Using tickler chains to promote more environmentally benign trawls in an Australian penaeid fishery

There has been an increasing emphasis on reducing the environmental impacts of penaeid trawls by modifying their anterior *** one Australian estuary,this approach has culminated in a new generic trawl comprising a slightly smaller mesh size,and steeper and shorter side panels than traditional trawls,combined with a top panel extending forwards of the bottom panel(termed‘lead-ahead’)and no headline *** study sought to investigate if an additional simple,cumulative modification(tickler chain)might help promote adoption of the new trawl,via improved penaeid *** volunteer fishers towing pairs of either the traditional or new trawls in double rigs were asked if an observer could accompany fishing trips,and alternately attach a light tickler chain(~3 kg)anterior to the ground gear of one *** of the trawl design,the tickler chains significantly increased the catch weights of penaeids,but relatively more so in the new trawls(by 1.11×vs 1.08×).The tickler chains also significantly increased the number and weight of total bycatch in the traditional trawls(by up to 1.22×),but not in the new trawls-although there were variable species-specific *** terms of total effects,the data support using tickler chains to increase the efficiency of the new trawls and their cumulative benefits,and could be promoted to facilitate broader inter-and intra-fleet adoption.

In this paper, Grain-like cascade feedback shift registers(FSRs) are regarded as two Boolean networks(BNs), and the semi-tensor product(STP) of the matrices is used to convert the Grain-like cascade FSRs into an equivalent linear equation. Based on the STP, a novel method is proposed herein to investigate the nonsingularity of Grain-like cascade FSRs. First, we investigate the property of the state transition matrix of Grain-like cascade FSRs. We then propose their sufficient and necessary nonsingularity condition. Next,we regard the Grain-like cascade FSRs as Boolean control networks(BCNs) and further provide a sufficient condition of their nonsingularity. Finally, two examples are provided to illustrate the results obtained in this paper.

A laboratory fluidized bed reactor was used to investigate the fluidization behavior and reducibility of various iron ore *** was chosen as a reducing agent across a temperature range of 873-1073 *** magnetite ore used exhibited strong sticking behavior after the initiation of metallic iron *** other tested ores fluidized sufficiently well when subjected to the same high reduction *** kinetic analysis was conducted using a previously developed model to include three rate-limiting step *** trend of apparent activation energy was correlated with the degree of ***,the influence of varying the specific gas rate was *** results show the variation in reducibility as a result of different interactions,which influence the rate-limiting mechanisms of nucleation and the undertaken chemical reactions,which vary as a function of temperature and degree of *** apparent activation energies,determined from the reduction of wtistite to metallic iron,were in the range of 15-60 kj/mol,depending on the iron ore used and the degree of *** change in apparent activation energy deriving from the increased specific gas rate can be explained by an increasing nucleation effect,especially at lower reduction temperatures.

Background:Public health guidelines have called for innovative and flexible physical activity(PA)intervention strategies to promote PA and health amid the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)***,this study’s purpose was to examine the effects of a home-based,YouTube-delivered PA intervention grounded in self-determination theory on young adults’free-living PA,sedentary behavior,and sleep quality(NCT04499547).Methods:Sixty-four young adults(48 females;age=22.8±3.4 years,mean±SD;body mass index=23.1±2.6 kg/m^(2))were randomized(1:1)into the intervention group,which received weekly aerobic and muscle-strengthening PA videos,or control group,which received weekly general health education videos,for 12 *** primary outcome was free-living moderate-to-vigorous PA(MVPA)and our secondary outcomes were sedentary behavior,light PA,and sleep quality(measured using ActiGraph accelerometers)along with muscle-strengthening PA frequency,self-determination theory-related motivation(non-regulation,external regulation,introjected regulation,identified regulation,integrated regulation,and intrinsic regulation),and perceived PA barriers(assessed using validated questionnaires).Repeated measures analysis of variances(ANOVAs)examined between-group differences at an adjusted significance level of 0.004 and effect sizes as partial eta-squared(η;).Results:We observed statistically significant interaction effects for MVPA,sleep efficiency,muscle-strengthening PA frequency,non-regulation,integrated regulation,intrinsic regulation,and perceived PA barriers(F(1,62)=10.75-77.67,pjected,and identified regulations after 12 weeks(F(1,62)=1.11-3.64,p=0.06-0.61).Conclusion:With national COVID-19 restrictions still in place and uncertainty regarding post-pandemic PA envir

The reduction in noble metal content for efficient oxygen evolution catalysis is a crucial aspect towards the large scale commercialisation of polymer electrolyte membrane *** catalytic stability and activity are inversely related,long service lifetime still demands large amounts of low-abundant and expensive *** this manuscript we elaborate on the concept of maximizing the utilisation of iridium for the oxygen evolution *** combining different tin oxide based support materials with liquid atomic layer deposition of iridium oxide,new possibilities are opened up to grow thin layers of iridium oxide with tuneable noble metal ***-situ,time-and potential-resolved dissolution experiments reveal how the stability of the substrate and the catalyst layer thickness directly affect the activity and stability of deposited iridium *** on our results,we elaborate on strategies how to obtain stable and active catalysts with maximized iridium utilisation for the oxygen evolution reaction and demonstrate how the activity and durability can be tailored *** results highlight the potential of utilizing thin noble metal films with earth abundant *** for future catalytic applications in the energy sector.

AIM： To investigate the possible involvement of 25-hydroxyvitamin D3-1cx-hydroxylase [1α-25（OH）2D3] in butyrate-induced differentiation in human intestinal cell line Caco-2 cells. METHODS： Caco-2 cells were incubated either with 3 mmol/L butyrate and 1 umol/L 25（OH）2D3 or with 1 umol/L 1α-25（OH）2D3 for various time intervals ranging from 0 to 72 h. Additionally, cells were co-incubated with butyrate and either 25（OH）2D3 or 1α-25（OH）2D3. 1α-25（OH）2D3 mRNA was determined semi-quantitatively using the fluorescent dye PicoGreen. Immunoblotting was used for the detection of 1α-25（OH）2D3 protein. Finally, enzymatic activity was measured by ELISA. RESULTS： Both butyrate and 1α-25（OH）2D3 stimulated differentiation of Caco-2 cells after a 48 h incubation period, while 25（OH）2D3 had no impact on cell differentiation. Synergistic effects on differentiation were observed when cells were co-incubated with butyrate and vitamin D metabolite. Butyrate transiently upregulated 1α-25（OH）2D3 mRNA followed by a timely delayed protein upregulation. Coincidently, enzymatic activity was enhanced significantly. The induction of the enzyme allowed for comparable differentiating effects of both vitamin D metabolites. CONCLUSION： Our experimental data provide a further mechanism for the involvement of the vitamin D signaling pathway in colonic epithelial cell differentiation by butyrate. The enhancement of 1α-25（OH）2D3 followed by antiproliferative effects of the vitamin D prohormone in the Caco-2 cell line suggest that 25（OH）2D3 in combination with butyrate may offer a new therapeutic approach forthe treatment of colon cancer.
