Use of DREAM to assess relative risks of presence of pharmaceuticals and personal care products from a wastewater treatment plant

Concerns related to environmental risks associated with pharmaceuticals and personal care products(PPCPs)have led researchers to seek methods for assessing and monitoring these contaminants in the aquatic *** and validating risk assessment tools that can evaluate ecological concerns and risks associated with PPCPs is ***,the suitability of a dose-related risk and effect assessment model,which estimates predicted environmental concentrations and allowed comparisons with predicted no effect concentrations determined,in combination with in vitro analyses of the whole effluent toxicity,was verified for the characterization of a PPCP *** of the most utilized PPCPs in Norway were measured in influent and effluent samples and used to parameterize the fate *** than 90%removal was attained for 12 out of 22 detected *** was not dependent on the class or the concentration of the specific substance and varied between 12%and 100%.The PPCPs detected in the discharged wastewater were utilized to assess individual contributions to the risk of the effluent,and no risk was identified for the targeted 30 *** simulations provided valuable information regarding the discharge plume distribution over time,which can aid planning of future environmental monitoring ***(using fish liver cells,PLHC-1)were used for assessing overall effluent toxicity,through cell viability,production of reactive oxygen species,and ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase(EROD)*** present study may allow regulators to use risk-based strategies over removal criteria for monitoring studies and confirms the importance to take PPCP contamination into consideration when establishing environmental regulations.

Peanut is a worldwide oilseed crop and the need to assess germplasm in a non-destructive manner is important for seed nutritional *** this study,Near Infrared Spectroscopy(NIRS)was applied to rapidly assess germplasm variability from whole seed of 699 samples,field-collected and assembled in four genetic and environmentbased sets:one set of 300 varieties of a core-collection and three sets of 133 genotypes of an interspecific population,evaluated in three environments in a large spatial scale of two countries,Mbalmayo and Bafia in Cameroon and Nioro in Senegal,under rainfed *** elemental spectra were gathered on six subsets of seeds of each sample,after three rotation scans,with a spectral resolution of 16 cm-1over the spectral range of867 nm to 2530 *** were then processed by principal component analysis(PCA)coupled with Partial least squares-discriminant analysis(PLS-DA).As results,a huge variability was found between varieties and genotypes for all NIR wavelength within and between *** magnitude of genetic variation was particularly observed at 11 relevant wavelengths such as 1723 nm,usually related to oil content and fatty acid *** yielded the most chemical attributes in three significant PCs(i.e.,eigenvalues>10),which together captured 93%of the total variation,revealing genetic and environment structure of varieties and genotypes into four clusters,corresponding to the four samples *** pattern of genetic variability of the interspecific population covers,remarkably half of spectrum of the core-collection,turning out to be the ***,a PLS-DA model was developed and a strong accuracy of 99.6%was achieved for the four sets,aiming to classify each seed sample according to environment *** confusion matrix achieved for the two sets of Bafia and Nioro showed 100%of instances classified correctly with 100%at both sensitivity and specificity,confirming that their seed quality was different f

The development in technology of synthetic azo dyes,has led to excessive water resources *** n at lower concentration they can impart the quality of water and human ***,we have developed a novel synthesis strategy via introducing salicylic acid(SA)for the synthesis of a leachy crystalline material H-MIL-53(Fe)with hierarchical pores(HP)and exposed coordination unsaturated sites(CUS),which had higher surface area and larger pore volume than the as synthesized MIL-53(Fe).Due to these characteristics,H-MIL-53(Fe)was competent removal of orange G(OG,one of the frequently used azo dyes)with equilibrium in 300 min and the maximum adsorption capacity of 163.9 mg/*** adsorption mechanism of OG onto H-MIL-53(Fe)was mostly based on electrostatic attraction between CUS of HMIL-53(Fe)along with HP as active species to OG diffusion and *** comparing H-MIL-53(Fe)with other adsorbents for OG adsorption,it is undoubtedly that H-MIL-53(Fe)can be used as a promising adsorbent for OG removal from aqueous solutions.

AIM： To assess pre-orthotopic liver transplantation （OLT） factors that could be evaluated pre-operatively or controlled post-operatively associated with hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） recurrence and disease-free survival after liver transplantation （LT）.METHODS： Four hundred and twelve patients transplanted for HCC between 1988 and 1998 in 14 French centers, who survived the postoperative period were studied. Kaplan Meier estimates were calculated for 24 variables potentially associated with recurrence of HCC. Uni- and multivariate analyses were conducted to identify independent predictors of recurrence. RESULTS： Overall 5-year disease-free survival was 57.1%. By univariate analysis, variables associated with disease-free survival were： presence of cirrhosis （P = 0.001）, etiology of liver disease （P = 0.03）, α fetoprotein level （〈 200, 200 to 2000, or 〉 2000; P 〈 0.0001）, y-GT activity （N, N to 2N or 〉 2N; P = 0.02）, the number of nodules （1, 2-3 or ≥ 4; P = 0.02）, maximal diameter of the largest nodule （〈 3 cm, 3 to 5 cm or 〉 5 cm; P 〈 0.0001）, the sum of the diameter of the nodules （〈 3 cm, 3 to 5 cm, 5 to 10 cm or 〉10 cm; P 〈 0.0001）, bilobar location （P = 0.01）, preoperative portal thrombosis （P 〈 0.0001）, peri-operative treatment of the tumor （P = 0.002） and chemoembolization （P = 0.03）, tumor differentiation （P = 0.01）, initial type of calcineurin inhibitor （P = 0.003）, the use of antilymphocyte antibodies （P = 0.02）, rejection episodes （P = 0.003） and period of LT （P 〈 0.0001）. By multivariate analysis, 6 variables were independently associated with HCC recurrence： maximal diameter of the largest nodule （P 〈 0.0001）, time of LT （P 〈 0.0001）, tumor differentiation （P 〈 0.0001）, use of anti-lymphocyte antibody （ATG） or anti-CD3 antibody （OKT3）（P = 0.005）, preoperative portal thrombosis （P = 0.06） and the number of nodules （P = 0.06）.
