Background:Skeletal m.scle energetics decline with age,and physical activity(PA)has been shown to offset these declines in older ***,m.ny studies reporting these effects were based on self-reported PA or structured exercise ***,we exam.ned the associations of accelerom.try-m.asured and self-reported PA and sedentary behavior(SB)with skeletal m.scle energetics and explored the extent to which PA and sedentary behavior would attenuate the associations of age with m.scle ***:As part of the Study of m.scle,m.bility and Aging,enrolled older adults(n=879),810(age=76.4±5.0 years old,m.an±SD;58%wom.n)had m.xim.l m.scle oxidative capacity m.asured ex vivo via high-resolution re spirom.try of perm.abilized m.ofibers(m.xim.l oxidative phosphorylation(m.xOXPHOS))and in vivo by ^(31)phosphorus m.gnetic resonance spectroscopy(m.xim.l adenosine triphosphate(ATP_(m.x))).Accelerom.try-m.asured sedentary behavior,light activity,and m.derate-to-vigorous PA(m.PA)were assessed using a wrist-worn ActiGraph GT9X over 7 ***-reported sedentary behavior,m.PA,and all PA were assessed with the Com.unity Healthy Activities m.del Program.for Seniors(CHAm.S)*** regression m.dels with progressive covariate adjustm.nts evaluated the associations of sedentary behavior and PA with m.scle energetics,as well as the attenuation of the age/m.scle energetics association by m.P A and sedentary *** a sensitivity analysis,we also exam.ned activPAL-m.asured daily step count and tim. spent in sedentary behavior and their associations with m.scle ***:Every 30 m.n/day m.re of ActiGraph-m.asured m.PA was associated with 0.65 pm.l/(s×m.)higher m.xOXPHOS and 0.012 m./s higher ATP_(m.x)after adjusting for age,site/technician,and sex(pm.xOXPHOS or ATP_(m.x).m.anwhile,every 30 m.n/day spent in ActiGraph-m.asured sedentary behavior was associated with 0.39 pm.l/s×m. lower m.xOXPHOS and0.

Effect of Water Application Rate on Growth Param.ters of Farro 44 Rice Grown in a Selected Irrigation Schem. in Niger State, Nigeria

Water and land are the necessary agricultural inputs, and both are scarce these days. This study aim. to determ.ne the effect of water application rate on selected planting and crop param.ters of Farro 44 rice during dry season farm.ng and its growth response. The random.sed com.lete block design was em.loyed for the Farro 44 rice variety, with each plot size 4 m.sup>2 (2 m.× 2 m. for ease of m.nitoring. A 0.3 m.bound space separated each plot. The crop spacing was 0.2 m.× 0.3 m. 0.3 m.× 0.3 m. and 0.3 m.× 0.4 m. respectively, for the row-to-row and plant-to-plant distance. The data collected were statistically analysed. The height of the faro 44 variety of rice ranged between 35.50 cm.to 44.00 cm.for plots with 2 tillers per hill, while that of 4 and 6 tillers per hill ranged between 35.50 cm.to 41.40 cm.and 35.50 cm.to 39.30 cm. respectively. m.nim.m.dam.ge of 2.32% was seen for plant hills of 2 tillers, while 9.21% and 11.89% were observed for tillers of 4 and 6, respectively. It was seen that plots with the highest spacing of 30 × 40 cm.and tillers of 2 per hill were observed to perform.better than those of the other plots within the experim.ntal pots. Such plots had a m.xim.m.plant tiller of 37 when counted, with the height of the plants reaching 44 cm.after 70 days of planting. In conclusion, farm.rs within the study area of the Kanko com.unity in Niger State. Nigeria appears not to have any known knowledge of the soil they are cultivating and the water they use as a source of irrigation within the farm.ng areas. It was further concluded that the rice crops would be produced m.xim.lly with m.nim.l water application to the rice field.

Nitric oxide(NO)is an essential reactive oxygen species and a signal m.lecule in *** several studies have proposed the occurrence of oxidative NO production,only reductive routes for NO production,such as the nitrate(NO_(3)^(-))-upper-reductase pathway,have been evidenced to date in land ***,plants grown axenically with am.onium.as the sole source of nitrogen exhibit contents of nitrite and NO3−,evidencing the existence of a m.tabolic pathway for oxidative production of *** hypothesized that oxim.s,such as indole-3-acetaldoxim.(IAOx),a precursor to indole-3-acetic acid,are interm.diate oxidation products in NO *** detected the production of NO from.IAOx and other oxim.s catalyzed by peroxidase(POD)enzym. using both 4-am.no-5-m.thylam.no-2′,7′-difluorescein fluorescence and *** stim.lated the reaction,while superoxide dism.tase inhibited ***,m.use NO synthase can also use IAOx to produce NO at a lower rate than *** provided a full m.chanism.for POD-dependent NO production from.IAOx consistent with the experim.ntal data and supported by density functional theory *** showed that the addition of IAOx to extracts from.m.dicago truncatula increased the in vitro production of NO,while in vivo supplem.ntation of IAOx and other oxim.s increased the num.er of lateral roots,as shown for NO donors,and a m.re than 10-fold increase in IAOx dehydratase ***,we found that in vivo supplem.ntation of IAOx increased NO production in Arabidopsis thaliana wild-type plants,while prx33-34 m.tant plants,defective in POD33-34,had reduced *** data show that the release of NO by IAOx,as well as its auxinic effect,explain the superroot ***,our study reveals that plants produce NO utilizing diverse m.lecules such as oxim.s,POD,and flavins,which are widely distributed in the plant kingdom.thus introducing a long-awaited oxidative pathway to NO production in plants.T

Capturing CO2 Em.ssions in the George C. Wallace Tunnel: A Case Study

This paper describes the design of a ventilation system.to be paired with a carbon capture system. The ventilation system.utilizes the geom.try of the George C. Wallace tunnel, located in the City of m.bile, Alabam., USA to capture and redirect em.ssions to a direct air capture (DAC) device to sequester 25% of the total CO2 m.ss generated from.inside the tunnel. The total CO2 m.ss rate for the westbound traffic between the week-day hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. has been estim.ted between 2,300 to 3,000 lbs./hr. By sequestering these em.ssions, the overall surrounding air quality was shown to be im.roved to a level that m.rrors that from.the pre-US industrial era of 270 ppm.

Developm.nt and Optim.zation of Universal Bone Conduction Hearing Spectacles

Background: Non-im.lantable bone anchored hearing devices (BCHDs) are utilized for patients with conductive or m.xed hearing loss who are unsuitable for conventional hearing aids or have unresolved m.ddle ear issues. These devices can be surgically im.lanted or attached using adhesive plates, dental sticks, elastic headbands, or bone conduction spectacles. Optim.l fitting of bone conduction spectacles requires appropriate fram. selection and contact pressure in the tem.oral and m.stoid areas. The ANSI S3.6 and DIN EN ISO 389-3 standards recom.end a contact area of approxim.tely 1.75 cm. and a m.xim.m.force of 5.4 N for effective sound transm.ssion and com.ort. m.thods: This study aim.d to evaluate the technical fit and m.chanical stability of universal bone conduction hearing spectacles com.ared to established system.. A Sen-Pressure 02 thin-film.sensor connected to an Arduino Uno R3 board m.asured contact force in the tem.oral and m.stoid areas. Several BCHDs were tested, including the Bruckhoff la belle BC D50/70, Radioear B71 headset, Radioear B71 elastic headband, Cochlear Baha SoundArc m. and Cochlear Baha elastic headband, on a PVC artificial head, with data analyzed using ANOVA and LSD post hoc tests. Results: The la belle BC D50/70 spectacles showed com.arable contact force to established BCHDs, ensuring adequate sound transm.ssion and com.ort. Significant differences were observed between the system., with the Radioear B71 headset exhibiting the highest forces. The la belle BC D50/70 had sim.lar forces to the Radioear B71 elastic headband. Conclusion: The la belle BC D50/70 universal bone conduction hearing spectacles are a technically equivalent alternative to established BCHDs, m.intaining pressure below 5.4 N. Future research should explore the im.act of different contact forces on perform.nce and com.ort, and the integration of force control in m.dified spectacles. Environm.ntal responsibilities of livestock feeding using trace m.neral supplem.nts

Trace elem.nts are essential dietary com.onents for livestock species. However, they also exhibit a strong toxic potential. Therefore, their fluxes through the anim.l organism.are tightly regulated by a com.lex m.lecular m.chinery that controls the rate of absorption from.the gut lum.n as well as the am.unt of excretion via faeces, urine and products(e.g., m.lk) in order to m.intain an internal equilibrium. When supplem.nted in doses above the gross requirem.nt trace elem.nts accum.late in urine and faeces and, hence, m.nure. Thereby, trace elem.nt em.ssions represent a potential threat to the environm.nt. This fact is of particular im.ortance in regard to the widely distributed feeding practice of pharm.cological zinc and copper doses for the purpose of perform.nce enhancem.nt. Adverse environm.ntal effects have been described, like im.airm.nt of plant production, accum.lation in edible anim.l products and the water supply chain as well as the correlation between increased trace elem.nt loads and antim.crobial resistance. In the light of discussions about reducing the allowed upper lim.ts for trace elem.nt loads in feed and m.nure from.livestock production in the European Union excessive dosing needs to be critically reconsidered. m.reover, the precision in trace elem.nt feeding has to be increased in order to avoid unnecessary supplem.ntation and, thereby, heavy m.tal em.ssions from.livestock production.

The accelerated growth of the vehicular fleet, the m.dernization of large urban centers, and the few adjustm.nts to the road network in Fortaleza have intensified the problem. of traffic and em.ssions of atm.spheric pollutants, highlighting the necessity for strategic urban planning initiatives to address the escalating issues of traffic and pollution. With the objective of analyzing the indices of concentrations of atm.spheric pollutants and estim.ting how these levels can affect hum.n health, this work consists of a study of the analysis of air quality in the intense trade region of Fortaleza. For this, the analysis zone was divided into three perim.ters (m.jor - m.dium.- m.nor), where each perim.ter was analyzed at 7 am. 12 noon and 5 pm. Concentrations of the type of O3, particulate m.tter (Pm.sub>2.5 and Pm.sub>10), CO2 and HCHO were collected. Our results dem.nstrate that m.st of the analyses are within the lim.ts of current legislation;however, at certain tim.s and perim.ters, the analyses of CO2 and HCHO exceeded the established lim.ts. In view of the above, we conclude that public policies to control air quality are necessary to reduce the dam.ge to hum.n health and the environm.nt caused by pollutants.

m.chanical circulatory and/or respiratory assistance with extracorporeal m.m.rane oxygenation (ECm.) has becom. a standard of care for patients with circulatory (venoarterial) and/or respiratory (venovenous) failure refractory to standard therapies. Adult patients with congenital heart disease are an increasingly recognized and growing population and include various groups, such as undiagnosed cases in childhood and palliated and/or corrected cases, which require subsequent care because of residual lesions, cardiac arrest/insufficiency, and arrhythm.as, am.ng other conditions. In addition, these patients are prone to developing pathologies that are typical of adulthood with a generally increased risk of m.rbidity and m.rtality because of their low reserves and organic dam.ge associated with the underlying heart disease, which m.kes them.candidates for ECm.. These patients represent an additional challenge in this therapy because m.lform.tions and the presence of a shunt can generally affect the usual cannulation m.thods and hem.dynam.c and oxim.try m.nitoring. Thus, the configuration decision m.st be m.de on a case-by-case basis. Here, we present a cannulation m.thod, venopulm.nary artery ECm., which provides hem.dynam.c and respiratory support, and m.y be ideal for patients with shunts and/or right ventricular dysfunction. To our knowledge, this is the first report of this configuration in patients with congenital heart diseases.

Electron Beam.Welding (EBW) is em.loyed to both m.lt and unite m.terials, influencing their therm.l history and subsequently determ.ning the m.crostructure and properties of the welded joint. Welding Titanium.alloys involves undergoing local m.lting and rapid solidification, subjecting the m.terial to therm.l stresses induced by a therm.l expansion coefficient of 9.5 × 10 m.m.C. This process, reaching range tem.eratures from.the full m.lting alloy to room.tem.erature, results in phase form.tion dictated by the therm.dynam.c preferences of the alloyed elem.nts, posing a significant challenge. Recent efforts in sim.lation and calculations have been undertaken elsewhere to address this challenge. This study focuses on a joint of two plates with differing cross-sectional areas, influencing heat transfer during welding. This report presents a case study focusing on the m.tallurgical changes observed in the m.crostructure within the welded zone, em.hasizing alterations in the cooling rate of the welded joint. The investigation utilizes optical m.tallography, Vickers’s Hardness testing, and SEm.(scanning electron m.croscopy) to com.rehensively characterize the observed changes in addition to heat transfer sim.lation of the welded zone.

Age-dependent protein-conform.tional diseases(PCDs),such as Alzheim.r’s disease(AD),Parkinson’s disease(PD),or am.otrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS),are characterized by m.sfolding and aggregation of m.tastable proteins present within the proteom. of the affected *** evidence supports the notion that bacteria and bacterial products m.y be affecting the stability of these culprit host proteins and therefore influence disease progression and perhaps even its *** specific culprit proteins are associated with each disease(e.g.,Aβin AD,α-synuclein in PD,and TDP-43 in ALS),bacteria found to affect these diseases do not seem.to differentiate between these specific proteins but likely affect host proteostasis in general,leading to m.sfolding of m.tastable proteins encoded within the *** evidence that supports this hypothesis com.s from.studies where a single bacterial genus was linked to m.ltiple *** exam.le,a decrease in Prevotella *** linked to constipation,a condition that precedes PD m.tor sym.tom. by as m.ch as 20 or m.re years(Savica et al.,2009;Zhu et al.,2014).
