimation period, 32 male C57 BL/6 mice were divided into the following groups:nonfat diet(NFD) vehicle, NFD supplemented, high-fat diet(HFD) vehicle and HFD supplemented. The vehicle and experimental formulation were administered orally by gavage once a day during the last four weeks of the diet(28 consecutive days). We then evaluated energy homeostasis, inflammation, and mitochondrial protein expression in these groups of ***: After four weeks of supplementation, study groups experienced reduced glycemia, dyslipidemia,fat, and hepatic fibrosis levels. Additionally, proliferator-activated receptor-α, AMP-activated protein kinase-1α, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ co-activator-1α, and mitochondrial transcription factor A expression levels were augmented;however, levels of inhibitor of nuclear factor-κB kinase subunit a and p65 nuclear factor-κB expression, and oxidative markers were reduced. Notably, the cortisol/C-reactive protein ratio, a well-characterized marker of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis immune interface status, was found to be modulated by the ***: We discovered that the novel supplement was able to modify different antioxidant, metabolic and inflammatory pathways, improving the energy homeostasis and inflammatory status, and consequently alleviated hepatic steatosis.

From the lab to the world： The paradigmatic assumption and the functional cognition of avian foraging

Mechanisms of animal learning and memory were traditionally studied without reference to niche-specific functional considerations. More recently, ecological demands have informed such investigations, most notably with respect to foraging in birds. In parallel, behavioural ecologists, primarily concerned with functional optimization, have begun to consider the role of mechanistic factors, including cognition, to explain apparent deviations from optimal predictions. In the present paper we discuss the application of laboratory-based constructs and paradigms of cognition to the real-world challenges faced by avian foragers. We argue that such applications have been handicapped by what we term the ＇paradigmatic assumption＇ - the assumption that a given laboratory paradigm maps well enough onto a congruent cognitive mechanism （or cognitive ability） to justify confiation of the two. We present evidence against the paradigmatic assumption and suggest that to achieve a profitable integration between function and mechanism, with respect to animal cognition, a new conceptualization of cognitive mechanisms - functional cogni- tion - is required. This new conceptualization should define cognitive mechanisms based on the informational properties of the animal＇s environment and the adaptive challenges faced. Cognitive mechanisms must be examined in settings that mimic the im- portant aspects of the natural environment, using customized tasks designed to probe defined aspects of the mechanisms＇ opera- tion. We suggest that this approach will facilitate investigations of the functional and evolutionary relevance of cognitive mecha- nisms, as well as the patterns of divergence, convergence and specialization of cognitive mechanisms within and between species .

development of a protocol for frost-tolerance evaluation in rapeseed/canola(Brassica napus L.)

Spring frost can severely damage or even kill rapeseed/canola(Brassica napus L.) seedlings. A protocol for large scale screening of rapeseed germplasm under frost-simulating conditions has not yet been developed. Accordingly, the present study was conducted to develop a protocol for screening rapeseed germplasm under artificial frost-simulation conditions in a plant growth chamber and in a greenhouse. Nine rapeseed varieties, including three commercial hybrids, three spring types, and three winter types were used. Cold acclimation at 4 °C was applied for 0, 7, or 14 days to two-week old seedlings. The seedlings were treated with four freezing temperatures(- 4 °C,- 8 °C,- 12 °C, and- 16 °C). The length of the freezing period was 16 h, including the ramping of temperature down from 4 °C and up from the respective freezing temperature to 4 °C. Plants were allowed to recover at 4 °C for24 h before they were moved back to the greenhouse. Frost damage was scored on a 0–5scale, where 0 denotes completely dead and 5 denotes no damage. Seedling survival from the freezing treatment increased from the non-acclimation to the cold acclimation treatment. However, no significant differences(P und between 7 and14 days of acclimation. Frost treatment at- 4 °C resulted in significant differences in seedling damage relative to the other three temperatures, with the- 16 °C treatment resulting in the highest overall seedling damage. Significant differences were found between the spring type and the other two types(hybrid and winter). However, no significant differences were found between the hybrid and winter types. The suggested protocol for the assessment of frost tolerance is acclimation of two-week old seedlings for7 days at 4 °C followed by frost treatment at- 4 °C for 16 h.

Considering the environment of risks and influences inherent in the decision-making process for credit-granting operations,it has become a matter of survival for financial organizations to seek to improve how they engage in effective decision-making to ensure that their returns on invested capital will meet the expectations established at the beginning of the process.A credit-granting sorting model for financial organizations is *** model aggregates the perspectives of different decision-makers to support an organization in the process of credit analysis and,consequently,to improve its *** decision-making model is based on the ELECTRE TRI-B multicriteria *** sorts credit-granting proposals into three classes,namely credit approved,technical analysis,and credit *** group decision emerges from the decision rules of the organization’s executive *** new proposed approach to dealing with credit-granting results in the systematization of credit analysis,reduction of doubt among decision-makers,avoidance of the emergence of informal groups,reduction of conflicts within a financial organization,and external interferences.

Effects of spatial and temporal weather data resolutions on streamflow modeling of a semi-arid basin,Northeast Brazil

One major difficulty in the application of distributed hydrological models is the availability of data with sufficient quantity and quality to perform an adequate evaluation of a watershed and to capture its *** Soil&Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)was used in this study to analyze the hydrologic responses to different sources,spatial scales,and temporal resolutions of weather inputs for the semi-arid Jaguaribe watershed(73000 km2)in northeastern *** different simulations were conducted,based on four groups of weather and precipitation inputs:Group 1-SWAT Weather Generator based on monthly data from four airport weather stations and daily data based on 124 local rain gauges;Group 2-daily local data from 14 weather stations and 124 precipitation gauges;Group 3-Daily values from a global coupled forecast model(NOAA’s Climate Forecast System Reanalysis-CFSR);and Group 4-CFSR data with 124 local precipitation *** four simulations were evaluated using multiple statistical efficiency metrics for four streamflow gauges,using:Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient(NSE),determination coefficient(R2),the ratio of the root mean square to the standard deviation of the observed data(RSR),and the percent bias(PBIAS).The Group 4 simulation performed best overall(provided the best statistical values)with results ranked as“good”or“very good”on all four efficiency metrics suggesting that using CFSR data for weather parameters other than precipitation,coupled with precipitation data from local rain gauges,can provide reasonable hydrologic *** second best results were obtained with Group 1,which provided“good”results in three of four efficiency *** 2 performed worse overall than Groups 1 and 4,probably due to uncertainty related to daily measures and a large percentage of missing *** 2 and 3 were“unsatisfactory”according to three or four of the efficiency metrics,indicating that the choice of weather data is very important.
