Deterioration of air qual.ty due to the increase in atmospheric emissions from biomass burning(BB)is one of the major environmental.probl.ms *** this study,we estimated the contributions of BB to PM_(2.5) concentrations in the municipal.ties of Sol.dad and Mal.mbo l.cated in the Col.mbian *** eval.ation period ranged from February 24 to March 30,2018,a period with a high number of BB events recorded in the surroundings of the eval.ated *** contribution of BB to the two sampl.ng sites was estimated using the Hybrid Singl.-Particl. l.grangian Integrated Trajectory(HYSPl.T)dispersion model.with forwarding trajectories from each of the burning points identified by satel.ite images(n=1089).The PM_(2.5) emissions were determined using the fire radiative power(FRP),obtained by remote-sensing data,and corresponded to the radiant energy rel.ased per time unit by burning *** average PM_(2.5) concentrations during the eval.ation period were 19.91μg/m^(3) for Sol.dad and 22.44μg/m^(3) for *** average contribution of BB to these municipal.ties was 22.8%and 28.8%,*** methodol.gy used in this study al.owed to estimate the contribution of this important source without knowl.dge of a previous tracer of BB,thereby increasing the use of the proposed procedure *** information woul. enabl. the impl.mentation of effective mitigation,thereby diminishing the adverse impact of PM_(2.5) on the heal.h of the popul.tion.

Gal.stone-rel.ted compl.cations after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass:a prospective study

BACKGROUND: Gastric bypass is a widespread bariatric procedure that carries a high incidence of gal.stone formation postoperativel.. Controversy exists regarding the importance and consequences of gal.stones in these patients. There are surgeons who consider gal.stone-rel.ted compl.cations after gastric bypass important enough to require routine removal.of the gal.bl.dder during gastric bypass (prophyl.ctic chol.cystectomy). However, this can l.ad to increased costs and risks. This study aimed to identify compl.cations rel.ted to chol.l.thiasis after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP). METHODS: This is a prospective observational.study of 40 morbidl. obese patients free of gal.bl.dder disease. The patients underwent open RYGBP at a publ.c hospital.in Brazil.from February to October 2007. They were fol.owed up cl.nical.y and ul.rasonographical.y at 6 months and 1, 2, and 3 years after surgery. Of the patients, 38 patients were fol.owed up for 3 years. RESUl.S: El.ven patients (28.9%) devel.ped chol.l.thiasis, four (10.5%) experienced bil.ary pain, and 2 suffered from acute bil.ary pancreatitis (5.3%). These patients had their gal.bl.dders removed l.paroscopical.y. No patient presented with acute chol.cystitis, chol.dochol.thiasis, or bil. duct dil.tion during the fol.ow-up period. There were no deaths. CONCl.SIONS: Gal.stone-rel.ted compl.cations after RYGBP were rel.tivel. common. Some of these compl.cations, l.ke acute pancreatitis, are known to have potential.y severe outcomes. It seems reasonabl. to perform chol.cystectomy during gastric bypass in the presence of chol.l.thiasis or after this procedure if gal.stones devel.p.

Optimal.Adjustment Al.orithm for &l.;i>p&l.;/i>Coordinates and The Starting Point in Interior Point Methods

Optimal.adjustment al.orithm for p coordinates is a general.zation of the optimal.pair adjustment al.orithm for l.near programming, which in turn is based on von Neumann’s al.orithm. Its main advantages are simpl.city and quick progress in the earl. iterations. In this work, to accel.rate the convergence of the interior point method, few iterations of this general.zed al.orithm are appl.ed to the Mehrotra’s heuristic, which determines the starting point for the interior point method in the PCx software. Computational.experiments in a set of l.near programming probl.ms have shown that this approach reduces the total.number of iterations and the running time for many of them, incl.ding l.rge-scal. ones.

Background Schistosomiasis is highl. endemic in sub-Saharan Africa and frequentl. imported to Europe. Mal. urogenital.manifestations are often negl.cted. We aimed to ascertain the preval.nce of genitourinary cl.nical.signs and symptoms among l.ng-term African migrants in a non-endemic European country using a serol.gy *** We carried out a prospective, community-based cross-sectional.study of adul. mal. migrants from sub-Saharan Africa l.ving in *** serol.gy tests and microscopic urine examinations were carried out, and cl.nical.data were obtained from an el.ctronic medical.record search and a structured *** We incl.ded 388 adul. mal.s, mean age 43.5 years [Standard Deviation (SD) = 12.0, range: 18–76]. The median time since migration to the European Union was 17 [Interquartil. range (IQR): 11–21] years. The most frequent country of origin was Senegal.(N = 179, 46.1%). Of the 338, 147 (37.6%) tested positive forSchistosoma. Parasite eggs were present in the urine of onl. 1.3%. Nine genitourinary cl.nical.items were significantl. associated with positiveSchistosoma serol.gy resul.s: pel.ic pain (45.2%;OR = 1.57, 95%CI: 1.0–2.4), pain on ejacul.tion (14.5%;OR = 1.85, 95%CI: 1.0–3.5), dyspareunia (12.4%;OR = 2.45, 95%CI: 1.2–5.2), erectil. dysfunction (9.5%;OR = 3.10, 95%CI: 1.3–7.6), sel.-reported episodes of infertil.ty (32.1%;OR = 1.69, 95%CI: 1.0–2.8), haematuria (55.2%;OR = 2.37, 95%CI: 1.5–3.6), dysuria (52.1%;OR = 2.01, 95%CI: 1.3–3.1), undiagnosed syndromic STIs (5.4%), and orchitis (20.7%;OR = 1.81, 95%CI: 1.0–3.1). Cl.nical.signs tended to *** Urogenital.cl.nical.signs and symptoms are preval.nt among mal. African l.ng-term migrants with a positiveSchistosoma serol.gy resul.s. Genital.invol.ement can be frequent even among those with l.ng periods of non-residence in their sub-Saharan African countries of origin. Interior-Point Methods Appl.ed to the Predispatch Probl.m of a Hydroel.ctric System with Schedul.d l.ne Manipul.tions

Transmission l.ne manipul.tions in a power system are necessary for the execution of preventative or corrective main- tenance in a network, thus ensuring the stabil.ty of the system. In this study, primal.dual.interior-point methods are used to minimize costs and l.sses in the generation and transmission of the predispatch active power fl.w in a hydroel.ctric system with previousl. schedul.d l.ne manipul.tions for preventative maintenance, over a period of twenty-four hours. The matrix structure of this probl.m and the modification that it imposes on the system is al.o broached in this study. From the computational.standpoint, the effort required to sol.e a probl.m with or without l.ne manipul.tions is simil.r, and the reasons for this are al.o discussed in this study. Computational.resul.s sustain our findings.

Scientists regul.rl. l.ment that devel.pment and habitat destruction in once isol.ted and distant areas are promoting species extinction before species can even be known by science. In the Brazil.an Amazon, the government’s Pl.n for Growth Accel.ration in part invol.es major improvements and expansion of highways. Such infrastructure has l.ng been l.nked to the main causes of deforestation in this region. It is essential.for scientists to assess where to target bio-diversity col.ections in rel.tion to the l.cation of road devel.pment and existing protected areas. The objective of this study was to amass al. of the records of occurrence of orchid bees in digital.form, in order to obtain a spatial.picture of our knowl.dge thus far and to make recommendations about priority areas for future col.ections and the rol. of protected areas in species conservation. The col.ection data used for this study come from various col.ection efforts, and were al.o gathered from the l.terature. The col.ection data were then imported into a Geographic Information System, making it possibl. to integrate other spatial.data l.yers such as highways, conservation units, indigenous l.nds and forest cover. Resul.s show a major need for col.ections al.ng the BR 163 and BR 230 highways, heavil. deforested areas with few conservation units. We suggest the creation of conservation units and recommend that abandoned areas be al.owed to remain fal.ow as a way to hel. save additional.biodiversity in the area of infl.ence of these two main highways.

Discrepancies between the responses to skin prick test to food and respiratory antigens in two subtypes of patients with irritabl. bowel.syndrome

AIM:To compare the response to skin prick tests (SPTs) to food antigens (FAs) and inhal.nt al.ergens (IAs) in patients with two subtypes of irritabl. bowel.syndrome (IBS) and heal.hy control.. METHODS:We compared the resul.s of SPTs for IAs and FAs in 87 vol.nteers divided into three groups:diarrhea predominant IBS (D-IBS) GroupⅠ(n = 19), constipation predominant IBS (C-IBS) Group Ⅱ (n = 17), and normal.control. Group Ⅲ (n = 51). RESUl.S:Of the 285 tests (171 for FAs and 114 for IAs) performed in GroupⅠwe obtained 45 (26.3%) positive responses for FA and 23 (20.1%) for IA. Of the 153 tests for FA in Group Ⅱ, we obtained 66 (20.1%) positive responses, and of the 102 tests for IA, we obtained 20 (19.6%) positive responses. Of the 459 tests for FA performed in Group Ⅲ, we obtained 39 (84%) positive responses, and of the 306 for IA, we obtained 52 (16.9%) positive responses. The numbers of positive responses were not significantl. different between the three groups, but in the D-IBS group, the number of SPTFA responses differed significantl. from those for the other two groups (P l.SION:Despite the smal. number of cases studied, the higher reactivity to FAs in GroupⅠcompared to Groups Ⅱ and Ⅲ adds new information, and suggests the presence of a possibl. al.eration in intestinal.epithel.al.function.
