Nanosphere molecularly imprinted polymers doped with gold nanoparticles for high selectivity molecular sensors

We report the first attempt of using molecularly imprinted polymers （MIPs） in the shape of nanoparticles that were doped with gold nanoparticles （AuNPs） for surface enhanced Raman scattering （SERS）-based sensing of molecular spedes. Specifically, AuNPs doped molecularly imprinted nano-spheres （AuNPs@nanoMIPs） were synthesized by one-pot precipitation polymerization using Sudan IV as the template for the SERS sensing. The AuNPs@nanoMIPs were characterized by various modes of scanning transmission electron microscopy （STEM） that showed the exact location of the AuNPs inside the MIP particles. The effects of Au concentration and solution stirring on the shape and the polydispersity of the particles were studied. Significant enhancement of the Raman signals was observed only when the MIP particles were doped with the AuNPs. The SERS signal improved significantly with increase in the Au concentration inside the AuNPs@nanoMIPs. Selectivity measurements of the Sudan IV imprinted AuNPs@nanoMIPs carried out with different Sudan derivatives showed high selectivity of the AuNPs-doped MIP particles.

Substantial usage of electronic-based renewable energy resources has completely changed the dynamic behaviours and response time of power networks,which are now fundamentally different from traditional power networks dominated by Synchronous Generators(SGs).This paper evaluates the dynamic response of small-scale Photovoltaic(PV)inverters,which dominate the distribution networks and influence the dynamics of the entire power ***,some critical events which occurred in Australia have shown that the dynamic responses of small-scale inverters do not always follow the inverter ***,these uncertainties make PV inverters’response unpredictable and have the potential to threaten the security of power *** detailed investigation of the dynamic response characteristics of small-scale PV inverters to grid disturbances is lacking in the current *** paper presents new findings from experimental testing under extensive network disturbance ***,a datadriven method is proposed to accurately describe the dynamics of solar PV subjected to various frequency *** results provide beneficial insight to the network operators in predicting power system response to extreme disturbances and avoiding potential grid instability issues,which will assist in achieving 100%penetration of power electronics-based renewable energy resources in the future.

The selective recognition of nanoparticles (NPs) can be achieved by nanoparticle-imprinted matrices (NAIMs),where NPs are imprinted in a matrix followed by their removal to form voids that can reuptake the original *** recognition depends on supramolecular interactions between the matrix and the shell of the NPs,as well as on the geometrical suitability of the imprinted voids to accommodate the ***,gold NPs stabilized with citrate (AuNPs-cit) were preadsorbed onto a conductive surface followed by electrografting of p-aryldiazonium salts (ADS) with different functional *** thickness of the matrix was carefully controlled by altering the scan *** AuNPs-cit were removed by electrochemical *** recognition of the NAIMs was determined by the reuptake of the original AuNPs-cit by the imprinted *** found that the recognition efficiency is a function of the thickness of the NAIM layer and is sensitive to the chemical structure of the ***,a subtle change of the functional group of the p-aryldiazonium building block,which was varied from an ether to an ester,significantly affected the recognition of the NPs.

Formation and removal of active oxygen species for the non-catalytic CO oxidation on Au/TiO_2 catalysts

Applying quantitative temporal analysis of products reactor measurements, we studied the reactive removal of active oxygen present on Au/TiO2 catalysts after calcination at elevated temperatures （400 ＆#176;C） by CO pulses and its replenishment by O2 pulses at 80 ＆#176;C, focusing on the nature of the active oxygen species. In contrast to previous studies, which mainly focused on and clarified the nature of the active oxygen species for the catalytic CO oxidation, which is reversibly formed and replenished under typical reaction conditions, this study demonstrates that directly after calcina‐tion an additional oxygen species is present. This species is also active for the CO oxidation, but it is not or only very little formed under typical reaction conditions. Implications of these results on the mechanistic understanding of the CO oxidation on Au/TiO2, in particular on the role of different active oxygen species, will be discussed.

AIM:To compare reverse-total shoulder arthroplasty(RSA)cost-effectiveness with total hip arthroplasty ***:This study used a stochastic model and decision-making algorithm to compare the costeffectiveness of RSA and total hip *** patients underwent pre-operative,and 3,6,and 12 mo post-operative clinical examinations and Short Form-36 Health Survey *** form-36 Health Survey subscale scores were converted to EuroQ ual Group Five Dimension Health Outcome scores and compared with historical data from age-matched patients who had undergone total hip ***-adjusted life year(QALY)improvements based on life expectancies were ***:The cost/QALY was $3900 for total hip arthroplasty and $11100 for *** adjusting the model to only include shoulder-specific physical function subscale items,the RSA QALY improved to 2.8years,and its cost/QALY decreased to $***:Based on industry accepted standards,cost/QALY estimates supported both RSA and total hip arthroplasty *** total hip arthroplasty remains the quality of life improvement "gold standard" among arthroplasty procedures,cost/QALY estimates identified in this study support the growing use of RSA to improve patient quality of life.

We experimentally demonstrate an ultra-thin plasmonic optical rotator in the visible regime that induces a polarization rotation that is continuously tunable and switchable by an external magnetic *** rotator is a magneto-plasmonic hybrid structure consisting of a magneto-optical EuSe slab and a one-dimensional plasmonic gold *** low temperatures,EuSe possesses a large Verdet constant and exhibits Faraday rotation,which does not saturate over a regime of several *** combining these properties with plasmonic Faraday rotation enhancement,a large tuning range of the polarization rotation of up to 8.4° for a film thickness of 220 nm is ***,through experiments and simulations,we demonstrate that the unique dispersion properties of the structure enable us to tailor the wavelengths of the tunable polarization rotation to arbitrary spectral positions within the transparency window of the magneto-optical *** demonstrated concept might lead to important,highly integrated,non-reciprocal,photonic devices for light modulation,optical isolation,and magnetic field optical *** simple fabrication of EuSe nanostructures by physical vapor deposition opens the way for many potentially interesting magneto-plasmonic systems and three-dimensional magneto-optical metamaterials.

Extracting body surface dimensions from top-view images of pigs

Continuous live weight and carcass traits estimation are important for the pig production and breeding *** is widely known that top-view images of a pig’s body(excluding its head and neck)reveal surface dimension parameters,which are correlated with live weight and carcass ***,because a pig is not constrained when an image is captured,the body does not always have a straight *** creates a big challenge when extracting the body surface dimension parameters,and consequently the live weight and carcass traits estimation has a high level of *** primary goal of this study is to propose an algorithm to automatically extract pig body surface dimension parameters,with a better accuracy,from top-view pig ***,the backbone line of a pig was ***,lengths of line segments perpendicular to the backbone line were calculated,and then feature points on the pig’s contour line were extracted based on the lengths variation of the perpendicular line ***,the head and neck of the pig were removed from the pig’s contour by an ***,four length and one area parameters were *** proposed algorithm was implemented in Matlab®(R2012b)and applied to 126 depth images of *** the results of the manual labeling tool as the gold standard,the length and area parameters could be obtained by the proposed algorithm with an accuracy of 97.71%(SE=1.64%)and 97.06%(SE=1.82%),*** parameters can be used to improve pig live weight and carcass traits estimation accuracy in the future work.
