A numerical simulation study of the performance of encoding and decoding of short optical pulse in OCDMA (Optical Code Division Multiple Access) systems under non-linear optical effects is presented. The performance of encoding and decoding short pulses is obtained through use of device FBG (fiber Bragg grating) where the codes are inserted through discrete jumps in the optical phase (±π). The multiuser interference is also the object of the present study, where a figure of merit (interference figure) is used to quantify the interference in multiuser auto and cross correlation. We evaluate the dependence of the multiuser interference for the coupling constant of FBG. Finally, the interference inserted in the autocorrelation due to nonlinear effects generated in the nonlinear switching of the coded pulse in a dual core nonlinear directional coupler is examined, where temporal broadening of pulses decoded is observed.

Spirulina platensis (SPi) is a microalga with a high content of functional compounds, such as phenolics, phycocyanins and polysaccharides that has been shown to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, neuro-protective and immunomodulatory effects. The objectives of the present work were to study the possible effects of SPi treatment on the glycemic-lipid profile, oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation and cardiac performance in diabetic rats. Diabetes was induced by streptozotocin (STZ) in male Wistar rats. in diabetic animals SPi, at a dose of 50 mg/kg/day, reduced lipid peroxidation, nitrite levels and lipids in plasma and tissues. SPi exhibited an effective improvement on +dP/dT and −dP/dT in non-diabetic rats. This study showed that SPi significantly suppressed nitrite generation and lipoperoxidation in the hearts of diabetic animals, as well as an improvement in the cardiac function in control SPi-treated rats which is consistent with several studies that demonstrated the protective effect of antioxidants on oxidative stress-mediated injury caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced in diabetic myocardial tissues.

Essential oils are secondary metabolites produced by plants, can be extracted from any organ such as： leaves, branches, roots, rhizomes, flowers, fruits, seeds, wood and stem bark. The present study aimed to analyze the compounds found in the essential oil of leafHancornia speciosa var. pubescens （C. Nees ＆ Mart.） MUll. Arg. （Apocynaceae）, popularly known as mangaba, and perform the soil chemical analysis of the occurrence of the same species. The oil was obtained by hydrodistillation in Clevenger from crushed leaves, their analysis was performed using the Shimadzu gas chromatograph model 2010 GC Ultra coupled to a mass spectrometer. The apofarnesol （48.45%）, naphthalene （4.84%）, ct-bisabolene （4.12%）, trans-i3-heptanone （2.34%）, spathulenol （1.48%）, cypermethrin were identified （1.35%） and malonic acid （1.34%）, which according to literature all these compounds have great insecticidal characteristics. Soil testing was performed according to the protocols of the S.l. Goi^nia/GO, which was found a soil poor in nutrient with acidic pH, these predominant features of the Cen：ado＇s soils, which can influence the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites. Concluding that Hancornia speciosa variety pubescens may have insecticidal activities.

Background: Dengue is a Neglected tropical disease (NTDs) with high incidence in Brazil. This disease is caused by Dengue virus and is transmitted by Aedes aegypti mosquito. The search for new approaches for controlling of this disease is the subject of numerous studies. The aaNAT is a key enzyme in the metabolism of A. aegypti and is crucial in the sclerotization process, as well as regulation of circadian rhythm and inactivation of neurotransmitters. Computational techniques applied to studies of biological systems become an effective weapon in the mapping and management of 3D data structures, giving direction and guidance of potential ligands that can form stable complexes with targets of interest, using a Molecular Docking approach. The present study was conducted by a virtual screening, followed by docking calculations, in order to find molecules that could inhibit aaNAT. in this study, we used available compounds in SAM database (Bioinformatics and Medicinal Chemistry laboratory—Southwest Bahia State University, Jequié-Bahia, Brazil), PubChem and ZiNC. Results: The result of dockings with selected ligands showed good energy affinities, presenting potential inhibitory interactions with the enzyme active site. Conclusions: The Coa-S-acetyl-tryptamine and 3-indoleacriloil-coenzyme-A showed the same binding energies -8.9 Kcal/Mol and were described as possible inhibitors of aaNAT.

Water Use in Sugar and Ethanol industry in the State of Sao Paulo(Southeast Brazil)

Brazil is the largest producer of ethanol from sugarcane in the world. While the ethanol industry is economically important to Brazil for several reasons, it also has a significant impact on the environment. Here we analyze the water consumptive use in the transformation of the feedstock (sugarcane) into ethanol and the impact of industrial byproduct effluents on water resources of the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Our estimates indicated that in the 2007-2008 harvest, 700 million m3 was withdrawn mainly from rivers and streams by 140 mills, and of this total 440 million m3 was consumed which yielded a water use of approximately 1.53 m3 ·water·tonˉ1 sugarcane or approximately 18 l·water·l-ˉ1 ethanol. At the same time, a total of 120 million m3 of vinasse by-product was produced in the state, equivalent to an organic load of approximately 3 billion kg·BOD during the harvest season or approximately 8 million kg·BOD·dˉ1. Although the water used by sugarcane mills has decreased in recent decades, it is still possible to further decrease the amount of water used by ethanol production. This would decrease the pressure on 1st order streams of the state from which most water is withdrawn. in addition, the enormous volume of vinasse production must be reduced because it exerts constant pressure on aquatic ecosystems, soil and groundwater due to the constant increase in the potassium (K) concentration in areas where it is used as a fertilizer.

Angiotensin-(1 - 7) [Ang-(1 - 7)] is an endogenous heptapeptide hormone of the renin-angiotensin system that has antiproliferative properties. The aim of this work was to evaluate the anti-proliferative and pro-apoptotic properties of Ang-(1 - 7) and of Ang-(1 - 7)-substituents 9-fluorenylmethyloxycarbonyl (Fmoc) e Ang ii-derivatives containing the TOAC (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-N-oxyl-4-amino-4-carboxylic acid) in normal (MCF10A) and in tumoral (MCF7) epithelial mammary cell lines. Both cell lines received an hCG and angiotensin peptides 24-hour treatment, in combination or alone followed by cell viability, apoptosis and cell cycle assays performed by flow cytometer (GUAVA). After hCG, Ang-(1 - 7), hCG + Ang-(1 - 7) and hCG + Ang-(1 - 7)-Fmoc treatments, MCF7 displayed cell viability decrease and mid-apoptosis increase. We also observed cell viability decrease in MCF10A after Ang-(1 - 7), Ang-(1 - 7) Fmoc and hCG + Angii Toac treatments. These cells had an increase in late apoptosis and necrosis after Angii Toac, hCG + Ang-(1 - 7) and hCG + Ang-(1 - 7)-Fmoc treatments. Regarding the cell cycle analysis, we did not observed any changes in cell cycle phases. in summary, cell viability was decreased and apoptosis (initial, mid and late) was increased after hCG and/or Ang-(1 - 7) peptides treatments. These results point out hCG and Ang-(1 - 7) as effective compounds to inhibit cell proliferation, since they decrease cell viability and increase apoptosis in both normal and in tumoral breast cells, being the effect more pronounced in the tumoral cell line. Our results support the idea of investigating more closely the putative use of these compounds as novel therapeutic agents for breast cancer.

The Aging Bladder in Females Evaluated by Urodynamics

Aim: To determine whether bladder functions deteriorate with age. Methods: Data contained in electronic medical record (iNFOMED?) were used in this institutional retrospective review. Analysis was done on the urodynamic studies in women over 18 years old conducted between May 2011 and November 2015. Patients with previous history of pelvic surgery or radiotherapy, neurological disease, vaginal prolapse greater than grade i, congenital urogenital malformations, urinary obstructive disease, diabetes, or the use of any medication that could interfere with bladder function were excluded from the analysis. The urodynamic parameters analyzed were the Maximum Cystometric Capacity (MCC), Voiding Volume (VV), Maximum Flow (Qmax), Bladder Compliance (BC), Detrusor Pressure at Maximum Flow (PdetQmax), Bladder Contractility index (BCi), Bladder Voiding Efficiency (BVE) and Post-Void Residual Urine Volume (PVR). Patients were further stratified in five groups according to age (A—18 to 40;B—41 to 50;C—51 to 60;D—61 to 70;E—over 70 years old). Results: Out of 3103 urodynamic studies analyzed, 719 were eligible for the study. The average age of patients was 49.3 (+13.2) years old and in all evaluated parameters, statistically significant correlation between age and decline of bladder function was obtained (p Conclusions: This study showed a decline in bladder storage function (reduction in MCC and BC) and in bladder emptying function (reduction in Qmax, PdetQmax, VV, BCi and BVE with an increase in PVR) with age.

Suicide risk in systemic lupus erythematosus:A narrative review

introduction:Despite the medical and scientific advances,the disease’s restrictions and the perception of personal and social losses related to its course reinforce fear and generate intense suffering in lupus *** comorbidities,especially major depressive episodes,are highly prevalent during systemic lupus *** them,suicide is a behavior that is much more common than we ***:To perform a narrative review on suicidal behavior associated with systemic erythematosus lupus(SlE).Results:Studies have shown an increased risk of suicide among patients with chronic diseases and psychiatric disorders,especially ***,suicide cannot be attributed only to a higher prevalence of depression and other mental ***,it is necessary to learn more about the suicide risk factors present in patients with lupus to work on secondary prevention and avoid the premature loss of lives and the additional suffering of families and surrounding *** coordination between the studies on suicidal behavior and its intricate network of individual and sociocultural factors and the studies on this multisystem autoimmune disease with a broad manifestation spectrum,lupus,creates new and essential field ***:Non-psychiatrist office-based physicians,health clinics,or wards dedicated to the treatment of SlE should recognize and handle the suicide risk factors on their patients to reduce the suffering caused by this disease.

可生物降解的金属材料是用于制造生物医学植入装置的有前途的材料[1-2]。近年来,可降解镁合金作为输尿管支架的适用性和体内相容性已通过动物试验得到初步证实[3]。尽管初步结果表明镁合金是制造输尿管支架的有前途的候选材料之一[4-5],但相关的研究基础尚不牢固。镁在尿道环境中的降解行为仍然没有被完全理解。本工作研究了人造尿液中镁合金的腐蚀机理,有助于更好地理解镁合金作为输尿管植入物的降解行为。经模拟尿液浸泡72小时后纯Mg和Mg-Zn丝材腐蚀后的横截面形貌如图1所示。Mg-1Zn丝材表现出严重的局部腐蚀(图1中的箭头所指(a1-a3))。纯Mg丝材中也存在局部腐蚀,但不如Mg-1Zn丝材明显。连续EiS测试是分析形成的腐蚀产物层的演变和屏障保护能力的有效方法。Mg-1Zn丝材和纯Mg丝材在模拟尿液中浸泡72小时的Bode图如图2所示。两个样品的初始Bode图(浸泡15分钟后)非常相似,由中频和低频时间常数组成。两个样本的低频阻抗模量在整个浸没期间逐渐增加。随着时间的增加,浸入24小时(纯Mg丝材)或48小时(Mg-1Zn丝材)后,在高频范围(10 kHz至100kHz内)会出现一个附加的时间常数。此后高频阻抗模量也随着高频时间常数的增加而逐渐增加。连续EiS证实了浸入模拟尿液期间两种Mg丝材上腐蚀产物的层状结构。输尿管支架是可生物降解镁合金的一个相对较新的应用领域。在这项研究中发现经模拟尿液浸泡后的Mg表面腐蚀产物具有两层结构:外层MgNHPO·6HO和内层Mg(OH)。具有一定保护性的外层MgNHPO·6HO产物减缓了Mg的腐蚀,但这一现象显示了裸Mg支架在泌尿系统环境中的结壳风险。
