Role for mycobacterial infection in pathogenesis of primary biliary cirrhosis?

primary biliary cirrhosis （pBC） is a progressive cho- lestatic liver disease characterized by the immune- mediated destruction of biliary epithelial cells in small intrahepatic bile ducts. The disease is characterized by circulating antimitochondrial antibodies （AMAs） as well as disease-specific antinuclear antibodies, cholestatic liver function tests, and characteristic histological fea- tures, including granulomas. A variety of organisms are involved in granuloma formation, of which mycobacte- ria are the most commonly associated. This has led to the hypothesis that mnycobacteria may be involved in the pathogenesis of pBC, along with other infectious agents. Additionally, AMAs are found in a subgroup of patients with rnycobacterial infections, such as lep- rosy and pulmonary tuberculosis. Antibodies against species-specific mycobacterial proteins have been re- ported in patients with pBC, but it is not clear whether these antibodies are specific for the disease. In addi- tion, data in support of the involvement of the role of molecular mimicry between rnycobacterial and human mitochondrial antigens as triggers of cross-reactive im- mune responses leading to the loss of immunological tolerance, and the induction of pathological features have been published. Thus, antibodies against myco- bacterial heat shock protein appear to cross-recognize AMA-specific autoantigens, but it is not clear whether these autoantibodies are mycobacterium-species-spe- cific, and whether they are pathogenic or incidental. The view that mycobacteria are infectious triggers of pBC is intriguing, but the data provided so far are not conclusive.

1 Introduction Ischemic heart disease is caused by atherosclerotic and/or thrombotic obstruction of coronary arteries. Clinical spec- trum of ischemic heart disease expands from asymptomatic atherosclerosis of coronary arteries to acute coronary syn- dromes （ACS） including unstable angina, acute myocardial infarction （non-ST elevation myocardial infarction and ST elevation myocardial infarction）. Stable ischemic heart dis- ease （SIHD） refers to patients with known or suspected SIHD who have no recent or acute changes in their symp- tomatic status, suggesting no active thrombotic process is underway.

A novel surface mesh deformation method for handling wing-fuselage intersections

This paper describes a method for mesh adaptation in the presence of intersections, such as wing-fuselage. Automatic optimization tools, using Computational Fluid Dynamics（CFD） simulations, face the problem to adapt the computational grid upon deformations of the boundary surface. When mesh regeneration is not feasible, due to the high cost to build up the computational grid, mesh deformation techniques are considered a cheap approach to adapt the mesh to changes on the geometry. Mesh adaptation is a well-known subject in the literature; however, there is very little work which deals with moving intersections. Without a proper treatment of the intersections,the use of automatic optimization methods for aircraft design is limited to individual *** proposed method takes advantage of the CAD description, which usually comes in the form of Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines（NURBS） patches. This paper describes an algorithm to recalculate the intersection line between two parametric surfaces. Then, the surface mesh is adapted to the moving intersection in parametric coordinates. Finally, the deformation is propagated through the volumetric mesh. The proposed method is tested with the DLR F6 wing-body configuration.

Thermoluminescence characteristics and dosimetric aspects of fluoroperovskites (NaMgF_3:Eu^(2+),Ce^(3+))

The perovskite-like NaMgF3 polycrystalline powder samples, pure and rare earth doped, were synthesized by conventional solid state reaction method. The perovskite material was doped with 0.2 mol.% of EuF3 and CeF3 impurity. phase purity of synthe-sized compounds was analyzed by powder X-ray diffraction technique. The thermoluminescence response of polycrystalline samples showed a linear response up to 12 Gy and then became sub linear at higher doses. The order of kinetics （b）, activation energy （E） and other trapping parameters were calculated using peak shape method and variable heating rate method. From glow curve analysis the symmetric factor was calculated. The glow curve showed two peaks at 404 and 488 K, and both of them confirmed the thermolumi-nescence in the phosphor, which obeyed second-order kinetics. The experimental resulted showed that this phosphor could have po-tential applications in radiation dosimetry.

Introduction:Land use/land cover change can affect the ecological processes of an area such as hydrological *** change in the condition of water resources of an area could be a good indicator of changes in ecosystem function as a result of altered land use/land *** expansion in central Ethiopia is one of the recent land use/land cover changes causing controversy on its potential ecological *** study was designed to evaluate effects of three adjacent land uses/land covers,*** land,grassland and Eucalyptus woodlot on surface runoff in Meja River watershed,central ***:The rainfall amount at each study catchment was collected using the rain gauge installed to record daily rainfall *** three land use/land cover types in each study catchment were selected for comparison as *** replications of each land use/land cover were used forming a total of 12 runoff *** rainfall and runoff data were collected twice a day for 91 ***:The study found that land use/land cover significantly affects surface runoff generated from the *** runoff was recorded from cultivated *** was no significant difference on runoff volume between grassland and Eucalyptus ***:This shows that expansion of Eucalyptus on grassland could not have significant impact on surface runoff generation but if planted on previously farmland could reduce surface runoff.

Status and Social Capital:A Cross-Sectional Quantitative Investigation of Flood Survivors in South punjab,pakistan

A growing body of evidence underscores that social capital mitigates the impact of natural hazards such as *** we know less about the distribution of social ties in developing countries regularly hit by *** study examined the differences between demographic groups in South punjab,pakistan affected by the 2010 floods,comparing respondents'levels of social capital measured through proxies such as received social support,perceived community cohesion,accessibility to leadership,and general level of *** carried out univariate and multivariate analyses of factors including gender,education,occupation,landholding,family size,annual income,number of livestock,and home *** data collected in face-to-face interviews with 450 flood survivors,our analysis showed no statistically significant difference in the flood victims'scores on all four scales based on gender and family ***,education,occupation,landholding,annual income,and home stability statistically correlated with levels of social *** with high levels of education,high levels of land,higher home stability,and a government job typically had higher scores in all four measurements of social *** results show strong inequality in the distribution of social capital,with better connections and assistance coming to those who already have better socioeconomic positions in society.

Kernel-Based State-Space Kriging for predictive Control

In this paper, we extend the state-space kriging(SSK) modeling technique presented in a previous work by the authors in order to consider non-autonomous systems. SSK is a data-driven method that computes predictions as linear combinations of past outputs. To model the nonlinear dynamics of the system, we propose the kernel-based state-space kriging(K-SSK), a new version of the SSK where kernel functions are used instead of resorting to considerations about the locality of the data. Also, a Kalman filter can be used to improve the predictions at each time step in the case of noisy measurements. A constrained tracking nonlinear model predictive control(NMpC) scheme using the black-box input-output model obtained by means of the K-SSK prediction method is proposed. Finally, a simulation example and a real experiment are provided in order to assess the performance of the proposed controller.

Efficacy of infliximab in acute severe ulcerative colitis:A single-centre experience

AIM:To suggest infliximab(IFX) is effective for acute severe ulcerative colitis,from real-life clinical ***:All patients receiving IFX for the treatment of acute severe ulcerative colitis in a single centre were *** were extracted from clinical records in order to assess response to IFX *** primary endpoint was colectomy-free survival,and secondary outcomes included glucocorticosteroid-free remission and safety,which was evaluated by recording deaths and adverse *** and clinical characteristics of those who underwent colectomy and those who were colectomy-free,both at discharge from their index admission,and during follow-up after an initial response to IFX were ***:Forty-four patients(16 females,mean age 36 years) received IFX between May 2006 and January 2012 for acute severe ulcerative *** median duration of follow-up post-first infusion was 396 d(interquartile range = 173-828 d).There were 21(47.7%) patients with p,10(22.7%) with 1 years to 2 years of follow-up,and 13(29.5%) with > 2 years of follow-up post-first infusion of ***,35(79.5%) responded to IFX,avoiding colectomy during their index admission,29(65.9%) were colectomyfree at last point of follow-up(median follow-up 396 d),and 25(56.8%) were in glucocorticosteroid-free remission at end of *** was one death from post-operative sepsis,20 d after a single IFX *** rates were generally lower among those "bridging" to *** 18 patients "bridged" to thiopurine therapy,17(94.4%) were colectomyfree,and 15(83.3%) were in glucocorticosteroid-free remission at study *** predictors of response were ***:IFX is effective for acute severe ulcerative colitis in real-life clinical ***-thirds of patients avoided colectomy,and more than 50% were in glucocorticosteroid-free remission.
