The study explores inequalities in the utilization of delivery care services in different administrative divisions in Bangladesh, by key socioeconomic factors. It estimates the extent of the relationship between women’s socioeconomic inequalities and their place of delivery during 2004 and 2007. Trends in relation to place of delivery in relation to residency and education over a period of thirteen years (1993-2007) have also been measured. The study analyzed the trends and patterns in utilization of institutional delivery care among mothers, using data from the Bangladesh Demographic Health Survey (BDHS) conducted during 1993-2007. The data was disaggregated by area of residence in different divisions in Bangladesh. Bi-variate analyses, concentration curves and multivariate logistic regression were employed in the analysis of the data. The study indicated slow progress in the utilization of institutional delivery care among mothers in Bangladesh between 1993 and 2007. Large variations in outcome measures were observed among the different divisions. Multivariate analyses suggested growing inequalities in utilization of delivery care services between different economic groups and parents with different educational levels. The use of institutional delivery care remains substantially lower among poor and less educated rural mothers in Bangladesh, irrespective of age and employment. Further studies are recommended to explore the specific causes relating to the non-utilization of institutional delivery care.

Assessing Farmers’ Perception of Soil Erosion Risk in Northern Jordan

Socioeconomic factors and farmer’s perception of soil erosion and conservation were examined with special reference to Wadi Kufranja catchment, northern Jordan. Field data were collected through a household field survey, and soil erosion loss was calculated and mapped using the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE), within a GIS/RS environment. In-situ field measurements of soil erosion were also conducted to assess splash, sheet and runoff soil erosion. The estimated potential average annual soil loss is 10 ton·ha-1 year for the watershed. 42.1% (5317. 23 ha) of the watershed area was estimated to have moderate soil loss (5 - 25 ton·ha-1·years -1). Soil erosion risk is severe to extreme over 31.2% (3940.56 ha) of the catchment, whereas the calculated soil loss is 25 - 50 and >50 ton·ha-1·year-1. The measured sheet and splash soil erosion in W. Kufranja was 10 ton·ha-1·year-1 from tillage land, and 3 ton·ha-1·year-1 from the fallow land, with an average ranges from 8 to 10 ton·ha-1·year-1. Similarly, the maximum measured soil erosion on the eastern margin of W. Kufranja was 12.7 ton·ha-1·year-1, while the minimum soil erosion was 2.9 ton·ha-1·year-1. The collected household socioeconomic/conservation data have been subjected to multivariate statistical analysis. Through factor analysis, the twenty one variables were reduced into four significant factors which account for 69.7% of the variation in the original variable. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that the total variance explained by three independent variables was 0.585 (R = 0.765, R2 = 0.585). Out of the total variance, forest clearance explained 34.7%, fallow land 7.7%, and land use/land cover 16.1% respectively. The Information and Communication Technologies play an important role in rural development. The Empowerment of rural communities is crucial for the development of the rural region. Bringing the people in the rural region in the mainstream of the digital technologies to access and adopt modern technologies is a major concern now. Rural Development implies both, the economic development of the people and greater social transformation using electronic governance (e-governance). In order to provide the rural people in Maharashtra with better prospects and opportunities for economic development, agricultural development and management, marketing management, increased participation of rural people in usage and adoption of information and communication technologies (ICTs) is envisaged. This paper aims to explore the nature, role and relevance of the Electronic/Digital Governance using ICTs and wireless technologies for agriculture and rural development in the rural regions. It also aims to study the impact of e-governance on rural development and methods for improving local environmental governance having regard particularly to the range of interests and actors involved in e-governance. The paper examines the current status of electronic governance in Jalgaon district in India. It focuses on development of the model using ICTs/wireless technologies for e-governance of Jalgaon district in Maharashtra state, India.

Wadi Kufranja catchment (126.3 km2), northern Jordan, was selected to estimate annual soil loss using the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE), remote sensing (RS), and geographic information system (GIS). RUSLE factors (R, K, LS, C and P) were computed and presented by raster layers in a GIS environment, then multiplied together to predict soil erosion rates, and to generate soil erosion risk categories and soil erosion severity maps. The estimated potential average annual soil loss is 10 ton·ha-1·year-1 for the catchment, and the potential erosion rates from recognized erosion classes ranged from 0.0 to 1850 ton·ha-1·year-1. About 42.1% (5317.23 ha) of the catchment area was predicted to have moderate risk of erosion, with soil loss between 5 - 25 ton·ha-1·year-1. Risk of erosion is severe to extreme over 31.2% (3940.56 ha) of the catchment, where calculated soil loss is 25 - 50 and >50 ton·ha-1·year-1. Apart from the gentle slopes of the alluvial fan (Krayma town and surroundings), the lower and the middle reaches of the watershed suffer from severe to extreme erosion risk. High terrain, slope steepness, removal of vegetation, and poor conservation practices are the most prominent causes of soil erosion.

The system performance has been analyzed for π/4 DQPSK mapping scheme, which is differential in nature and hence adding additional advantage. Performance evaluation with random data as well as some images has been taken. Channel modeling has been performed in multipath fading environment. For elaboration of the concept mathematical modeling has been implemented using computer simulation. In this paper, an attempt is made to know the capabilities of DHT-OFDM with non conventional mapping technique π/4 DQPSK.

Overexpression of Her1 (EGFR) in Gastric Cancer: A Saudi Regional Population Based Study

Background: Gastric cancer is one of the commonest malignant tumor worldwide. Its treatment remains a challenge for physicians. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitors have played a significant role in the management of solid malignancies including colorectal cancer. In this study we aimed to determine EGFR expression in gastric adenocarcinoma by standardized immunohistochemistry in a Saudi regional population based cohort and also to evaluate Ki-67 proliferating index and p-53 mutation status. Materials and Methods: Gastric carcinoma (GC) cases comprising surgical resection specimens and endoscopic biopsies, were selected, from the pathology archives of King Fahd Hospital of the University of Dammam (KFHU), spanning a time period of 6 years. The histological GC type was delineated according to Laurens classification and immunohistochemical (IHC) protein analysis for EGFR, Ki-67 and p-53 was carried out. Results: 42 cases of gastric GC were analyzed and EGFR overexpression was demonstrated in 4.76% of cases. Out of these 2.38% had membranous and the remaining demonstrated predominantly cytoplasmic along with focal membranous positivity. Ki-67 proliferation index ranged from moderate to high and p-53 mutation status was negative in these cases. Conclusion: Low EGFR expressivity could be reflective of regional variation in cancer characteristics. The study also highlights the inadequacy of the currently employed gastric EGFR interpretation criterions and stresses on development of standardized and uniform EGFR evaluation protocols tailored for gastric needs.

A mathematical model comprising of nonlinear reaction, diffusion, and convection mechanisms seen in natural and anthropogenic processes is numerically investigated here. It is proposed that a higher order numerical scheme of finite difference method be used in conjunction with an iterative approach in order to solve the nonlinear one dimensional convection-diffusion-reaction equation. To account for the wide variety of physical characteristics and boundary conditions, an iterative approach is presented that yields a reliable and precise solution every time. We examined the accuracy and operational efficiency of two distinct finite difference approaches. The efficiency of the system is determined by comparing the estimated results to the appropriate analytical solution by adhering to established norms. Coherence and convergence were analyzed for each approach. The simulation results demonstrate the efficacy and accuracy of these methods in solving nonlinear convection- diffusion-reaction equations. Convection-diffusion-reaction equation modeling is critical for employing the offered results in heat and mass transport processes.

Automatic classification of blog entries is generally treated as a semi-supervised machine learning task, in which the blog entries are automatically assigned to one of a set of pre-defined classes based on the features extracted from their textual content. This paper attempts automatic classification of unstructured blog entries by following pre-processing steps like tokenization, stop-word elimination and stemming;statistical techniques for feature set extraction, and feature set enhancement using semantic resources followed by modeling using two alternative machine learning models—the na?ve Bayesian model and the artificial neural network model. Empirical evaluations indicate that this multi-step classification approach has resulted in good overall classification accuracy over unstructured blog text datasets with both machine learning model alternatives. However, the na?ve Bayesian classification model clearly out-performs the ANN based classification model when a smaller feature-set is available which is usually the case when a blog topic is recent and the number of training datasets available is restricted.
