Risk factors for long COVID in children and adolescents:a systematic review and meta-analysis

Background The long-term sequelae of COVID-19 in children and adolescents remain poorly understood and *** systematic review and meta-analysis sought to summarize the risk factors for long COVID in the pediatric *** We searched six databases from January 2020 to May 2023 for observational studies reporting on risk factors for long COVID or persistent symptoms those were present 12 or more weeks post-infection using multivariable regression *** registries,reference lists of included studies,and preprint servers were hand-searched for relevant ***-effects meta-analyses were conducted to pool odds ratios for each risk *** study risk of bias was rated using QUIpS,and the GraDE framework was used to assess the certainty of evidence for each unique *** Sixteen observational studies(N=46,262)were included,and 19 risk factors were amenable to *** moderate certainty in the evidence,age(per 2-year increase),allergic rhinitis,obesity,previous respiratory diseases,hospitalization,severe acute COVID-19,and symptomatic acute COVID-19 are probably associated with an increased risk of long *** sex,asthma,comorbidity,and heart diseases may be associated with an increased risk of long COVID,and Asian and Black races may be associated with a decreased risk of long *** did not observe any credible subgroup effects for any risk *** The current body of literature presents several compelling risk factors for the development of long COVID in the pediatric *** research is necessary to elucidate the pathophysiology of long COVID.

A 12-week feeding trial with juvenile red drum(Sciaenops ocellatus) fed high-soybean meal(SBM) diets was conducted to investigate a putative biomarker of nutritional imbalance, N-formimino-L-glutamate(FIGLU). Three fishmeal-free, 60% SBM pelleted diets(named B12, Fol, and Met, respectively) were tested to evaluate the effects on growth performance and tissue metabolite profiles of supplementation of vitamin B12(0.012 mg/kg), folate(10 mg/kg), methionine(1 g/kg) respectively, above basal supplementation levels. A fourth SBM-based diet(named B12/Fol/Met) was formulated with a combination of B12, folate, and methionine to attain the above-mentioned target concentrations. A fifth 60% SBM diet(named FWS) with methionine supplementation(1 g/kg above basal supplementation levels), enriched with taurine, lysine and threonine as well as minerals, was also tested. This diet contained formulation targets and additives which have allowed for replacing fishmeal with plant proteins in rainbow trout feeds. Control diets included a fishmeal-based diet(named FM), an unsupplemented basal 60% SBM diet(named SBM60), and a “natural” diet(named N) made up of equal parts of fish(cigar minnows), squid and shrimp as a positive reference for growth performance. Formulated feeds contained approximately 37% total crude protein, approximately 14% total crude lipid and were energetically balanced. polyethersulphone(pES)membranes modified with urethane functional groups were prepared through an interfacial reaction using electron beam *** removal of eight endocrine disrupting chemicals(EDCs)was studied using both pristine and functionalized pES *** prepared membranes underwent characterization using several techniques,including attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared(ATR-FTIR)spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy,contact angle analysis,and measurements of pure water ***,dynamic adsorption experiments were conducted to evaluate the adsorption mechanism of the prepared membrane toward the eight *** urethane functionalized membranes were hydrophilic(52°contact angle)and maintained a high permeate flux(26000 L/h m^(2) bar)throughout the filtration *** adsorption results demonstrated that the introduction of urethane functional groups on the membranes significantly enhanced the removal efficiency of 17β-estradiol,estriol,bisphenol A,estrone,ethinylestradiol,and *** adsorption loading of 17β-estradiol on the functionalized pES membrane was 6.7±0.7 mg/m^(2),exhibiting a 5-fold increase compared to the unmodified pES *** membranes were successfully regenerated and reused for three adsorption cycles without experiencing any loss of adsorption capacity.

Land use change and occupation have led to modifications in the environment causing loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services throughout the *** environments with high economic relevance,such as the ferruginous campo rupestre(rupestrian grassland known as Canga in Brazil),are even more susceptible to severe impacts due to their extreme habitat conditions and low *** determination of reference ecosystems based on the intrinsic characteristics of the ecosystem is essential for conservation as well as to the implementation of ecological *** proposed the reference ecosystem of the three main types of habitats of the ferruginous campo rupestre based on their floristic *** described the floristic composition of each habitat and evaluated the physicochemical properties of the soils and the relationship between plants and *** three habitats showed high diversity of plant species and many endemic species,such as Chamaecrista choriophylla,Cuphea pseudovaccinium,Lychnophora pinaster,and Vellozia *** distribution of vegetation was strongly related with the edaphic characteristics,with a set of species more adapted to high concentration of base saturation,fine sand,organic carbon,and iron,while another set of species succeeded in more acidic soils with higher S and silt *** provide support for the contention that the ferruginous campo rupestre is a mosaic of different habitats shaped by intrinsic local *** to recognize the floristic composition of each particular habitat can lead to inappropriate restoration,increased habitat homogenization and increased loss of biodiversity and ecosystem *** study also advances the knowledge base for building the reference ecosystem for the different types of ferruginous campo rupestre habitats,as well as a key database for highlighting those species contribute most to community assembly in this diverse and threatened tropical mountain ecosystem.

To the Editor : Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC) Stage C hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) with vascular invasion has been considered unresectable. However, the curative rate from systemic treatment is rather dismal. Even with the use of immunotherapy, complete remission is less than 10% [ 1 ]. On the contrary, recent advances in transplant oncology, especially in the application of liver transplant-related surgical techniques in complex liver resections, make the operation possible for patients with locally advanced HCC who were previously considered to be unresectable [ 2 ]. We hereby present the surgical management of a patient with giant HCC in right liver lobe with inferior vena cava(IVC) invasion.

The diagnostic approach to solid pancreatic masses has significantly evolved from the era when a focal pancreatic mass was almost synonymous to pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma,to a wide spectrum of pancreatic lesions,some of which have good *** the advent of advanced diagnostic tools,particularly refined imaging and tissue acquisition techniques,a broader spectrum of differential diagnoses has been recognized,encompassing conditions ranging from neuroendocrine tumors or inflammatory masses,to rare entities like metastatic clear cell sarcoma or solitary fibrous *** herein discuss case reports of some rare pancreatic lesions,which were diagnosed by combining clinical and imaging features and endoscopic ultrasound-guided tissue sampling and confirmed on surgical *** reports on these rare pancreatic tumors will contribute to a better understanding of their pathogenesis and effective management.

The semiarid grasslands of Argentina’s central region have been modified by domestic livestock grazing,both in their composition and *** increase in the proportion of woody and non-forage species and the decrease in forage species are some of the most evident results of this *** is limited available information about the effect of differential grazing pressures on morphometric attributes of native species,and it also depends on the life histories of the species in this *** objective of this work was to evaluate some morphometric aspects in the grasses poa ligularis Nees ex Steud and piptochaetium napostaense(Speg.).Hack according to distance from the water source in communities in the central semiarid region of *** study area included areas of low grassland,golden forests,and secondary forests in grasslands(6 fields with 9 paddocks).Grazing pressure was established based on the distance to the water source,so sampling areas were designated near the water source(grazing pressure is greater)and far from the water source(grazing pressure light)in each of the *** both species,specimens were selected at random,and the following attributes were measured:crown diameter at ground level(cm),burial depth(cm),average tiller weight per plant(***^(−1)),and the density of tillers per unit of crown surface(***^(−2)crown).The morphometric attributes evaluated showed differences according to the distance to the watering hole and in the different *** species presented similar behaviors for the *** were significant differences in the depth of burial and the average weight of tillers per plant,being greater in the areas close to the water *** the distance to the watering hole,there were no significant differences in crown diameter and tiller density,but the highest values were recorded for the former near the watering hole and for the second far from the watering *** pastures with low

Utilizing semantic-level computer vision for fracture trace characterization of hard rock pillars in underground space

This study utilizes a semantic-level computer vision-based detection to characterize fracture traces of hard rock pillars in underground *** trace images captured by photogrammetry are used to establish the database for training two convolutional neural network(CNN)-based models,i.e.,U-Net(University of Freiburg,Germany)and DeepLabV3+(Google,USA)*** code technology,polyline approximation algorithm,and the circular window scanning approach are combined to quantify the main characteristics of fracture traces on flat and uneven surfaces,including trace length,dip angle,density,and *** extraction results indicate that the CNN-based models have better performances than the edge detection methods-based Canny and Sobel operators for extracting the trace and reducing noise,especially the DeepLabV3+***,the quantization results further prove the reliability of extracting the fracture *** a result,a case study with two types of traces(i.e.,on flat and uneven surfaces)demonstrates that the applied semantic-level computer vision detection is an accurate and efficient approach for characterizing the fracture trace of hard rock pillars.

Aqueous Zn batteries are promising candidates for grid-scale renewable energy *** electrodes have been widely investigated and applied as anode materials for aqueous Zn batteries,however,they suffer from limited surface area and severe interfacial issues including metallic dendrites and corrosion side reactions,limiting the depth of discharge(DOD)of the foil electrode ***,a low-temperature replacement reaction is utilized to in-situ construct a three-dimensional(3D)corrosion-resistant interface for deeply rechargeable Zn foil ***,the deliberate low-temperature environment controlled the replacement rate between polycrystalline Zn metal and oxalic acid,producing a Zn foil electrode with distinct 3D corrosion-resistant interface(3DCI-Zn),which differed from conventional two-dimensional(2D)protective structure and showed an order of magnitude higher surface ***,the 3DCI-Zn electrode exhibited dendrite-free and anticorrosion properties,and achieved stable plating/stripping performance for 1000 h at 10 mA cm^(-2)and 10 mAh cm^(-2)with a remarkable DOD of 79%.After pairing with a MnO2cathode with a high areal capacity of 4.2 mAh cm^(-2),the pouch cells delivered 168 Wh L^(-1)and a capacity retention of 89.7%after 100 cycles with a low negative/positive(N/p)ratio of 3:1.
