A lateral ankle sprain during a lateral backward step in badminton:A case report of a televised injury incident

Background:This study presents a kinematic analysis of an acute lateral ankle sprain incurred during a televised badminton *** kinematics of this injury were compared to those of 19 previously reported cases in the published ***:Four camera views of an acute lateral ankle sprain incurred during a televised badminton match were synchronized and rendered in3-dimensional animation software.A badminton court with known dimensions was built in a virtual environment,and a skeletal model scaled to the inj ured athlete’s height was used for skeletal *** ankle joint angle and angular velocity profiles of this acute injury were compared to the summarized findings from 19 previously reported cases in the published ***:At foot strike,the ankle joint was 2° everted,33° plantarflexed,and 18° internally *** inversion of 114° and internal rotation of 69° was achieved at 0.24 s and 0.20 s after foot strike,*** the foot strike,the ankle joint moved from an initial position of plantarflexion to dorsiflexion-from 33° plantarflexion to 53° dorsiflexion(range=86°).Maximum inversion,dorsiflexion,and internal rotation angular velocity were 1262°/s,961°/s,and 677°/s,respectively,at 0.12 s after foot ***:A forefoot landing posture with a plantarflexed and internally rotated ankle joint configuration could incite an acute lateral ankle sprain injury in *** of lateral ankle sprains in badminton should focus on the control and stability of the ankle joint angle during forefoot landings,especially when the athletes perform a combined lateral and backward step.

This is then followed by a brief introduction to the papers assembled for this special issue.

Rags to Riches:positive psychological Attributes and Spiritual Factors Creating Meaning

In mainstream media,the common perception is that“rags to riches”stories only consist of becoming“rich and famous”.This paper aims to reflect on the phenomenological experiences of 19 South Africans who significantly were able to move beyond their own significant low point experiences(imaginary:“rags”)into high point experiences(imaginary:“riches”).The presence of a meaningful experience indicates a turning point divide between low and *** the right positive psychological attributes supports the change required to move beyond your *** study explored the deeper internal psychological attributes within a person along with spiritual factors that could affect change in a person’s life to have an improved and fulfilling *** existential-phenomenological-humanistic approach,from a positive psychological theoretical viewpoint,was *** attributes were identified as themes through thematic *** study found that meaning was the most prevalent feature in all respondents’lives to indicate a turn away from,sometimes intense,negative *** presence of a positive mind-set(including positive attitude,self-thought,and self-talk)played a dominant role in affecting change,while the presence of faith and religious belief indicated the spiritual factors associated with change.

Multimodal imaging in acute retinal ischemia: spectral domain OCT, OCT-angiography and fundus autofluorescence

AIM： To describe retinal findings of various imaging modalities in acute retinal ischemia. METHODS： Fluorescein angiography（FA）, spectral domain optical coherence tomography（SD-OCT）, OCTangiography（OCT-A） and fundus autofluorescence（FAF） images of 13 patients（mean age 64y, range 28-86y） with acute retinal ischemia were evaluated. Six suffered from branch arterial occlusion, 2 had a central retinal artery occlusion, 2 had a combined arteriovenous occlusions, 1 patient had a retrobulbar arterial compression by an orbital haemangioma and 2 patients showed an ocular ischemic ***： All patients showed increased reflectivity and thickening of the ischemic retinal tissue. In 10 out of 13 patients SD-OCT revealed an additional highly reflective band located within or above the outer plexiform layer. Morphological characteristics were a decreasing intensity with distance from the fovea, partially segmental occurrence and manifestation limited in time. OCT-A showed a loss of flow signal in the superficial and deep capillary plexus at the affected areas. Reduced flow signal was detected underneath the regions with retinal edema. FAF showed areas of altered signal intensity at the posterior pole. The regions of decreased FAF signal corresponded to peri-venous regions. CONCLUSION： Multimodal imaging modalities in retinal ischemia yield characteristic findings and valuable diagnostic information. Conventional OCT identifies hyperreflectivity and thickening and a mid-retinal hyperreflective band is frequently observed. OCT-A examination reveals demarcation of the ischemic retinal area on the vascular level. FAF shows decreased fluorescence signal in areas of retinal edema often corresponding to peri-venous regions.

The distance from an approaching threat at which animals initiate flight - flight-initiation distance （FID） -- is a sensitive metric of variation in risk, but the effects on FID associated with the risk of possessing highly detectable external coloration are unknown. We tested whether variation in the degree of plumage vividness in birds explained variation in flight-initiation distance. After controlling for body mass, the distance at which the experimental approach began, and phylogenetic relatedness, plumage vividness was not a predictor of FID. Contrary to the expectation that vividness affects risk, and therefore risk assess- ment, these results suggest that birds do not compensate for greater visual conspicuousness by fleeing sooner from approaching threats [Current Zoology 61 （4）： 773-780, 2015].

Organic practices and gender are effective strategies to provide healthy pork loin

This study evaluated the influence of husbandry（organic feed and management but not free-ranging vs. conventional） and sex（barrows vs. gilts） on pork meat quality. A total of 60 Longissimus thoracis pork muscle samples from different 3-way crossbred genotypes were chosen from 3 conventional and 2 organic pig farms. Technological meat quality was measured at 24 h post-mortem and muscle fatty acid content and composition was analysed by gas chromatography. The loin from organic pigs at 24 h of retail display had lower pH, but it had no detrimental effects on drip loss. All the International Commission on Illumination colour attributes except meat lightness differed between husbandry systems. Moisture and crude protein content were lower whereas intramuscular fat content was greater in organic than in conventional pork. Total saturated fatty acid（SFA）, monounsaturated fatty acid（MUFA）, polyunsaturated fatty acid（pUFA） and pUFA n-6 contents did not differ between husbandry systems, but total pUFA n-3（mainly C18：3 n-3） were greater in organic than in conventional pork. Sex did not affect ultimate p H or meat colour attributes but barrows showed lower moisture and greater intramuscular fat than gilts. Total SFA and MUFA content were similar but all the pUFA（both n-6 and n-3） were lower in barrows than in gilts. These results suggest that some bioactive compounds from dietary origin, i.e., linolenic acid（C18：3 n-3） content from dietary vegetable oils（soybean or olive olein）, might be used to highlight the nutritive value of（not free-ranging） organic pork meat. In addition, gilts were leaner than barrows and showed a more favourable pUFA/SFA ratio.
