Inflammatory bowel disease serology in Asia and the West

AIM:To study serological antibodies in caucasians and Asians,in health and inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),in Australia and Hong Kong(HK).METHODS:Anti-glycan antibodies[anti-chitobioside(AccA),anti-laminaribioside(ALcA)],and anti-mannobioside(AMcA),anti-Saccharomyces cervisiae(gAScA);and atypical perinuclear anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody(pANcA)were tested in IBD patients,their unaffected relatives,and healthy controls in Australia and HK(china).Antibody status(positive or negative)and titre was compared between subjects of different geography,ethnicity and disease ***:Ninety subjects were evaluated:21 crohn’s disease(cD),32 ulcerative colitis(Uc),29 healthy controls,and 8 IBD patient *** eight subjects were Australian(29 caucasian and 19 ethnic Han chinese)and 42 were from HK(all Han chinese).caucasian cD patients had a significantly higher antibody prevalence of gAScA(67%vs 3%,PcA(44%vs 6%,P=0.005),and AMcA(67%vs 15%,P=0.002),whereas HK cD patients had a higher prevalence of only AMcA(58%vs 25%,P=0.035),when compared with Uc and healthy subjects in both *** cD had significantly higher gAScA prevalence(67%vs 0%,PcD *** and titres of ALcA,AccA and AMcA did not differ between cD in the two *** of at least one antibody was higher in caucasian than HK cD patients(100%vs 58%,P=0.045).pANcA did not differ between countries or ***:Serologic cD responses differ between HK Asian and Australian caucasian *** genetic,environmental or disease pathogenic factors may account for these differences.

p-capitulation over Number Fields with p-class Rank Two

Theoretical foundations of a new algorithm for determining the p-capitulation type ù(K) of a number field K with p-class rank ?=2 are presented. Since ù(K) alone is insufficient for identifying the second p-class group G=Gal(Fp2K∣K) of K, complementary techniques are deve- loped for finding the nilpotency class and coclass of . An implementation of the complete algorithm in the computational algebra system Magma is employed for calculating the Artin pattern AP(K)=(τ (K),ù(K)) of all 34631 real quadratic fields K=Q(√d) with discriminants 0d8 and 3-class group of type (3, 3). The results admit extensive statistics of the second 3-class groups G=Gal(F32K∣K) and the 3-class field tower groups G=Gal(F3∞K∣K).

Artin Transfer Patterns on Descendant Trees of Finite p-Groups

Based on a thorough theory of the Artin transfer homomorphism from a group G to the abelianization of a subgroup of finite index , and its connection with the permutation representation and the monomial representation of G, the Artin pattern , which consists of families , resp. , of transfer targets, resp. transfer kernels, is defined for the vertices of any descendant tree T of finite p-groups. It is endowed with partial order relations and , which are compatible with the parent-descendant relation of the edges of the tree T. The partial order enables termination criteria for the p-group generation algorithm which can be used for searching and identifying a finite p-group G, whose Artin pattern is known completely or at least partially, by constructing the descendant tree with the abelianization of G as its root. An appendix summarizes details concerning induced homomorphisms between quotient groups, which play a crucial role in establishing the natural partial order on Artin patterns and explaining the stabilization, resp. polarization, of their components in descendant trees T of finite p-groups.

Impact of vasculature damage on the outcome of spinal cord injury:a novel collagenase-induced model may give new insights into the mechanisms involved

The deleterious effect of vasculature damage on the outcome of spinal cord injury has long been recognized, and numerous clinical studies have shown that the presence of hemorrhage into the spinal cord is directly associated with a poorer neurological outcome. Vascular damage leads to de- creased blood flow to the cord and the release of potentially toxic blood-borne components. Here we consider the mechanisms that may be contributing to hemorrhage-induced damage and discuss the utility of a new model of spinal cord hemorrhage, which was urgently required as most of our current understanding has been extrapolated from intracerebral hemorrhage studies.

Organic practices and gender are effective strategies to provide healthy pork loin

This study evaluated the influence of husbandry（organic feed and management but not free-ranging vs. conventional） and sex（barrows vs. gilts） on pork meat quality. A total of 60 Longissimus thoracis pork muscle samples from different 3-way crossbred genotypes were chosen from 3 conventional and 2 organic pig farms. Technological meat quality was measured at 24 h post-mortem and muscle fatty acid content and composition was analysed by gas chromatography. The loin from organic pigs at 24 h of retail display had lower pH, but it had no detrimental effects on drip loss. All the International commission on Illumination colour attributes except meat lightness differed between husbandry systems. Moisture and crude protein content were lower whereas intramuscular fat content was greater in organic than in conventional pork. Total saturated fatty acid（SFA）, monounsaturated fatty acid（MUFA）, polyunsaturated fatty acid（PUFA） and PUFA n-6 contents did not differ between husbandry systems, but total PUFA n-3（mainly c18：3 n-3） were greater in organic than in conventional pork. Sex did not affect ultimate p H or meat colour attributes but barrows showed lower moisture and greater intramuscular fat than gilts. Total SFA and MUFA content were similar but all the PUFA（both n-6 and n-3） were lower in barrows than in gilts. These results suggest that some bioactive compounds from dietary origin, i.e., linolenic acid（c18：3 n-3） content from dietary vegetable oils（soybean or olive olein）, might be used to highlight the nutritive value of（not free-ranging） organic pork meat. In addition, gilts were leaner than barrows and showed a more favourable PUFA/SFA ratio.

Residual feed intake in beef cattle and its association with carcass traits, ruminal solid-fraction bacteria, and epithelium gene expression

Background: Residual feed intake(RFI) describes an animal’s feed efficiency independent of growth *** objective of this study was to determine differences in growth performance, carcass traits, major bacteria attached to ruminal solids-fraction, and ruminal epithelium gene expression between the most-efficient and the least-efficient beef cattle. One-hundred and forty-nine Red Angus cattle were allocated to three contemporary groups according to sex and herd origin. Animals were fed a finishing diet in confinement for 70 d to determine the RFI category for each. Within each group, the two most-efficient(n = 6; RFI coefficient =-2.69 ± 0.58 kg dry matter intake(DMI)/d) and the two least-efficient animals(n = 6; RFI coefficient = 3.08 ± 0.55 kg DMI/d) were selected. Immediately after slaughter, ruminal solids-fraction and ruminal epithelium were collected for bacteria relative abundance and epithelial gene expression analyses, respectively, using real-time ***: The most-efficient animals consumed less feed(P = 0.01; 5.03 kg less DMI/d) compared with the leastefficient animals. No differences(P > 0.10) in initial body weight(BW), final BW, and average daily gain(ADG) were observed between the two RFI classes. There were no significant RFI × sex effects(P > 0.10) on growth *** with the least-efficient group, hot carcass weight(HcW), ribeye area(REA), and kidney, pelvic, and heart fat(KPH) were greater(P ≤ 0.05) in the most-efficient cattle. No RFI × sex effect(P > 0.10) for carcass traits was detected between RFI groups. Of the 10 bacterial species evaluated, the most-efficient compared with least efficient cattle had greater(P ≤ 0.05) relative abundance of Eubacterium ruminantium, Fibrobacter succinogenes, and Megasphaera elsdenii, and lower(P ≤ 0.05) Succinimonas amylolytica and total bacterial density. 正常人的心脏节律源于右心房的天然起搏点(pacemaker)——窦房结。窦房结的功能异常或者房室传导阻滞会导致心率异常(如心律缓慢)。治疗严重的心动过缓需要植入在技术上已经相当成熟的电子起搏器,但这种治疗存在一些缺陷和不足。近年来,在动物实验模型中应用基因或细胞来重建心脏的生物起搏点已经取得了进展。超极化活化环核苷酸门控(hyperpolarization-activated cyclic-nucleotide-modulated,HcN)通道(起搏通道)通过超极化活化的阳离子电流(hyperpolarization-activated cation current,If)调制心脏的自律性。利用病毒载体或转染HcN基因的细胞将HcN基因导入动物心脏内可重建生物起搏点。也有导入其它基因或植入自律细胞来探索心脏起搏点的重建。本文总结了重建心脏生物起搏点的一些研究进展。一旦稳定性和寿命等关键问题得到相应解决,遗传工程改造的生物起搏点可用于治疗严重的心动过缓。
