BAcKGROUND colonic adenomatous polyposis of unknown etiology(cPUE)is an adenomatous polyposis phenotype that resembles Familial Adenomatous Polyposis(FAP)even though no germline pathogenic variant is *** We sought to better characterize the clinical features and outcomes in a cohort of cPUE *** This is a retrospective case series of patients 18 years old or older with adenomatous oligopolyposis(between 10-100 adenomas)and negative genetic testing,identified through the Hereditary Gastrointestinal cancer Database at Massachusetts General Hospital,a tertiary academic referral center.A retrospective chart review was performed with a focus on demographics,alcohol and tobacco use,medication use,familial malignancy and polyp burden,genetic testing information,endoscopic surveillance data including the corresponding histopathology,colonic and extracolonic malignancies,mortality events,and their *** correlation and Pearson chi-square test(or Fisher's exact test)were used for continuous and categorical variables *** cPUE patients were primarily male(69%)and presented for genetic counseling at 63.7 *** 2 patients(2.9%)reported a first-degree relative with *** an average surveillance period of 12.3 years,0.5 colonoscopies per year were *** developed 2.3 new adenomas per year.4(5.7%)were diagnosed with colorectal cancer(cRc)at a mean age of 66 years,and 3 were diagnosed prior to the onset of oligopolyposis.7(10%)required colectomy due to advanced dysplasia or polyp *** respect to upper gastrointestinal manifestations,1 patient had a gastric adenoma,but there were no cases of gastric or small bowel *** surveillance,10(14%)patients died at a mean age of 72,and none were due to *** cPUE is distinct from familial adenomatous polyposis(FAP)syndrome and the use of FAP surveillance guidelines may result in unnecessarily frequent upper and lower endoscopies.

Prioritizing woody species for the rehabilitation of arid lands in western Iran based on soil properties and carbon sequestration

Plants are an important component in many natural ecosystems. They influence soil properties, especially in arid ecosystems. The selection of plant species based on their adaptations to site conditions is essential for rehabilitation of degraded sites and other construction sites such as check-dams. Other factors to be considered in species selection include their effects on soil properties and their abilities to meet other management objectives. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of native(Populus euphratica Oliv. and Tamarix ramosissima Ledeb.) and introduced(Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. and Prosopis juliflora(Swartz) Dc.) woody species on soil properties and carbon sequestration(cS) in an arid region of Iran. Soil sampling was collected at three soil depths(0–10, 10–20 and 20–30 cm) at the sites located under each woody species canopy and in an open area in 2017. Soil physical-chemical property was analyzed in the laboratory. The presence of a woody species changed soil characteristics and soil cS, compared with the open area. For example, the presence of a woody species caused a decrease in soil bulk density, of which the lowest value was observed under E. camaldulensis(1.38 g/cm^3) compared with the open area(1.59 g/cm^3). Also, all woody species significantly increased the contents of soil organic matter and total nitrogen, and introduced species had more significant effect than native species. The results showed that cS significantly increased under the canopy of all woody species in a decreasing order of P. euphratica(9.08 t/hm^2)>E. camaldulensis(8.37 t/hm^2)>P. juliflora(5.20 t/hm^2)>T. ramosissima(2.93 t/hm^2)>open area(1.33 t/hm^2), thus demonstrating the positive effect of a woody species on cS. Although the plantation of non-native species had some positive effects on soil properties, we recommend increasing species diversity in plantations of native and introduced woody species to provide more diversity for the increased ecosystem

Langmuir Probe and Optical Emission Spectroscopy Studies of Low-Pressure Gas Mixture of cO_2 and N_2

Optical emission spectroscopy was used to study a gas mixture glow discharge of cO2 and N2 at a total pressure of 1.2 Torr, a power of 100 W and a flow of 16.5 L/min. The emission bands were measured in the wavelength range of 200 nm to 900 nm. The principal species observed were O2^＋（A^2П→ X^2П）, cO^＋（A^2П→X^2∑）, N2^＋（B^2∑u＋ → X^2∑g^＋）, cO2^＋（A^2∏ → X^2∏）, N2（c^3∏u → B^3∏g）, O2（b^1∑g^＋→ X^3∑g^-）, and cO （a^r3∑→a^3∏）. The behavior of the band intensities as a function of the N2 percentage is consistent with recent Monte carlo simulations. The electron temperature and ion density were determined by a double Langmuir probe. The electron temperature was found in the range of 1.55 eV to 2.93 eV, and the electron concentration in the order of 10^10 cm^-3. The electron temperature and ion density at pure N2 and pure cO2 agree with previous measurements.

Functionalization of Single- and Multi-Walled carbon Nanotubes with cationic Amphiphiles for Plasmid DNA complexation and Transfection

The possibility of delivering DNA effi ciently to cells represents a crucial issue for the treatment of both genetic and acquired ***,even although the effi ciency of non-viral transfection systems has improved in the last decade,none have yet proven to be suffi ciently effective in *** report herein our results on the functionalization of single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWNT)and multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWNT)by two cationic amphiphiles(lipid RPR120535 and pyrenyl polyamine),their use for the complexation of plasmid DNA,and their efficiency in transfecting cells in *** experiments have shown that the efficiency of transfection is higher when using SWNT instead of MWNT,and that transfection effi ciency is similar or slightly higher when using nanoplexes(SWNT/lipid RPR120535/DNA)instead of lipoplexes(lipid RPR120535/DNA)and several orders of magnitude higher than that of naked *** study therefore shows both that the transfection is better when using SWNTs and that it is dependent on the nature of the amphiphilic molecules adsorbed on the nanotubes.

Antioxidant capacity and phytochemical content of 16 sources of corn distillers dried grains with solubles(DDGS)

corn distillers dried grains with solubles(DDGS) is a co-product of the fuel ethanol industry that is an excellent source of energy, digestible amino acids, and digestible phosphorus. However, the antioxidant capacity and phytochemical content of DDGS and how it is influenced by production parameters is unknown. Therefore, 16 DDGS samples obtained from different ethanol production plants in the *** characterized for antioxidant capacity, vitamin E, xanthophylls, and ferulic acid content and compared with corn. The antioxidant capacity of DDGS samples, measured using the 2,2-diphenyl-lpicrylhydrazyl(DPPH) assay, varied almost 2 folds among samples, but in all cases was more than 3 times that of corn. All DDGS samples had a considerably greater concentration of tocopherols and tocotrienols(lipid-soluble antioxidants) than corn. However, the relative concentrations among the tocopherols and tocotrienols tended to be similar to corn. The xanthophyll lutein was present in all DDGS samples and in all cases exceeded the content in corn. Zeaxanthin was detected in most samples. The total ferulic acid content of the DDGS samples was almost 3-fold greater than corn, but, as in corn, almost all was present in a bound form. However, the concentration of unbound(free) ferulic acid was more than 3 times the concentration found in the corn sample. Thus, DDGS is a rich source of phytochemical compounds and may provide antioxidant and health benefits beyond its macronutrient composition. However, differences in processing can greatly influence the phytochemical content and quality of DDGS. In particular,thermal abuse due to excessive heat used in drying may lead to lipid oxidation products that may have deleterious effects when incorporated into feeds.

Flexible networked rural electrification using levelized interpolative genetic algorithm

Networked rural electrification is an alternative approach to accelerate rural *** satellite photos and GIS tools,an electrical distribution network is used to connect villages and properly located generation facilities together to reduce electrification *** design the network,optimal paths connecting all node-pairs are identified,followed by finding a network topology that minimizes *** work has illustrated that A*(A-star,an optimal path-finding algorithm)is inefficient for this application due to the complex topography in rural *** multiplier-accelerated A*(MAA*)algorithm overcomes key performance issues,but,like A*,produces only one path connecting each *** on one path increases project risk because adverse conditions,such as inaccurate GIS estimation,unexpected soil conditions,land-rights disputes,political issues,*** occur during *** this paper,a hybrid path-finding method combining genetic algorithm and A*/MAA*algorithm is *** proposed method provides a family of near-optimal paths instead of a single optimal path for routing.A family of paths allows a project implementer to quickly adapt to unexpected situations as new information becomes available,and flexibly change network topology before or during implementation with minimal impact on project cost.

Effective teaching of endoscopy:a qualitative study of the perceptions of gastroenterology fellows and attending gastroenterologists
