Establishing a mathematical supply-chain model is a proposition that has received attention due to its inherent benefits of evolving global supply-chain *** paper discusses the prevailing relationships found within apparel supply-chain environments,and contemplates the complex issues indicated for constituting a mathematical *** results identified within the data suggest,that the multifarious nature of global supply-chain activities require a degree of simplification in order to fully dilate the necessary factors which affect,each subsection of the ***,the research findings allowed the division of supply-chain components into subsections,which amassed a coherent method of product development ***,the supply-chain model was found to allow systematic mathematical formulae analysis,of cost and time,within the multiple contexts of each subsection *** paper indicates the supplychain model structure,the mathematics,and considers how product analysis of cost and time can improve the comprehension of product lifecycle management.

By prohibiting fishing, marine protected areas （MPAs） provide a refuge for harvested species. Humans are often perceived as predators by prey and therefore respond fearfully to humans. Thus, fish responses to humans inside and outside of an MPA can provide insights into their perception of humans as a predatory threat. Previous studies have found differences in the distance that har- vested species of fish initiate flight （flight initiation distance--FID） from humans inside and outside an MPA, but less is known about unharvested species. We focused on whether the lined bristle- tooth Ctenochaetus striatus, an unharvested surgeonfish, can discriminate between a snorkeler and a snorkeler with a spear gun inside and outside of a no-take MPA in Mo＇orea, French Polynesia. Additionally, we incorporated starting distance （the distance between the person and prey at the start of an experimental approach）, a variable that has been found to be important in as- sessing prey escape decisions in terrestrial species, but that has not been extensively studied in aquatic systems. Lined bristletooth FID was significantly greater in the presence of a spear gun and varied depending on if the spear gun encounter was inside or outside of the MPA. These results imply a degree of sophistication of fish antipredator behavior, generate questions as to how a non- targeted species of fish could acquire fear of humans, and demonstrate that behavioral surveys can provide insights about antipredator behavior.

Formation and removal of active oxygen species for the non-catalytic CO oxidation on Au/TiO_2 catalysts

Applying quantitative temporal analysis of products reactor measurements, we studied the reactive removal of active oxygen present on Au/TiO2 catalysts after calcination at elevated temperatures （400 ＆#176;C） by CO pulses and its replenishment by O2 pulses at 80 ＆#176;C, focusing on the nature of the active oxygen species. In contrast to previous studies, which mainly focused on and clarified the nature of the active oxygen species for the catalytic CO oxidation, which is reversibly formed and replenished under typical reaction conditions, this study demonstrates that directly after calcina‐tion an additional oxygen species is present. This species is also active for the CO oxidation, but it is not or only very little formed under typical reaction conditions. Implications of these results on the mechanistic understanding of the CO oxidation on Au/TiO2, in particular on the role of different active oxygen species, will be discussed.

Previous studies have shown that individuals responded preferentially to the mark of the top-scent donor relative to that of the bottom-scent donor of an over-mark. However, terrestrial mammals are likely to encounter over-marks consisting of the scent marks of more than two same-sex conspecifics in the intersections of runways, near the nests of sexually receptive female conspecifics, and inside and along the borders of the territories of conspecifics. We determined how meadow voles, Microtus pennsylvanicus, respond to the marks of the top-, middle-, and bottom-scent donors of an over-mark. We tested the hypothesis that voles exposed to an over-mark will respond preferentially to the scent marks that were deposited more recently, the scent marks that were on top or near the top of the over-mark, compared to the scent marks that were deposited earlier or near the bot- tom of the over-mark. Voles spent more time investigating the mark of the top-scent donor than that of the either the middle- or bottom-scent donor. However, males but not female voles spent more time investigating the middle-scent mark than the bot- tom-scent mark. We also tested the hypothesis that voles evaluate and respond to over-marks differently from single scent marks. Voles spent more time investigating the marks of the top-, middle-, and bottom-scent donors compared to scent marks that were not part of the over-mark. Voles can distinguish among the overlapping scent marks of three scent donors and sex differences exist in the values they appear to attach to each of these scent marks [Current Zoology 57 （4）： 441-448, 2011 ].

Lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs)are considered as the next generation of advanced rechargeable batteries because of their high energy *** this study,sulfur and CoxS electrocatalyst are deposited on carbon nanotube buckypaper(S/CoxS/BP)by a facile electrodeposition method and are used as a binder-free high-performance cathode for *** sulfur is deposited on buckypaper by electrooxidation of a polysulfide solution(-S6^2-).This approach substantially increased the current and time efficiency of sulfur electrochemical deposition on conductive material for LSBs.S/CoxS/BP cathode could deliver an initial discharge capacity as high as 1650 mAh g^-1 at 0.1 C,which is close to the theoretical capacity of *** current rate of 0.5 C,the S/CoxS/BP has a capacity of 1420 mAh g^-1 at the first cycle and 715 mAh g^-1 after 500 cycles with a fading rate of 0.099%per *** high capacity of S/CoxS/BP is attributed to both the homogeneous dispersion of nanosized sulfur within BP and the presence of CoxS *** sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)pretreatment of BP renders it polarity to bind polysulfides and thus facilitates the good dispersibility of nanosized sulfur within *** catalyst accelerates the kinetics of polysulfide conversion and reduces the presence of polysulfide in the cathode,which suppresses the polysulfide diffusion to anode,i.e.,the shuttle *** mitigation of the active material loss improves not only the capacity but also the cyclability of S/CoxS/BP.

Acoustic interference can impede effective communication that is important for survival and reproduction of animals. In response to acoustic interference, some animals can improve signalling efficacy by altering the structure of their signals. In this study, we played artificial noise to 46 male spring peepers Pseudacris crucifer, on their breeding grounds, and tested whether the noise affected the duration, call rate, and peak frequency of their advertisement calls. We used two experimental noise treatments that masked either the high- or low-frequency components of an average advertisement call; this allowed us to evaluate whether frogs adaptively shift the peak frequency of their calls away from both types of interference. Our playback treatments caused spring peepers to produce shorter calls, and the high-frequency noise treatment caused them to lower the frequency of their calls immediately after the noise ceased. Call rate did not change in response to playback. Consistent with previous studies, ambient temperature was inversely related to call duration and positively related to call rate. We conclude that noise affects the structure of spring peeper advertisement calls, and that spring peepers therefore have a mechanism for altering signal structure in response to noise. Future studies should test if other types of noise, such as biotic or anthropogenic noise, have similar effects on call structure, and if the observed changes to call structure enhance or impair communication in noisy environments [Current Zoology 60 （4）： 438-448, 2014].
