An examination of the population dynamics of syngnathid fishes within Tampa Bay,Florida,USA

Seagrass ecosystems worldwide have been declining, leading to a decrease in associated fish populations, especiallythose with low mobility such as syngnathids (pipefish and seahorses). This two-year pilot study investigated seasonal patterns indensity, growth, site fidelity, and population dynamics of Tampa Bay (Fl) syngnathid fishes at a site adjacent to two marinas underconstruction. Using a modified mark-recapture technique, fish were collected periodically from three closely located sites thatvaried in seagrass species (Thalassia spp., Syringodium spp., and mixed-grass sites) and their distance from open water, but hadconsistent physical/chemical environmental characteristics. Fish were marked, photographed for body size and gender measurements,and released the same day at the capture site. Of the 5695 individuals surveyed, 49 individuals were recaptured, indicatinga large, flexible population. Population density peaks were observed in July of both years, with low densities in late winter andlate summer. Spatially, syngnathid densities were highest closest to the mouth of the bay and lowest near the shoreline. Sevenspecies of syngnathid fishes were observed, and species-specific patterns of seagrass use emerged during the study. However,only two species, Syngnathus scovelli and Hippocampus zosterae, were observed at high frequencies. For these two species, bodysize decreased across the study period, but while S. scovelli's population density decreased, H. zosterae's increased. The present study focuses on the formulation of new composite consisting of plaster and raffia vinifera particle (RVP) with the purpose to reducing energy consumption. The aim of this study is to test this new compound as an insulating eco-material in building in a tropical climate. The composites samples were developed by mixing plaster with raffia vinifera particles (RVP) using three different sizes (1.6 mm, 2.5 mm and 4 mm). The effects of four different RVP incorporations rates (i.e., 0wt%, 5wt%;10wt%;15wt%) on physical, thermal, mechanicals properties of the composites were investigated. In addition, the use of the raffia vinifera particles and plaster based composite material as building envelopes thermal insulation material is studied by the habitable cell thermal behavior instrumentation. The results indicate that the incorporation of raffia vinifera particle leads to improve the new composite physical, mechanical and thermal properties. And the parametric analysis reveals that the sampling rate and the size of raffia vinifera particles are the most decisive factor to impact these properties, and to decreases in the thermal conductivity which leads to an improvement to the thermal resistance and energy savings. The best improvement of plaster composite was obtained at the raffia vinifera particles size between 2.5 and 4.0 mm loading of 5wt% (C95P5R) with a good ratio of thermo-physical-mechanical properties. Additionally, the habitable cell experimental thermal behavior, with the new raffia vinifera particles and plaster-based composite as thermal insulating material for building walls, gives an average damping of 4°C and 5.8°C in the insulated house interior environment respectively for cold and hot cases compared to the outside environment and the uninsulated house interior environment. The current study highlights that this mixture gives the new composite thermal insulation properties applicable in the eco-construction of habitats in tropical environments

The emergence of antiretroviral resistance mutations represents a major threat to the achievement of national and global goals for the elimination of HIV-1 infection. The global strategy in 2019 in Cte d'Ivoire is a new national policy for the management of people living with HIV with the administration of dolutegravir (DTG)-based fixed-dose combination. The aim of our study was to evaluate HIV-1 resistance to antiretrovirals (ARVs) in infected adult subjects in Cte d’Ivoire in the context of a systematic switch to a DTG-based combination. Between February 2022 and October 2023, a cross-sectional survey with random sampling was conducted in 06 services caring for people living with HIV. A total of 139 participants were included in the study. Adults with a viral load ≥ 1000 copies/ml were tested for HIV-1 ARV resistance mutations. Molecular analyses were performed using protocol of ANRS-MIE (National Agency for Research on AIDS and emerging infectious diseases). The interpretation is performed by HIVGRAD (https://***/cms/grade/). The frequencies of HIV-1 resistance to non-nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs), nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), integrase inhibitors (IINTs) and protease inhibitors (PIs) were 82%, 73%, 19% and 11% respectively. The main mutations observed in the different classes were K103N (45%), M184V (64%), E157Q (19%) and l10V/M46I/A71V/I54V (6%) respectively. This study reveals the emergence of resistance to DTG-based fixed-dose combinations, favored by high rates of resistance to NRTIs and NNRTIs. This finding underlines the need for enhanced viral load monitoring and HIV-1 genotyping tests to guide the choice of NRTIs for combination therapy. In addition, monitoring for mutations to second-generation NRTIs is essential, given the scale-up of DTG-based regimens currently underway in Cte d’Ivoire.

Muscle energy technique for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease:A feasibility study

Objective:This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of implementing a manual therapy technique(muscle energy technique,MET)protocol in a hospital pulmonary rehabilitation(PR)program for patients with moderate to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods:Participants aged 40 years and over,with moderate to severe COPD,were recruited into this 12-week *** primary outcome measures were feasibility(acceptability of the intervention and attendance/adherence to the trial)and safety(adverse events,AEs).All participants received the MET and PR *** and assessors were ***-standardized MET was delivered on 6 occasions(a maximum of once per week)at the hospital directly before a PR *** undertook PR sessions as per the hospital program at a frequency of two days per week for 8 *** were contacted 4 weeks after their final MET treatment via a telephone call to assess acceptability of the ***:Thirty-three participants were enrolled,with a median age of 74 years(range 45-89 years).The median number of MET sessions that participants attended was 5(range O-6)out of a possible 6 sessions(83%attendance).At follow-up,participants overwhelmingly enjoyed the MET treatment with some subjectively reporting improved *** were no major AEs related to the intervention,with the majority of AEs classified as expected events related to COPD ***:It is feasible to implement a manual therapy protocol using MET as an adjunct to PR in a hospital *** rates were satisfactory and there were no AEs related to the MET component of the intervention.

Development of a protocol for frost-tolerance evaluation in rapeseed/canola(Brassica napus l.)

Spring frost can severely damage or even kill rapeseed/canola(Brassica napus l.) seedlings. A protocol for large scale screening of rapeseed germplasm under frost-simulating conditions has not yet been developed. Accordingly, the present study was conducted to develop a protocol for screening rapeseed germplasm under artificial frost-simulation conditions in a plant growth chamber and in a greenhouse. Nine rapeseed varieties, including three commercial hybrids, three spring types, and three winter types were used. Cold acclimation at 4 °C was applied for 0, 7, or 14 days to two-week old seedlings. The seedlings were treated with four freezing temperatures(- 4 °C,- 8 °C,- 12 °C, and- 16 °C). The length of the freezing period was 16 h, including the ramping of temperature down from 4 °C and up from the respective freezing temperature to 4 °C. Plants were allowed to recover at 4 °C for24 h before they were moved back to the greenhouse. Frost damage was scored on a 0–5scale, where 0 denotes completely dead and 5 denotes no damage. Seedling survival from the freezing treatment increased from the non-acclimation to the cold acclimation treatment. However, no significant differences(P limation. Frost treatment at- 4 °C resulted in significant differences in seedling damage relative to the other three temperatures, with the- 16 °C treatment resulting in the highest overall seedling damage. Significant differences were found between the spring type and the other two types(hybrid and winter). However, no significant differences were found between the hybrid and winter types. The suggested protocol for the assessment of frost tolerance is acclimation of two-week old seedlings for7 days at 4 °C followed by frost treatment at- 4 °C for 16 h.

Application of Power Electronics and Control for Dual Battery Packs Management with Voltage Balancing and State of Charge Estimation

Energy storage, such as lead acid batteries, is necessary for renewable energy sources’ autonomy because of their intermittent nature, which makes them more frequently used than traditional energy sources to reduce operating costs. The battery storage system has to be monitored and managed to prevent serious problems such as battery overcharging, over-discharging, overheating, battery unbalancing, thermal runaway, and fire dangers. For voltage balancing between batteries in the pack throughout the charging period and the SOC estimate, a modified lossless switching mechanism is used in this research’s suggested battery management system. The OCV state of charge calculation, in the beginning, was used in conjunction with the coulomb counting approach to estimate the SOC. The results reveal that correlation factor K has an average value of 0.3 volts when VM ≥ 12 V and an average value of 0.825 when VM ≤ 12 V. The battery monitoring system revealed that voltage balancing was accomplished during the charging process in park one after 80 seconds with a SOC difference of 1.4% between Batteries 1 and 2. On the other hand, the system estimates the state of charge during the discharging process in two packs, with a maximum DOD of 10.8 V for all batteries. The project’s objectives were met since the BMS estimated SOC and achieved voltage balance.
