Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) represents the most common and emerging chronic liver disease worldwide. It includes a wide spectrum of liver diseasesranging from simple fatty liver to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH),which may progress to fibrosis and more severe liver complications such as cirrhosis,hepatocellular carcinoma and liver mortality. NAFLD is strongly associated with obesity,insulin resistance,hypertension,and dyslipidaemia,and is now regarded as the liver manifestation of the metabolic syndrome. The increased mortality of patients with NAFLD is primarily a result of cardiovascular disease and,to a lesser extent,to liver related diseases. Increased oxidative stress has been reported in both patients with NAFLD and patient with cardiovascular risk factors. Thus,oxidative stress represents a shared pathophysiological disorder between the two conditions. Several therapeutic strategies targeting oxidative stress reduction in patients with NAFLD have been proposed,with conflicting results. In particular,vitamin e supplementation has been suggested for the treatment of non-diabetic,non-cirrhotic adults with active NASH,although this recommendation is based only on the results of a single randomized controlled trial. Other antioxidant treatments suggested are resveratrol,silybin,L-carnitine and pentoxiphylline. No trial so far,has evaluated the cardiovascular effects of antioxidant treatment in patients with NAFLD. New,large-scale studies including as end-point also the assessment of the atherosclerosis markers are needed.

Our objective was to evaluate the effect of chronic gestational treatment and post-breast feeding with purple grape juice on the biochemical parameters in offspring of dams. We used 40 male offspring from 14 Wistar rats which received purple grape juice or water by gavage daily for 42 days at a dose of 7 microliters/g. The offspring were divided into groups of water or juice. All received daily purple grape juice or water by gavage for 30 days after completion of their nursing period at a dose of 7 microliters/g. At the end of the treatment period, the offspring were euthanized by decapitation with its truncal blood collected and subsequently separated the serum from the blood. The measurements were performed by automation or by manual dosing. Considering the gestational factor, grape juice was able to reduce levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, urea, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and not alter the levels of creatinine and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) in serum of the offspring. When considering the post-breast feeding factor, grape juice resulted in an improvement in HDL-C. We concluded that purple grape juice was able to produce a beneficial effect on certain biochemical parameters in offspring.

The urea cycle is the final pathway for nitrogen metabolism. Urea cycle disorders(UCDs) include a variety of genetic defects, which lead to inefficient urea synthesis. elevated blood ammonium level is usually dominant in the clinical pattern and the primary manifestations affect the central nervous system. Herein, we report the case of a 17-year-old girl who was diagnosed with UCD at the age of 3. Despite a controlled diet, she was hospitalized several times for acute attacks with recurrent life risk. She came to our attention for a hyperammonemic episode. We proposed an orthotopic liver transplant(OLT) as a treatment; the patient and her family were in complete agreement. On February 28, 2007, she successfully received a transplant. Following the surgery, she has remained well, and she is currently leading a normal life. Usually for UCDs diet plays the primary therapeutic role, while OLT is often considered as a last resort. Our case report and the recent literature data on the quality of life and prognosis of traditionally treated patients vs OLT patients, support OLT as a primary intervention to prevent life-threatening acute episodes and chronic mental impairment.

This study aims to evaluate the possible allelopathic effects of young and mature leaf extract from of two eucalyptus genetic materials on the physiological performance of millet seeds. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design, in a 5 × 2 × 2 factorial arrangement [five concentrations of the extract (0, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%) × two genetic materials (1 - eucalyptus grandis × eucalyptus urophylla and 2 - eucalyptus grandis × eucalyptus camaldulensis) × two maturation stages of leaves (young and mature leaves)] with four replicates, each one with 25 seeds. Seeding was performed on the germitest paper substrate distributed in Petri dishes, moistened with the extract according to the treatments, being allocated in biochemical oxygen demand (B.O.D) adjusted at 25°C and 12 h photoperiod. Percentage, speed index, mean germination time, aerial part and primary root length, and dry matter weight of aerial part and root system of seedlings were evaluated. The leaf extracts of the two eucalyptus clones had all the analyzed variables changed with effect more evident on young leaf extract of the genetic material 1. It can be concluded that the tested genetic materials have a detrimental effect on the physiological performance of millet seeds.

The new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) broke out in Wuhan in China in December 2019, causing severe pneumonia and deaths, soon in March 2020, it reached pandemic level, affecting several countries including Brazil. The disease was named COVID-19, with characteristics of most infected having mild and moderate symptoms and a part severe symptom. The disease has already reached 158 ethnic groups, which have high vulnerability and limited access to health services. The objective is to investigate the clinical and spatial characteristics of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome of COVID-19 in the indigenous peoples of Brazil. It is an epidemiological, cross-sectional, analytical ecological study, based on data from the OpenDataSUS platform from 01/01/2020 to 31/08/2020. Profile variables, signs and symptoms and risk factors/comorbidities. The data were analyzed by Bioestat 5.3. There were 1,207 cases and 470 deaths. Profile: male gender (59.48%) means age 53 years. Signs and symptoms: fever (74.23%), cough (77.71%), sore throat (35.62%), dyspnea (69.34%), respiratory discomfort (62.80%), O2 saturation ed with mortality: dyspnea (80.0%) and O2 saturation es (45.89%) were associated with deaths (54.04%). About comorbidities, chronic cardiovascular diseases represented (18.97%) and Diabetes Mellitus (18.97%), and associated with deaths: Chronic Cardiovascular Disease (24.46%). Being admitted to the ICU has a risk of death in (OR-3.96- ed by not being vaccinated against influenza (OR-1.85- e public and health policies of Brazil should be directed to control the dissemination of COVID-19 in this population, that COVID-19 evolves in the same intensity, however, the indigenous have vulnerabilities that can increase the impact of the pandemic in this population.

The term ecology is derived from οἶκος (Greek “house” or environment), but our habitations usually overlooked in ecology or environmental studies. The expression “at home” usually means safety and comfort, but at home we are under risk of innumerous parasitic/microbial infections and contaminations/ envenomation. During the COVID-19 pandemic we were forced to stay at home, but the virus and other pathogens were also home-delivered. Education for health is highly effective in health promotion, particularly in poor areas. Thus, prophylactic interventions approaching household environment are required. The present activity aims community empowerment and engagement in controlling parasitic diseases and other infections such as Chagas disease, leishmaniasis, malaria, arboviruses etc. Inspired on the use of a house maket by Dr. Virgínia Schall to demonstrate Aedes mosquitoes breeding sites. We also employ house makets displaying pathogen vectors breeding/hiding sites. Although some makets can be opened, revealing intradomiciliary milieu, we intended to offer the public a literally “insider” view of this largely overlooked scenery. The “Interactive House”, also known as “House with no viruses and other bugse="font-family:Verdana;">” is an educative, interactive, ludic device elaborated on an inflatable igloo, with furniture and utensils crafted using reused/recycled or low-cost materials. AIM: To evaluate the nutritional status and its association with proinflammatory cytokines in children with chronic liver ***: We performed a cross-sectional study with 43 children and adolescents, aged 0 to 17 years, diagnosed with chronic liver disease. All patients regularly attended the Pediatric Hepatology Unit and were under nutritional follow up. The exclusion criteria were fever from any etiology at the time of enrollment, inborn errors of the metabolism and any chronic illness. The severity of liver disease was assessed by Child-Pugh, Model for end-stage Liver Disease(MeLD) and Pediatric end Stage Liver Disease(PeLD) scores. Anthropometric parameters were height/age, body mass index/age and triceps skinfold/age according to World Health Organization standards. The cutoff points for nutritional status were risk of malnutrition(Z-score e erleukin-1β(IL-1β), IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α levels were assessed by commercial eLISA kits. For multivariate analysis, linear regression was applied to assess the association between cytokine levels, disease severity and nutritional status. ReSULTS: The median(25th-75 th centile) age of the study population was 60(17-116)-mo-old, and 53.5% were female. Biliary atresia was the main cause of chronic liver disease(72%). With respect to Child-Pugh score, cirrhotic patients were distributed as follows: 57.1% Child-Pugh A, a mild presentation of the disease, 34.3% Child-Pugh B, a moderate stage of cirrhosis and 8.6% Child-Pugh C, were considered severe cases. PeLD and MeLD scores were only above the cutoff point in 5 cases. IL-6 values were increased in patients at nutritional risk(34.9%) compared with those who were well-nourished [7.12(0.58-34.23) pg/m L vs 1.63(0.53-3.43) pg/m L; P = 0.02], correlating inversely with triceps skinfold-for-age z-score(rs =-0.61; P evels were associated with liver disease severity assessed by Child-Pugh score(P = 0.001).

Background:Serotoninergic pathways underlying delusion symptoms in Alzheimer’s disease(AD)have not been fully clarified.5-Hydroxytryptamine transporter gene-linked polymorphic region(5-HTTLPR)is a variable number tandem repeats in the promoter region of serotonin transporter encoding-gene affecting ***:We investigated the association of 5-HTTLPR with delusions in a total of 257 consecutive patients clinically diagnosed as AD according to the National Institute on Aging-Alzheimer’s Association *** participants underwent a comprehensive evaluation with a standardized comprehensive geriatric assessment and Neuropsychiatric ***:Delusion symptoms were observed in 171 patients(66.54%).In respect to AD patients without delusions,AD patients with delusions showed a low prevalence of S-plus carriers(5-HTTLPR-L/S+5-HTTLPR-S/S genotypes)[pence interval(CI)=0.121–0.471].Logistic regression analysis adjusted for the apolipoprotein e polymorphism showed that in AD patients with delusions the presence of an 5-HTTLPR-S allele may reduce disease duration(p=0.005;OR=0.680,95% CI=0.522–0.886)and increase aberrant motor activity(p=0.013;OR=2.257,95% CI=1.195–4.260).The present findings suggested that 5-HTTLPR might be associated with delusions in AD.S-plus carriers might be associated with protective effect against delusions in ***:More studies on wider samples of high selected demented patients are needed to confirm our ***,the present findings suggested that a genetic factor related to serotonin metabolism might exert a protective role on the clinical expression of neuropsychiatric clusters in AD with important implications regarding mechanisms underlying delusions and their possible treatment across the AD and dementia spectrum.
