Friction stir processing(FSP)can be used to im.rove surface *** this study,a m.dified m.thod of FSP called friction stir vibration processing(FSVP)was applied to develop a surface com.osite on AZ91 m.gnesium.*** this technique,the workpiece is vibrated norm.l to the processing *** results illustrated that com.ared with the FSP m.thod,the FSVP caused a better hom.geneous distribution of SiC particles in the *** results also showed that m.trix grains of friction stir vibration processed(FSV-processed)sam.les((26.43±2.00)μm.were finer than those of friction stir processed(FS-processed)specim.ns((39.43±2.00)μm..The results indicated that the ultim.te tensile strength(UTS)of FSV-processed specim.ns(361.82 m.a)was higher than that of FS-processed specim.ns(324.97 m.a).The higher plastic strain in the m.terial during FSVP,due to workpiece vibration,resulted in higher dynam.c recrystallization,and consequently,finer grains were *** elongation and form.bility index of the FSV-processed specim.n(16.88%and 6107.52 m.a·%,respectively)were higher than those of the FS-processed sam.le(15.24%and 4952.54 m.a·%,respectively).m.reover,the effects of FSVP were also found to intensify as the vibration frequency increased.

From.the Indian coast only lim.ted data are available on the benthic fauna of the seagrass com.unities. In this study, seasonal variation in the distribution of m.crobenthos and influence of environm.ntal param.ters was explored at four seagrass beds and two m.ngrove stations along the m.nicoy Island, Lakshadweep, India, from.Septem.er 1999 to August 2001. A total of 160 m.crobenthic species from.eight m.jor groups represented the m.crofauna of the m.nicoy Island. Of the identified taxa, m.lluscs 70（gastropods 41.46%, bivalves 7.5%）, polychaetes 27（16.88%）, crustaceans 30（18.75%）, echinoderm. 11（6.88%） and rem.ining others. Average seasonal abundance of benthic m.crofauna ranged from.219 to 711 ind./m., species diversity varied from.1.45 to 3.64 bits per individual, species richness index ranged from.4.01 to 26.17, evenness 0.69 to 1.66. In general, the higher abundance and species diversity was noticed in southern seagrass stations and northern seagrass stations, but in the m.ngrove stations com.aratively low species diversity was observed. Three-way analysis of variance indicated that all com.unities resulted as being significantly different between seagrass and m.ngrove station, m.inly when the seasonal interaction was considered. m.ltivariate analyses were em.loyed to help define benthic characteristic and the relationship between environm.ntal param.ters at the six m.nitoring stations. Results of cluster analyses and m.ltidim.nsional scale plot suggest that for m.ngrove region, different physiographic provinces, lower salinity, dissolved oxygen and sedim.nt biotic structure have a higher influence on the species com.osition and diversity than other oceanographic conditions.

In the electrochem.cal conversion of carbon dioxide, high currents need to be em.loyed to obtain large production rates, thus im.lying that m.ss transport of reactants and products is of crucial *** aspect can be investigated by em.loying a m.del that depicts the local environm.nt for the reduction reactions. Sim.ltaneously, electrochem.cal im.edance spectroscopy, despite being a versatile technique, has rarely been adopted for studying the m.ss transport features during the carbon dioxide(CO_(2))electroreduction. In this work, this aspect is deeply analyzed by correlating the results of im.edance spectroscopy characterization with those obtained by a bubble-induced m.ss transport m.deling under controlled diffusion conditions on a gold rotating disk electrode. The effects of potential and rotation rate on the local environm.nt are also clarified. In particular, it has been found that CO_(2) depletion occurs at high kinetics when the rotation is absent, giving rise to an increm.nt of the com.eting hydrogen evolution reaction. This feature reflects in an enlargem.nt of the diffusion resistance, which overcom.s the charge transport one.

We revise the notion of von Neum.nn regularity in JB^＊-triples by finding a new characterisation in term. of the range of the quadratic operator Q（a）. We introduce the quadratic conorm.of an elem.nt a in a JB^＊-triple as the m.nim.m.reduced m.dulus of the m.pping Q（a）. It is shown that the quadratic conorm.of a coincides with the infim.m.of the squares of the points in the triple spectrum.of a. It is established that a contractive bijection between JBW^＊-triples is a triple isom.rphism.if, and only if, it preserves quadratic conorm.. The continuity of the quadratic conorm.and the generalized inverse are discussed. Som. applications to C^＊-algebras and von Neum.nn algebras are also studied.

AIm. To determ.ne the prevalence and possible risk factors of Barrett＇s esophagus （BE） in patients with chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease （GERD） in EI m.nya and Assuit, Upper Egypt. m.THODS： One thousand consecutive patients with chronic GERD sym.tom. were included in the study over 2 years. They were subjected to history taking including a questionnaire for GERD sym.tom., clinical examination and upper digestive tract endoscopy. Endoscopic signs suggestive of colum.ar-lined esophagus （CLE） were defined as m.cosal tongues or an upward shift of the squam.colum.ar junction. BF was diagnosed by pathological examination when specialized intestinal m.taplasia was detected histologically in suspected CLE. pH was m.nitored in 40 patients. RESULTS： BE was present in 7.3% of patients with chronic GERD sym.tom., with a m.an age of 48.3 ± 8.2 years, which was significantly higher than patients with GERD without BE （37.4 ± 13.6 years）. Adenocarcinom. was detected in eight cases （0.8%）, six of them.in BE patients. There was no significant difference between patients with BE and GERD regarding sex, sm.king, alcohol consum.tion or sym.tom. of GERD. Patients with BE had significantly longer esophageal acid exposure tim. in the supine position, m.asured by pH m.nitoring. CONCLUSION： The prevalence of BE in patients with GERD who were referred for endoscopy was 7.3%. BE seem. to be associated with older age and m.re in patients with nocturnal gastroesophageal reflux.
