The corrosion rates of additive-manufactured Mg alloys are higher than their as-cast counterparts,possibly due to increased kinetics for the hydrogen evolution reaction on secondary phases,which may include oxide *** kelvin Probe Force Microscopy demonstrated that MgO inclusions could act as cathodes for Mg corrosion,but their low conductivity likely precludes ***,the density of state calculations through density functional theory using hybrid HSE06 functional revealed overlapping electronic states at the Mg/MgO interface,which facilitates electron transfers and participates in redox *** determination of the hydrogen absorption energy at the Mg/MgO interface reveals it to be an excellent catalytic site,with HER being found to be a factor of 23x more efficient at the interface than on metallic *** results not only support the plausibility of the Mg/MgO interface being an effective cathode to the adjacent anodic Mg matrix during corrosion but also contribute to the understanding of the enhanced cathodic activities observed during the anodic dissolution of magnesium.

Background Asthma is a significant chronic health problem worldwide. Management aims at disease control by reducing functional impairment and exacerbations and improving quality of life (QoL). We report a multi-center study to survey asthma control and QoL in four cities in the Pearl River Delta. Methods The conjoint survey involved ten Hong k.ng pediatric hospitals/units, two Shenzhen hospitals, two Macao hos-pitals, and two Guangzhou hospitals on asthma control (using Asthma Control Test) and QoL (Pediatric Allergic Disease Quality of Life Questionnaire, PADQLQ). Acceptability of a treatment is graded as very good/good/fair/poor. Results Good asthma control was only reported in 80% subjects in Hong k.ng, but higher in sister cities (85–94%, Png', and 'smoker in family' were prevalent among the four cities. Logistic regres-sion showed better control of asthma was associated with better PADQLQ (B=?0.029, P ker in family' (B=?0.83, P = 0.015) and various PADQLQ domains. Conversely, worse PADQLQ was associated with allergic rhinitis severity (B=4.77, P ker in family' (B=4.05, P ng at home (B=3.9, P ng the four southern Chinese cities within the Guangdong province. This study identifies potentially modifiable environmental and treatment factors associated with poor asthma control and QoL for health-care interventions. Having a smoker in the family is independently associated with poor asthma control and QoL.

Reliable estimation of region-wide rice yield is vital for food security and agricultural ***-scale models have increased our understanding of rice yield and its estimation under theoretical environmental ***,they offer little infor-mation on spatial variability effects on farm-scale *** Sensing(RS)is a useful tool to upscale yield estimates from farm scales to regional *** research used RS with rice models for reliable yield *** several countries start to operatio-nalize rice monitoring systems,it is needed to synthesize current literature to identify knowledge gaps,to improve estimation accuracies,and to optimize *** paper critically reviewed significant developments in using geospatial methods,imagery,and quantitative models to estimate rice ***,essential characteristics of rice were discussed as detected by optical and radar sensors,band selection,sensor configuration,spatial resolution,mapping methods,and biophysical variables of rice derivable from RS ***,various empirical,process-based,and semi-empirical models that used RS data for spatial estimation of yield were critically assessed-discussing how major types of models,RS platforms,data assimilation algorithms,canopy state variables,and RS variables can be integrated for yield ***,to overcome current constraints and to improve accuracies,several possibilities were suggested-adding new modeling modules,using alternative canopy variables,and adopting novel modeling *** rice yields are expected to decrease due to global warming,geospatial rice yield estimation techniques are indispensable tools for climate change *** studies should focus on resolving the current limitations of estimation by precise delineation of rice cultivars,by incorporating dynamic harvesting indices based on climatic drivers,using innovative modeling approaches with machine learning.

Paddy rice agriculture is practiced in both rain-fed and irrigated ecosystems in the ***,small farms are prevalent in the region,and current satellite-based mapping techniques do not distinguish between the two ecosystems at farm *** study developed an approach to rapidly map irrigated and rain-fed paddy rice in Iloilo,Philippines at 10 m resolutions using Google Earth *** approach used an ensemble of classifiers based on time-series vegetation indices to produce dry and wet seasonal maps for the entire *** showed a predominance of rain-fed rice areas in both seasons,with irrigated rice mak.ng up only onefourth of the total rice *** overall accuracy was achieved at 68%for the dry season and 75%for the wet season based on ground-acquired points and very high-resolution *** two types of paddies were classified at accuracies up to 87%.Furthermore,the land cover maps showed a strong agreement with the municipal *** resultant maps complement current official statistics and demonstrate the prowess of phenology-based mapping to create paddy inventories in a timely manner to inform food security and agricultural policies.

This study systematically evaluates the TCGA whole-transcriptome sequencing data of hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） by comparing the global gene expression profiles between tumors and their corresponding non- tumorous liver tissue. Based on the differential gene expression analysis, we identified a number of novel dysregulated genes, in addition to those previously reported. Top-listing upregulated （CENPF and FOXM1） and downregulated （CLEC4G, CRHBP, and CLEC1B） genes were successfully validated using qPCR on our cohort of 65 pairs of human HCCs. Further examination for the mechanistic overview by subjecting significantly upregulated and downregulated genes to gene set enrichment analysis showed that different cellular pathways were involved. This study provides useful information on the transcriptomic landscape and molecular mechanism of hepatocarcinogenesis for development of new biomarkers and further in-depth characterization.

Oncovirus infection is crucial in human *** oncoviruses can lead to structural variations in the human genome known as viral genomic integration,which can contribute to *** viral integration detection tools differ in their underlying algorithms pinpointing different aspects or features of viral integration *** discuss about major procedures in performing viral integration *** importantly,we provide a technical update on Virus-Clip to facilitate its usage on the latest human genome builds(hg19 and hg38)and the adoption of multi-thread mode for faster initial read *** comparing the execution of Virus-Clip using single-thread and multi-thread modes of read alignment on targeted-panel sequencing data of HBV-associated hepatocellular carcinoma patients,we demonstrate the marked improvement of multi-thread mode in terms of significantly reduced execution time,while there is negligible difference in memory *** together,with the current update of Virus-Clip,it will continue supporting the in silico detection of oncoviral integration for better understanding of various human malignancies.
