Effect of the Inclusion of Chestnut in the Finishing Diet on Volatile Compounds of Dry-Cured Ham from Celta Pig Breed

The effect of the inclusion of chestnut in pigs ifnishing diet on volatile compounds of dry-cured Celta ham was studied. Twelve hams of each type （from three different pigs ifnishing diets：concentrate （CO）, mixed （mI） and chestnut （CH）） were used. Volatiles were extracted using a purge-and-trap method and analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry （GC/mS）. Thirty-nine volatile compounds were identified in dry-cured Celta ham samples. most abundant volatiles in ham samples were aldehydes, which represented respectively, 53% （CO）, 51% （mI） and 46% （CH） of the total volatile composition. With the exception of 2-butenal, 2-methyl, all aldehydes were affected by feeding system. On the other hand, hydrocarbons n-alkanes were the second major group in the volatile proifle of dry-cured Celta hams and represented 28.9, 35.7 and 32.4%of the total volatile composition for CO, mI and CH groups, respectively. Ham samples from chestnut group showed a higher content of alcohols and this result could be related with the inclusion of chestnut in the ifnishing diet of pigs. Principal component analysis showed a good separation among groups. The discriminant analysis selected eight variables （butanoic acid, hexanal, octanal, nonenal （E）, decenal （E）, tetradecane, decane trimethyl and pyridine 2-methyl） and calculated two discriminating functions to predict if chestnut has been included in the ifnishing diet. Thus, it was possible to discriminate between groups fed with ifnishing diets containing chestnuts in their composition （mixed and chestnut group）.

Satisfaction with patient-doctor relationships in inflammatory bowel diseases:Examining patient-initiated change of specialist

AIm:To assess the reasons for,and factors associated with,patient-initiated changes in treating specialist in inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD).mETHODS:Prospectively identified IBD patients(n = 256) with ≥ 1 encounter at a metropolitan hospital were surveyed,including whether they had changed treating specialist and *** reasons included loss of confidence,disagreement,and/or personality clash with the ***:Of 162 respondents,70(43%) had ever changed specialists;30/70(43%) for negative reasons,52/70(74%) in the preceding *** with negative reasons for changing(n = 30) were younger(median,35.2 years vs 45.3 years),had higher IBD knowledge(median,5.0 years vs 4.0 years),yet had lower medication adherence and satisfaction scores(median,19.0 years vs 22.0 years,14.0 years vs 16.0 years respectively,mann-Whitney tests,all P mpared to all other responders(n = 132).Patients with a recent change(for any reason) were more likely to have Crohn's disease,currently active disease,previous bowel resection and recent hospitalization [OR 2.6,95% CI(1.3-5.4),2.2(1.0-4.7),5.56(1.92-16.67),2.0(1.3-3.0),eachP mporaneous disease-related factors(recent relapse) which,where modifiable,may enhance patient-doctor relationships and therefore quality of care.

Analysing the Potential Impact of Climate Change on the Hydrological Regime of the Upper Benue River Basin (North Cameroon)

In this study, we analyse the climate variability in the Upper Benue basin and assess its potential impact on the hydrology regime under two different greenhouse gas emission scenarios. The hydrological regime of the basin is more vulnerable to climate variability, especially precipitation and temperature. Observed hydroclimatic data (1950-2015) was analysed using a statistical approach. The potential impact of future climate change on the hydrological regime is quantified using the GR2m model and two climate models: HadGEm2-ES and mIROC5 from CmIP5 under RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 greenhouse gas emission scenarios. The main result shows that precipitation varies significantly according to the geographical location and time in the Upper Benue basin. The trend analysis of climatic parameters shows a decrease in annual average precipitation across the study area at a rate of -0.568 mm/year which represents about 37 mm/year over the time 1950-2015 compared to the 1961-1990 reference period. An increase of 0.7°C in mean temperature and 14% of PET are also observed according to the same reference period. The two climate models predict a warming of the basin of about 2°C for both RCP 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios and an increase in precipitation between 1% and 10% between 2015 and 2100. Similarly, the average annual flow is projected to increase by about +2% to +10% in the future for both RCP 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios between 2015 and 2100. Therefore, it is primordial to develop adaptation and mitigation measures to manage efficiently the availability of water resources.

A case is made for further developing a branch of systems engineering that focuses on problems and issues which arise in the service sector. We promulgate this special focus not only because of the size and importance of the service sector but also because of the unique opportunities that systems engineering can exploit in the design and joint production and delivery of services. We begin by considering the economic, technological and demographic contexts within which the service sector has flourished; we then address both services, especially emerging services, and systems engineering, followed by a discussion of how to advance the field of service systems engineering, and concluding with several remarks. In particular, a number of service systems engineering methods are identified to enhance the design and production/delivery of services, especially taking advantage of the unique features that characterize services - namely, services, especially emerging services, are information-driven, customer-centric, e-oriented, and productivity-focused.

Neoadjuvant therapy for pancreas cancer: Past lessons and future therapies

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma remains a most deadly malignancy, with an overall 5-year survival of 5%. A subset of patients will be diagnosed with potentially resectable disease, and while complete surgical resection provides the only chance at cure, data from trials of postoperative chemoradiation and/or chemotherapy demonstrate a modest survival advantage over those patients who undergo resection alone. As such, most practitioners believe that completion of multimodality therapy is the optimal treatment. However, the sequence of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy is frequently debated, as patients may benefit from a neoadjuvant approach by initiating chemotherapy and/or chemoradiation prior to resection. Here we review the rationale for neoadjuvant therapy, which includes a higher rate of completion of multimodality therapy, minimizing the risk of unnecessary surgical resection for patients who develop early metastatic disease, improved surgical outcomes and the potential for longer overall survival. However, there are no prospective, randomized studies of the neoadjuvant approach compared to a surgeryfirst strategy; the established and ongoing investigations of neoadjuvant therapy for pancreatic cancer are discussed in detail. Lastly, as the future of therapeutic regimens is likely to entail patient-specific genetic and molecular analyses, and the treatment that is best applied based on those data, a review of clinically relevant biomarkers in pancreatic cancer is also presented.

Strategies and challenges to increase the precision in feeding zinc to monogastric livestock

Practical diets for monogastric livestock must be supplemented with zinc(Zn) due to their high contents of antagonistic substances like phytates. Current feeding recommendations include quite generous safety margins because of uncertainties regarding the gross Zn requirements under varying rearing ***, the use of pharmacological Zn doses to stabilise animal performance and wellbeing is widespread. Taken together, modern diets for pigs and poultry contain considerably more Zn than necessary to meet animal requirements, which is associated with concerns related to the environment as well as animal and consumer safety. Therefore, European authorities most recently reduced the allowed upper limits for Zn in complete feed. To maintain animal productivity and wellbeing while reducing the Zn load in complete feed, all measures that stabilize feed Zn bioavailability must be applied. most importantly, reliable information on the gross Zn requirement under practical conditions must be provided, considering the bioavailability of native or supplemented feed Zn, antagonisms with dietary factors as well as the physiological status of the animal.

Hypoxia inducible factor(HIF) in the tumor microenvironment：friend or foe？

Hypoxia acts as an important regulator of physiological and pathological processes. Hypoxia inducible factors(HIFs) are the central players involved in the cellular adaptation to hypoxia and are regulated by oxygen sensing EGLN prolyl *** affects many aspects of cellular growth through both redox effects and through the stabilization of HIFs. The HIF isoforms likely have differential effects on tumor growth via alteration of metabolism, growth, and self-renewal and are likely highly context-dependent. In some tumors such as renal cell carcinoma, the EGLN/HIF axis appears to drive tumorigenesis,while in many others HIF1 and HIF2 may actually have a tumor suppressive role. An emerging role of HIF biology is its effects on the tumor microenvironment. The EGLN/HIF axis plays a key role in regulating the function of the various components of the tumor microenvironment, which include cancer-associated fibroblasts, endothelial cells, immune cells, and the extracellular matrix(ECm). Here, we discuss hypoxia and the diverse roles of HIFs in the setting of tumorigenesis and the maintenance of the tumor microenvironment as well as possible future directions of the field.

Experimental studies on the erosion rate of different heat treated carbon steel economiser tubes of power boilers by fly ash particles

The experimental investigations on the effect of the fly ash particle size, velocity, impingement angle, and feed rate were done with an emphasis on the effect of erosion on annealed SA 210 GrA1 （A） and normalized SA 210 GrA1 （N） carbon steel economizer-tube materials. Erosion rates were evaluated with different impingement angles ranging from 15° to 90°, at four different velocities of 32.5, 35, 37.5, and 40 m/s, and at four different feed rates of fly ash particles of 2, 4, 6 and 8 g/min. The erodent used was fly ash particles, sizes ranging from 50-250 μm of irregular shapes. Erosion rate is found to be the maximum at the impingement angle of 30°. Erosion rates of the carbon steel tube in different heat treatment conditions, annealed and normalized, at a constant velocity of 32.5 m/s with different angles were studied. In all cases of feed rates, impingement angles, particle sizes, and velocities of fly ash particles, it has been found that the erosion rate of the annealed tube is less than that of the normalized tube. Empirical correlations for erosion rate relating the velocity, size, feed rate, and impingement angle of the particles and elongation property of the target materials were arrived. morphologies of the eroded surface were examined by scanning electron microscope （SEm）.
