Hexavalent chromium(Cr(Ⅵ))is a water-soluble pollutant in soil and groundwater,the mobility,bioavailability,and toxicity of which can be controlled by transforming to less mobile and more environmentally benign Cr(Ⅲ)by ways of *** review focused on recent advances in identifying the reaction pathways,kinetics,and products of iron-based techniques for Cr(Ⅵ)*** also examines new information regarding remobilization of Cr(Ⅲ)in the existence of complexing ligands and manganese(Mn)of different oxidation states.A range of iron-based techniques can remove Cr(Ⅵ)from water by adsorption or reduction-coprecipitation ***,the success of a chromium treatment or remediation strategy requires the stability of the Cr(Ⅲ)-containing solids with respect to solubilization or reoxidation in the settings they are *** is ubiquitous in aquatic and terrestrial environments,and the redox cycling of manganese may greatly influence the fate,transport,and distribution of *** of redox reactions of chromium,iron,and manganese involves reaction pathways not only in the aqueous phase but also at solid-aqueous *** provide a quantitative understanding of these processes,it is essential to develop mechanistically based kinetic and transport *** research should be made on iron-based treatment of Cr(Ⅵ)-contaminated water and soils and the stability of the subsequently produced Cr(Ⅲ)-containing solids at environmentally relevant conditions,which will support improved predictions of chromium's environmental fate and transport and aid in decision-making for remediation and treatment of Cr contamination.

Transplantation of neuronal precursors derived from human pluripotent stem cells is a promising therapy for the treatment of neurological disorders associated with neuronal loss,such us neurodegenerative diseases,brain trauma and *** functional integration of grafted neurons differentiated from stem cells into the host injured neuronal circuitry has been a major challenge in cell therapy strategies for brain repair(Palma-Tortosa et al.,2021).Even though other cell types or mechanisms may provide modest clinical improvements,neuronal replacement and reconstruction of the damaged area are crucial for an optimal and long-term recovery.

Expansion of Small Terrestrial Mammals and Their Parasites into the Barun Valley (Makalu Mt. region, Nepal Himalaya) Linked with Changes in Glaciation and Human Activities

The article is based on collection of small terrestrial mammals(Soriculus nigrescens,Episoriculus caudatus, Neodon sikimensis,Alticola stoliczkanus, Niviventer eha and Ochotona roylei) collected in the Barun Valley, east Nepal in the pre-monsoon period of *** and ecological characteristics and altitudinal stratification of these species are analysed, depending both on abiotic(geomorphological and climatic) and biotic(vegetation, and human presence and activities)factors. All the captured mammals were examined for ecto- and endoparasities. Infestations of Trombiculid mites and Ixodid ticks were tightly linked to the local habitat where these ectoparasites must survive during their nonparasitic phase. Analysis of their occurrence completes the reconstruction of migration routes during the expansion of small mammals into the Barun Valley and the exacerbating influence of human activities(summer pasturing,mountaineering expeditions and trekking parties).An indicator of anthropogenic influence was the occurrence of synantropic flies. The potential medical importance of these findings is *** is assumed a possible occurrence of arboviruses transmitted by ticks and also rickettsioses(transmitted by ticks and chigger mites). As far bacteriological infections, plague cannot be excluded.

Predicting the synthesizability of crystalline inorganic materials from the data of known material compositions

reliably identifying synthesizable inorganic crystalline materials is an unsolved challenge required for realizing autonomous materials *** this work,we develop a deep learning synthesizability model(SynthNN)that leverages the entire space of synthesized inorganic chemical *** reformulating material discovery as a synthesizability classification task,SynthNN identifies synthesizable materials with 7×higher precision than with DFT-calculated formation *** a head-to-head material discovery comparison against 20 expert material scientists,SynthNN outperforms all experts,achieves 1.5×higher precision and completes the task five orders of magnitude faster than the best human ***,without any prior chemical knowledge,our experiments indicate that SynthNN learns the chemical principles of charge-balancing,chemical family relationships and ionicity,and utilizes these principles to generate synthesizability *** development of SynthNN will allow for synthesizability constraints to be seamlessly integrated into computational material screening workflows to increase their reliability for identifying synthetically accessible materials.

Adsorptive removal of resorcinol on a novel ordered mesoporous carbon(OMC) employing COK-19 silica scaffold:Kinetics and equilibrium study

Phenolic compounds and their derivatives have been found in industrial wastewater, which pose threats to the natural environment. Ordered mesoporous carbon(OMC) has been identified as an ideal adsorbent possessing high specific surface area and large pore volume to alleviate these pollutants. A novel ordered mesoporous carbon was prepared using COK-19 template with the cubic Fm3 m structure for the first time. Ordered mesoporous silica COK-19 was synthesized and reported in 2015. Sucrose as the carbon precursor was impregnated into the mesopores of silica and converted to carbon through carbonization process using sulfuric acid as a catalyst. Ordered mesoporous carbon was obtained after the removal of silica framework using hydrofluoric acid. Boric acid was employed for the preparation of OMCs with tunable pore sizes in the range of 6.9–16.6 nm. Several characterization techniques such as nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherms, transmission electron microscope(TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Boehm titration and elemental analysis were employed to characterize the OMCs. The pore size analysis and TEM images confirmed that OMC has replicated the mesostructure of the COK-19. results obtained from adsorption kinetics and isotherms suggest that the Pseudo-second-order model and Langmuir isotherm well described the experimental data.

AIM:To investigate whether the secretion of phospha-tidylcholine(PC)in intestinal mucus occurs by apical secretion or via basolateral excretion and to determine its subsequent passage across the tight junctions to the apical ***:We addressed this question using the po-larized intestinally differentiated tumor cell line CaCo-2 grown on filters to confluence in Transwell culture *** released PC and sphingomyelin(Sph)from apical and basolateral media were analyzed by mass ***:The secreted PC species were identical in both compartments indicating the same intracellular origin of ***,PC secretion into the basolateral compart-ment was more effective,and the PC:Sph ratio in the ba-solateral compartment was signif icantly higher than that in the apical compartment(8.18 ± 1.84 vs 4.31 ± 1.22,P = 0.01).Both pathways were temperature sensitive and were unaltered in the presence of ***:The data demonstrate the PC secre-tion capacity of CaCo-2 cells and indicate two sepa-rated apical and basolateral release mechanisms.

The Covalent Binding of Genistein to the Non-prosthetic-heme-moiety of Bovine Lactoperoxidase Leads to Enzymatic Inactivation

Objective Genistein, a major soy isoflavone metabolite （SIF）, inactivates oxidation activity of bovine lactoperoxidase （LPO）. Modification of the heme moiety of LPO by nitrogen-containing compounds has been shown to inactivate LPO. In contrast, SIF mediated inactivation of LPO does not involve a heme modification and the mechanism of SIF inhibition is poorly understood. Methods After inactivation of LPO by genistein in the presence of H202, trypsin-digested LPO peptide fragments were collected and analyzed by MALDI-TOF-MS to characterize the chemical binding of genistein（s） to LPO. results The heme moiety of LPO was not modified by genistein. A covalent binding study showed that 3H-genistein bound to LPO with a ratio of ~12 to 1. After HPLC analysis and peak collection, trypsin-digested peptide fragments were analyzed by MALDI-TOF-MS. The 3H-genistein co-eluted peptide fragments （rT=24 min） were putatively identified as 1991VGYLDEEGVLDQNr214 with two bound genistein molecules or a genistein dimer （2 259 Da）, 486TPDNIDIWlGGNAEPMVEr504 with two bound genistein molecules or a genistein dimer （2 663 Da）, and 161ArWLPAEYEDGLALPFGWTQr182 with three bound genistein molecules or a genistein trimer （3 060 Da）. The fragment with a mass of 2 792 Da （rT=36 min） was identified as 132CDENSPYr139 with three genistein molecules or a genistein trimer. Conclusions The results suggest that LPO was inactivated by irreversible covalent binding of genistein or genistein polymers to particular peptide fragments constituting regions of the outward domain. No genistein interaction with the prosthetic heme moiety of LPO was observed.
