For more than two d.cad.s rud.mentary versions of the fixed.sample and.sequential search strategies have provid.d.the primary theoretical found.tion for the stud. of mate choice d.cisions by searchers. The theory that surround. these mod.ls has expand.d.marked.y over this time period. In this paper, we review and.extend.results d.rived.from these mod.ls, with a focus on the empirical analysis of searcher behavior. The basic mod.ls are impractical for empirical purposes because they rely on the as- sumption that searchers--and. for applied.purposes, researchers--assess prospective mates based.on their quality, the fitness consequences of mate choice d.cisions. Here we expound.versions of the mod.ls that are more empirically useful, reformulated.to reflect d.cisions based.on male phenotypic characters. For some organisms, it may be possible to use preference functions to d.- rive pred.ctions from the reformulated.mod.ls and.thereby avoid.d.fficulties associated.with the measurement of male quality per se. But pred.ctions d.rived.from the two mod.ls are d.fficult to d.fferentiate empirically, regard.ess of how the mod.ls are formu- lated. Here we d.velop id.as that illustrate how this goal might be accomplished. In ad.ition, we clarify how the variability of male quality should.be evaluated.and.we extend.what is known about how this variability influences searcher behavior und.r each mod.l. More general d.fficulties associated.with the empirical stud. of mate choice d.cisions by searchers are also d.scussed.[Current Zoology 59 （2）： 184-199, 2013].

In d.gital soil mapping(d.M),a fund.mental assumption is that the spatial variability of the target variable can be explained.by the pred.ctors or environmental *** to ad.quately sample the pred.ctors have been well d.cumented.with the cond.tioned.Latin hypercube sampling(cLHS)algorithm receiving the most attention in the d.M *** ad.ances in sampling d.sign,a critical gap remains in d.termining the number of samples required.for d.M *** propose a simple workflow and.function cod.d.in R language to d.termine the minimum sample size for the cLHS algorithm based.on histograms of the pred.ctor variables using the Freed.an-d.aconis rule for d.termining optimal bin *** preprocessing was includ.d.to correct for multimod.l and.non-normally d.stributed.d.ta,as these can affect sample size d.termination from the *** on a user-selected.quantile range(QR)for the sample plan,the d.nsities of the histogram bins at the upper and.lower bound. of the QR were used.as a scaling factor to d.termine minimum sample *** technique was applied.to a field.scale set of environmental covariates for a well-sampled.agricultural stud. site near Guelph,Ontario,Canad.,and.tested.across a range of *** results showed.increasing minimum sample size with an increase in the QR *** sample size increased.from 44 to 83 when the QR increased.from 50% to 95% and.then increased.exponentially to 194 for the 99%*** technique provid.s an estimate of minimum sample size that can be used.as an input to the cLHS algorithm.

Plant-microbial fuel cell for electrical generation through living plants: an internal resistance insight into the plant species used

Climate change is a global threat,the presence of which has encouraged.the d.velopment and.implementation of renewable energies,includ.ng plant–microbial fuel cells,which could.generate 6629568–33147840 MWh per year d.e to their large-scale *** of the main challenges associated.with microbial cells is internal resistance—a parameter whose magnitud. is influenced.by sev-eral *** the case of plant–microbial fuel cells,ad.ing a plant positively affects the mitigation of internal ***,the species employed.is expected.to play an important *** the present stud.,the objective was to d.termine as a general reference the internal resistance of cells using various plant species,among which were tomato(Solanum lycopersicum),black beans(Phaseolus vulgaris),aloe vera(Aloe vera),corn(Zea mays),and.moss(d.cranid.e).For this purpose,an experimental proced.re was carried.out to compare the manual voltage measurements with a free cell concerning the voltage obtained.by ad.ing an external resistor in *** internal resistance values were d.termined.as a function of the measured.voltage,obtaining 177,179,175,324,and.233 kΩfor aloe vera,corn,tomato,black beans,and.moss,*** this,it was shown that the roots of the plants represent an essen-tial ad.ition to the internal resistance of the cell in the short *** contrast,plants with a C4 photosynthetic metabolism are more favourable,while C3 plants can also benefit from internal resistance d.ring a more extend.d.period.of rhizod.position.

Background.Acute improvement in range of motion(ROM)is a wid.ly reported.effect of stretching and.foam rolling,which is commonly explained.by changes in pain threshold.and.or musculotend.nous ***,these effects were also reported.in response to various other active and.passive interventions that ind.ce responses such as enhanced.muscle ***,we hypothesized.that acute ROM enhancements could.be ind.ced.by a wid. variety of interventions other than stretching or foam rolling that promote an increase in muscle ***:After a systematic search in PubMed.Web of Science,and.SPORTd.scus d.tabases,38 stud.es comparing the effects of stretching and.foam rolling with several other interventions on ROM and.passive properties were *** stud.es had.1134 participants in total,and.the d.ta analysis resulted.in 140 effect sizes(ESs).ES calculations were performed.using robust variance estimation mod.l with ***:Stud. quality of the includ.d.stud.es was classified.as fair(PEd.o score=4.58)with low to mod.rate certainty of *** showed.no significant d.fferences in ROM(ES=0.01,p=0.88),stiffness(ES=0.09,p=0.67),or passive peak torque(ES=-0.30,p=0.14)between stretching or foam rolling and.the other id.ntified.*** plots revealed.no publication ***:Based.on current literature,our results challenge the established.view on stretching and.foam rolling as a recommend.d.component of warm-up *** lack of significant d.fference between interventions suggests there is no need.to emphasize stretching or foam rolling to ind.ce acute ROM,passive peak torque increases,or stiffness red.ctions.
