Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is the 4th leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. The majority of patients are candidates only for palliative chemotherapy, which has proven largely ineffective in halting tumor progression. One proposed mechanism of chemoresistance involves signaling via the mesenchymal-epithelial transition factor protein (MeT), a previously established pathway critical to cell proliferation and migration. Here, we review the literature to characterize the role of MeT in the development of tumorigenesis, metastasis and chemoresistance, highlighting the potential of MeT as a therapeutic target in pancreatic cancer. In this review, we characterize the role of c-Met in the development of tumorigenesis, metastasis and chemoresistance, highlighting the potential of c-Met as a therapeutic target in pancreatic cancer.

Purpose:This study examined variation in foot strike types,lower extremity kinematics,and arch height and stiffness among Tarahumara Indians from the Sierra ***:High speed video was used to study the kinematics of 23 individuals.13 who habitually wear traditional minimal running sandals(huaraches).and 10 who habitually wear modern,conventional running shoes with elevated,cushioned heels and arch *** of foot shape and arch stiffness were taken on these individuals plus an additional sample of 12 ***:Minimally shod Tarahumara exhibit much variation with 40%primarily using midfoot strikes,30%primarily using forefoot strikes,and30%primarily using rearfoot *** contrast,75%of the conventionally shod Tarahumara primarily used rearfoot strikes,and 25%primarily used midfoot *** who used forefoot or midfoot strikes landed with significantly more plantarflexed ankles,flexed knees,and flexed hips than runners who used rearfoot *** measurements indicate that conventionally shod Tarahumara also have significantly less stiff arches than those wearing minimal ***:These data reinforce earlier studies that there is variation among foot strike patterns among minimally shod runners,but also support the hypothesis that foot stiffness and important aspects of running form,including foot strike,differ between runners who grow up using minimal versus modem,conventional footwear.

This study integrates novel data on 100-year flood hazard extents,exposure of residential properties,and place-based social vulnerability to comprehensively assess and compare flood risk between Indigenous communities living on 985 reserve lands and other Canadian communities across 3701 census ***-scale exposure of residential properties to fluvial,pluvial,and coastal flooding was estimated at the 100-year return period.A social vulnerability index(SVI)was developed and included 49 variables from the national census that represent demographic,social,economic,cultural,and infrastructure/community indicators of *** information system-based bivariate choropleth mapping of the composite SVI scores and of flood exposure of residential properties and population was completed to assess the spatial variation of flood *** found that about 81%of the 985 Indigenous land reserves had some flood exposure that impacted either population or residential *** analysis indicates that residential property-level flood exposure is similar between non-Indigenous and Indigenous communities,but socioeconomic vulnerability is higher on reserve lands,which confirms that the overall risk of Indigenous communities is *** suggest the need for more local verification of flood risk in Indigenous communities to address uncertainty in national scale analysis.

Stromal cells provide a crucial microenvironment for overlying epithelium. Here we investigated the expression and function of a stromal cell-specific protein, stromal cell-derived factor-1 （SDF-1）, in normal human skin and in the tissues of diseased skin. Immunohistology and laser capture microdissection （LCM）-coupled quantitative real- time RT-PCR revealed that SDF-1 is constitutively and predominantly expressed in dermal stromal cells in nor- mal human skin in vivo. To our surprise, an extremely high level of SDF-1 transcription was observed in the dermis of normal human skin in vivo, evidenced by much higher mRNA expression level than type I collagen, the most abundant and highly expressed protein in human skin. SDF-1 was also upregulated in the tissues of many human skin disorders including psoriasis, basal cell carcinoma （BCC）, and squamous cell carcinoma （SCC）. Double immunostaining for SDF-1 and HSP47 （heat shock protein 47）, a marker of fibroblasts, revealed that fibroblasts were the major source of stroma-cell-derived SDF-1 in both normal and diseased skin. Functionally, SDF-1 activates the eRK （extracellular-signal-regulated kinases） pathway and functions as a mitogen to stimulate epidermalkeratinocyte proliferation. Both overexpression of SDF-1 in dermal fibroblasts and treatment with rhSDF-1 to the skin equivalent cultures significantly increased the number of keratinocyte layers and epidermal thickness. Con- versely, the stimulative function of SDF-1 on keratinocyte proliferation was nearly completely eliminated by inter- fering with CXCR4, a specific receptor of SDF-1, or by knock-down of SDF-1 in fibroblasts. Our data reveal that extremely high levels of SDF-1 provide a crucial microenvironment for epidermal keratinocyte proliferation in both physiologic and pathologic skin conditions.

Concentration–discharge patterns of weathering products from global rivers

Quantifying the functional relationships relating river discharge and weathering products places key constraints on the negative feedback between the silicate weathering and climate. In this study we analyze the concentration–discharge relationships of weathering products from global rivers using previously compiled time-series datasets for concentrations and discharge from global rivers. To analyze the nature of the covariation between specific discharge and concentrations, we use both a power law equation and a recently developed solute production equation. The solute production equation allows us to quantify weathering efficiency, or the resistance to dilution at high runoff, via the Damkohler coefficient. These results are also compared to those derived using average concentration–discharge *** the power law exponent and the Damkohler coefficient increase and asymptote as catchments exhibit increasingly chemostatic behavior, resulting in an inverse relationship between the two parameters. We also show that using thedistribution of average concentration–discharge pairs from global rivers, rather than fitting concentration–discharge relationships for each individual river, underestimates global median weathering efficiency by up to a factor of ～10. This study demonstrates the utility of long time-series sampling of global rivers to elucidate controlling processes needed to quantify patterns in global silicate weathering rates.

Bile acids(BAs) are amphipathic molecules important for metabolism of cholesterol,absorption of lipids and lipid soluble vitamins,bile flow,and regulation of gut *** are over 30 different BA species known to exist in humans and mice,which are endogenous modulators of at least 6 different membrane or nuclear *** diversity of ligands and receptors play important roles in health and disease;however,the full functions of each individual BA in vivo remain *** generated a mouse model lacking the initiating enzymes,CYP7 A1 and CYP27 A1,in the two main pathways of BA *** females are more susceptible to BA related diseases,such as intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy,we expanded this model into female *** null mice of Cyp7 a1 and Cyp27 a1 were crossbred to create double knockout(DKO) *** concentrations in female DKO mice had reductions in serum(63%),liver(83%),gallbladder(94%),and small intestine(85%),as compared to WT *** low BA levels,DKO mice had a similar expression pattern to that of WT mice for genes involved in BA regulation,synthesis,conjugation,and ***,through treatment with a synthetic FXR agonist,GW4064,female DKO mice responded to FXR activation similarly to WT mice.

Age-dependent protein-conformational diseases(PCDs),such as Alzheimer’s disease(AD),Parkinson’s disease(PD),or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS),are characterized by misfolding and aggregation of metastable proteins present within the proteome of the affected *** evidence supports the notion that bacteria and bacterial products may be affecting the stability of these culprit host proteins and therefore influence disease progression and perhaps even its *** specific culprit proteins are associated with each disease(e.g.,Aβin AD,α-synuclein in PD,and TDP-43 in ALS),bacteria found to affect these diseases do not seem to differentiate between these specific proteins but likely affect host proteostasis in general,leading to misfolding of metastable proteins encoded within the *** evidence that supports this hypothesis comes from studies where a single bacterial genus was linked to multiple *** example,a decrease in Prevotella *** linked to constipation,a condition that precedes PD motor symptoms by as much as 20 or more years(Savica et al.,2009;Zhu et al.,2014).

BACKGROUND Cyclops lesions are a known complication of anterior cruciate ligament(ACL)reconstruction,with symptomatic cyclops syndrome occurring in up to 11%of *** cyclops lesions have been rarely documented;this case study documents the successful treatment of a recurrent cyclops *** SUMMARY A 28-year-old female presented following a non-contact injury to the right *** and clinical exam revealed an ACL tear,and arthroscopic reconstruction was *** years later a cyclops lesion was discovered and removed via arthroscopic *** months postoperatively,the patient presented with pain,stiffness,and difficulty achieving terminal extension.A smaller recurrent cyclops lesion was diagnosed,and a repeat synovectomy was *** patient recovered *** To the best of our knowledge,this is the first documented case of recurrent cyclops lesion after bone-patellar tendon-bone allograft ACL reconstruction presenting as cyclops syndrome.

The present analysis provided the quality assessment of 65 Continuous Operating Reference Stations(CORS) situated in and around Mexico using the data of about ten years(January 2010 to January 2020).To accomplish the assessment,we considered 4 quality indexes for performing the quality check,incluing the multipath effect on L1 and L2 bands,signal-to-noise ratio in both bands,cycle slips,and ***,a new reference parameter named regio nal values for Mexico(RVM) was calculated for the stations situated in ***,an exhaustive analysis of the quality indicators in the worst and best cases was *** signal degradation was proved by a long-term time series and cru stal defo rmation analysis in GAMIT/GLOBK *** results showed a stro ng correlation between integrity,cycle slips and daily observations time,and the multipath effect is strong in the case of outdated *** study indicates that the estimated quality indexes and values could be the basis for establishing new CORS in Mexico,and the errors corrections which cannot be mitigated in the postprocessing stage would greatly help utilize the data for different scientific *** results were supported by deformation analysis in part of Baja California Peninsula in Mexico indicating northern and eastern velocity vector of -3.08±0.02 mm/yr,-7.85±0.02 mm/yr and-0.07±0.03 mm/yr,-9.33±0.02 mm/yr respectively at MPR1 and INeG stations.
