BACKGROUND Superior mesenteric artery syndrome(SMAS)is a rare condition,characterized by duodenal obstruction caused by compression of its third part by the superior mesenteric artery(SMA).Most cases of SMAS are associated with weight loss,and the most frequent clinical manifestations are nausea,vomiting,postprandial fullness,and abdominal *** of SMAS is usually conservative,consisting mainly of adequate nutritional support,but in refractory cases surgery may be necessary,with gastrojejunostomy and duodenojejunostomy being the most commonly performed *** SUMMARY We describe the case of a man in his forties with a pre-existing diagnosis of esophageal stricture due to sodium hydroxide ingestion,who suffered significant weight loss after replacement of his jejunostomy *** was admitted to the hospital due to pain and abdominal distension.A computerized tomography scan showed significant distension of the stomach and duodenum with narrowing of the duodenum at the point at which it is crossed by the superior mesenteric artery,thus establishing the diagnosis of *** to the presence of the esophageal stricture,the patient was incapable of emesis;however,passage of a nasogastric tube for decompression was not *** the risk of gastric perforation due to distention,we opted for surgical treatment in the form of a surgical gastrojejunostomy after which he showed complete resolution of all symptoms and was discharged from the hospital 5 d after the *** Diagnosis of SMAS can be challenging in patients with esophageal stenosis,and risk of gastric perforation may preclude conservative treatment.

Fish, as one of the fishery resources, is an important constituent of the diet of the Amazon population, as it is the source of several nutritional components. The present work aimed to characterize the centesimal composition of Plagioscion squamosissimus fillet (n = 10) and Macrobrachium amazonicum meat (n = 82), species acquired in the estuarine region of the state of Amapá, Brazil. Carcass yield, as well as protein, water content, lipids and ashes was determined according to the methodologies proposed by the Adolf lutz institute, as well as carbohydrate and caloric determinations. The analyses were performed in triplicate per sample. After comparing with the literature, it was possible to conclude that P. squamosissimus presented a fillet yield of 31.11%± 0.61%, high protein content (15.99 ± 1.26 g/100 g) and humidity (79.40 ± 1.10 g/100 g), moderate contents of mineral residues (1.10 ± 0.07 g/100 g) and carbohydrates (0.96 ± 0.90 g/100 g), low lipid contents (2.29 ± 0.65 g/100 g), as well as low caloric values (385,018.12 J/100 g) and M. amazonicum a meat yield of 44.12%± 8.34%, high levels of protein (22.81 ± 1.72 g/100 g), carbohydrates (1.92 ± 1.61 g/100 g) and mineral residues (1.76 ± 0.78 g/100 g), moderate water content (73.38 ± 0.78 g/100 g), low lipid levels (0.43 ± 0.08 g/100 g), as well as low caloric values (440,786.3 J/100 g). The results obtained in this work can serve as a subsidy in nutritional diets for humans, thus allowing an adequate dietary use of these species.

SCAD （spontaneous coronary artery dissection） proves to be a pathology of several manifestations, whose clinical diagnosis is a challenge for emergency departments. Therefore, their early identification and knowledge of the various forms of presentation are mandatory for optimal medical therapy. We present a case report of a 45-year-old patient who was admitted to the coronary unit showing symptoms and laboratory tests compatible with myocardial infarction. Complete diagnosis was obtained only with more specific exams. The manifestations of the disease in the case described and the main features of the disease are discussed.

Secretory igA contributes towards the protection of mucosal surfaces against invading microorganisms. Objectives: Quantify secretory igA titers in the saliva of women with HPV in the oropharynx and/or in the genital area. Subjects and methods: Seventy women with clinical genital HPV lesions and 70 women without HPV infection were tested for oral HPV DNA and the levels of total igA in their saliva. One millilitre of saliva was collected, centrifuged and stored at- 80° C for the measurement of secretory igA by nephelometry technique. A pool of oral pharyngeal cells was collected for HPV identification by polymerase chain reaction. Results: Oral HPV PCR was positive in 29 (21% ) women (26 women with genital HPV and only 3 women without genital HPV). Titers of secretory igA were extremely lower in-patients with HPV DNA in the oropharynx when compared to HPV negative women (p ital HPV and smoking were also associated to low levels of total sigA in saliva (p ltivariable analyses only the presence of HPV in the oral cavity and/or in genital area, but not smoking, was related to low levels of total secretory igA. Conclusion: Women with low levels of total secretory igA could be more susceptible to having their oralmucosa colonized by HPV.

Dear editor,The national incidence of penile fracture in the United States is estimated as 1.02 per 100000 males[1].Nine to twenty percent of these injuries result in a concomitant urethral injury[2,3].barros et al.[4]reported that 85 out of 888 penile fractures men with penile fractures had concomitant urethral injuries[4].Among those with both a penile fracture and urethral injury,only two cases of urethral stricture were ***,only three percent of urethral strictures resulted from penile fractures[5].These data highlight the relatively low incidence of urethral stricture in patients with penile fracture and concomitant urethral injury.

AiM: To investigate the expression profiles of hsa-mi R-29 c and hsa-mi R-135 b in gastric mucosal samples and their values as gastric carcinogenesis biomarkers. METHODS: The expression levels of hsa-mi R-29 c and hsa-mi R-135 b in normal gastric mucosa, non-atrophic chronic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia and intestinaltype gastric adenocarcinoma were analysed using quantitative real-time PCR. The difference between hsa-mi R-29 c and hsa-mi R-135 b expression profiles in the grouped samples was evaluated by ANOVA and Student's t-test tests. The results were adjusted for multiple testing by using Bonferroni's correction. P values ≤ 0.05 were considered statistically significant. To evaluate hsa-mi R-29 c and hsa-mi R-135 b expressions as potential biomarkers of gastric carcinogenesis, we performed a receiver operating characteristic curve analysis and the derived area under the curve, and a Categorical Principal Components Analysis. in silico identification of the genetic targets of hsa-mi R-29 c and hsa-mi R-135 b was performed using different prediction tools, in order to identify possible genes involved in gastric ***: The expression levels of hsa-mi R-29 c were higher in normal gastric mucosal samples, and decreased progressively in non-atrophic chronic gastritis samples, intestinal metaplasia samples and intestinal-type gastric adenocarcinoma samples. The expression of hsa-mi R-29 c in the gastric lesions showed that non-atrophic gastritis have an intermediate profile to gastric normal mucosa and intestinal-type gastric adenocarcinoma, and that intestinal metaplasia samples presented an expression pattern similar to that in intestinal-type gastric adenocarcinoma. This study evaluated the effect of enriched artemia nauplii with commercial probiotic for angelfish larvae determining growth perfomance,survival and modulation of the intestinal ***,it experiment occurred in completely randomized design with five treatments(T1-0.0,T2-1.5,T3-3.0,T4-4.5 and T5-6.0g of commercial probiotic)and four replaces during 20 *** larvaculture,post larvae passed by biometric procedures to determine productive performance and then microbiological *** reduction of total heterotrophic bacteria while increased lactic acid bacteria in the intestinal tract from the post larvae for treatments T3,T4 and *** commercial probiotic also increased the survival and performance as final weight,weight gain and specific growth *** these reasons,the use of 3g of commercial probiotic promotes greater performance and intestinal modulation for angelfish larvae.
