Proton nuclear magnetic resonance-based metabonomic models for non-invasive diagnosis of liver fibrosis in chronic hepatitis C:Optimizing the classification of intermediate fibrosis

AiM To develop metabonomic models(MMs), using 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) spectra of serum, to predict significant liver fibrosis(SF: Metavir ≥ F2), advanced liver fibrosis(AF: METAViR ≥ F3) and cirrhosis(C: METAViR = F4 or clinical cirrhosis) in chronic hepatitis C(CHC) patients. Additionally, to compare the accuracy of the MMs with the aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index(APRi) and fibrosis index based on four factors(FiB-4). METHODS Sixty-nine patients who had undergone biopsy in the previous 12 mo or had clinical cirrhosis were included. The presence of any other liver disease was a criterion for exclusion. The MMs, constructed using partial least squares discriminant analysis and linear discriminant analysis formalisms, were tested by cross-validation, considering SF, AF and C. RESUlTS Results showed that forty-two patients(61%) presented SF, 28(40%) AF and 18(26%) C. The MMs showed sensitivity and specificity of 97.6% and 92.6% to predict SF; 96.4% and 95.1% to predict AF; and 100% and 98.0% to predict C. Besides that, the MMs correctly classified all 27(39.7%) and 25(38.8%) patients with intermediate values of APRi and FiB-4, respectively. CONClUSiON The metabonomic strategy performed excellently in predicting significant and advanced liver fibrosis in CHC patients, including those in the gray zone of APRi and FiB-4, which may contribute to reducing the need for these patients to undergo liver biopsy.

Hygienic and Sanitary Conditions of Eggs Commercialized in Town Fairs and Markets

High nutritional content coupled with low cost and ease of purchase justifies the frequent use of chicken eggs. Even with technological innovations in the production, storage, and distribution of eggs, food poisoning continues to occur. Therefore, in the present study, we 1) evaluated the microbiological profile and the hygienic and sanitary quality of eggs commercialized in town fairs and markets and 2) verified whether there is any correlation between microbiological results and commercialization conditions. Thirty-six samples were collected from six municipalities in the region of Rec?ncavo from Bahia, Brazil. The hygienic and sanitary conditions were analyzed by quantifying the total coliforms, E. coli, mesophilic and psychrotrophic microorganisms, molds, and yeasts, and by the presence of Salmonella sp. The observational analysis showed that 91% and 68% of the samples in town fairs and markets, respectively, did not comply with the requirements of the current Brazilian legislation. There was no significant difference in the microbiological profile among samples from the fairs and markets. Several samples presented relevant significant values, indicating inadequate hygienic conditions and fecal contamination. Salmonella sp. was found in one sample. There was co-relationship between microorganism count and the variables “external dirt”, “external stains”, and “closeness to other products”, with high concentrations of total coliforms and E. coli in the non-conforming samples. Although no limits exist for mold and yeast counts, the presence of fungi makes the product unfit for consumption. Thus, the commercialization of eggs would benefit from more attention and supervision by the relevant authorities.

This study was carried out in order to investigate the professionals’ feelings concerning the care in the Center for Children and Youth Psychosocial Care, as well as to evidence the advantages and difficulties of this work. This was a qualitative research guided by the social phenomenology of Al-fred Schütz. 13 health professionals from CAPSi between November 2008 and January 2009 were interviewed. We identified three categories: First feelings, difficulties of care and motivation for the care. The first category, awakened feelings, relates to the beginning of work with children and adolescents in CAPSi. The second motivation for the care, relates to the points highlighted as conducive to work. The third, difficulties in Caring for expressing the difficulties encountered in mental health of children and adolescents in CAPSi. We concluded that the care depends of knowledge, experience and service conditions in order to attend the needs of children and adolescents in CAPSi.

impact of Cluster Thinning on Quality of“Malbec”Grapes in Encruzilhada do Sul-RS

The cultivar Malbec has been present’s good performance and quality in the South Half of Rio Grande do Sul (RS). in this context, we aimed to evaluate the quality of “Malbec” grapes in relation to the phytotechnical, physicochemical parameters and bioactive compounds under different intensities of cluster thinning in Encruzilhada do Sul-RS. The experiment was carried out in a commercial vineyard in the 2015/16 with the cultivar Malbec (Vitis vinifera l.) under rootstock “1103 Paulsen”, with spacing of 2.2 m between rows and 1.1 m between plants. The experimental design was of randomized complete blocks with five replications. The treatment factor tested was the cluster thinning, with four levels (0%, 10%, 30% and 50%), performed in véraison. The evaluated phytotechnical variables were cluster length, cluster fresh weight, berries fresh weight, number of berries, rachis fresh weight. Also what were determined are the number of clusters, production and Ravaz index. The physicochemical variables verified were pH, soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (TA) and SS/TA ratio. The bioactive compounds were total polyphenols index and total anthocyanins. The appropriate balance between source and sink, by the Ravaz index, occurs to zero and 10% of cluster thinning. The “Malbec” grapes present an increase of the maturation index (SS/TA) at 50% of cluster thinning, due to the low titratable acidity at this level. The total polyphenols index has a larger increment when the plants are submitted to the cluster thinning of 10%, providing a larger quality to the fruits. At all the levels of cluster thinning tested, when compared to the control, there was a greater contribution of total anthocyanins in the berries.

Saturation levels by Bases and Time of incubation in the Development and Growth of Ornamental Sunflower

Floriculture is a promising segment of Brazilian agriculture. The ornamental sunflower (Helianthus annuus l. cv. Folded Sungold), also known as dwarf sunflower, in addition to being used in gardens can be marketed as cut flower or vase. The sunflower represents a great alternative for small producers because it requires little space, has easy handling and short cycle, besides providing greater economic return. in this context, we aimed to evaluate the development of this culture submitted to different levels of saturation per base, combined with the incubation time of the limestone. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse at the Federal University of Mato Grosso-University Campus of Rondonópolis. A randomized block design with factorial scheme 6 × 2 was used, with six levels of saturation per base: 0, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100%;and two incubation times: 0 and 30 days, resulting in 12 treatments with four replicates, totaling 48 experimental units. Each plot consisted of a plastic polyethylene vessel with a capacity of 1.2 dm−3. The following variables were analyzed: Height of the floral stem;number of leaves, diameter of chapters;root volume;fresh mass of leaves;fresh mass of floral stems;fresh mass of chapters;fresh root mass and chlorophyll index (SPAD). Data were submitted to analysis of variance by the test F at 5% probability of error. The qualitative factors were submitted to the Tukey test and quantitative factors to the regression test, both with a 5% probability of error. Basal saturation levels of 80% and 100%, in the treatment with incubated soil, provided higher quality of inflorescence for commercialization purposes.

The monitoring of water quality in large coastal regions demands great analytical efforts through the collection of many samples, over long periods. Remote sensing is a reliable tool that can provide valuable information on the spatial and temporal variations of environmental parameters, particularly turbidity and chlorophyll a. The aim of the present research was to evaluate the spatial and temporal distribution of water quality from 2005 to 2017 along the north coast of São Paulo and its responses to the implementation of industrial developments and to variations in rainfall. Fifty-two MODiS images were used, showing concentrations of chlorophyll a and turbidity, in the dry season and wet season, from 2005 to 2017. The results showed that dilution processes (due to rainfall) control chlorophyll a concentrations. However, a notable increase in concentrations could be identified after the installation of some of the developments in the region, particularly roads and ports. Turbidity was also shown to be affected by dilution processes, and during the wet season this parameter presented lower values. No effect in the results of turbidity could be identified from the installation of roads or ports, showing that vegetation cover exerts an important control on the erosional processes.

Synthesis and Characterization of laNixCo1-xO3 Perovskites via Complex Precursor Methods

This work presents a study on the synthesis of laNixCo1-xO3 perovskites via complex precursor methods. Perovskite oxides with the composition laNixCo1-xO3 were synthesized by chelating precursor and polymeric precursor methods using nickel and/or cobalt nitrates, lanthanum nitrate, ethylene glycol, citric acid, and EDTA as starting source. The obtained perovskite were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and the morphology of the samples were investigated by N2 adsorption experiments and average medium particle size. TG curves and FTiR spectra were particularly useful in establishing of the optimal calcination temperature of the precursor powders. X-ray diffraction patterns revealed the formation of the perovskite structure in all samples prepared by both synthesis method and after calcinations at 700℃. The results showed that the preparation method resulted in oxides with the intended structure. The specific surface area values were influenced by preparation method.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of blends of different oxygenated additives on gasoline in SI engine Otto cycle. The formulations analyzed were: pure gasoline (type A), common gasoline (type C), gasoline type A + 15% (v/v) oxygenated additives (ethanol, ethyl octanoate, ethyl oleate). The experiments were performed using engine Branco 4-stroke and 2-cylinder, electric dynamometer, exhaust system, control unit composed of Multi-K unit, variable selector and load cell, stroboscope tachometer, fuel supply system and stopwatch. The rotation was conserved at 4400 rpm and wheel power varied from 3 kW to 12 kW, with intervals of 3 kW to obtain hourly consumption curves and brake specific fuel consumption. Even esters and ethanol having lower heat of combustion, hourly consumption was similar to pure gasoline (type A). In relation to the brake specific fuel consumption, increasing the wheel power had a better conversion of the mass of fuel burned into energy. Thus, this study showed that the mixture of gasoline and esters (ethyl octanoate and ethyl oleate) presented good efficiency in terms of consumption. This research contributes to the needs and to the current studies in which industries started to add renewable products to petroleum-derived fuels;in order to obtain more sustainable fuels at lower costs.

HPV Vaccine: integrative Review of National and international Guidelines

HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is an adenovirus of the Papillomaviridae family with approximately 200 subtypes (subdivided into low and high oncogenic risk groups), responsible for almost 99% of cervical cancers. Worldwide, there are more than 570,000 new cases and more than 311,000 women die each year from cervical cancer;for Brazil, the estimate is of more than 16,000 new cases per year. it is known that cervical cancer is one of the most easily preventable forms of cancer, as there is a highly effective vaccine against HPV. However, the morbidity and mortality rates correlated with human papillomavirus are still concerning, especially in less developed countries. in 2020, the WHO (World Health Organization) presented three goals to achieve by 2030 the worldwide extermination of cervical cancer;among these goals is vaccination. is the world preparing for this battle? The present work is an integrative review, comparing national and international guidelines for HPV vaccination published in the last five years in the consulted databases, using the descriptors “cervical cancer”, “prevention” and “guideline” and the boolean operator “and”, from which nine articles were selected. The study made it possible to compare international and national guidelines for vaccination against HPV, showing that developed countries implemented the HPV vaccine longer ago and follow the WHO recommendations more rigorously and effectively than underdeveloped or developing countries. Adopting a single dose as a strategy, as suggested by the WHO in April 2022, could be an important step towards increasing coverage and providing protection for a greater number of girls who do not have access to HPV immunization.
