Response surface method for modeling the removal of carbon dioxide from a simulated gas using water absorption enhanced with a liquid-film-forming device

This paper presents the results from using a physical absorption process to absorb gaseous CO2mixed with N2using water by producing tiny bubbles via a liquid-film-forming device（LFFD）that improves the solubility of CO2in *** influence of various parameters—pressure,initial CO2concentration,gas-to-liquid ratios,and temperature—on the CO2removal efficiency and its absorption rate in water were investigated and estimated thoroughly by statistical polynomial models obtained by the utilization of the response surface method（RSM）with a central composite design（CCD）.Based on the analysis,a high efficiency of CO2capture can be reached in conditions such as low pressure,high CO2concentration at the inlet,low gas/liquid ratio,and low *** instance,the highest removal efficiency in the RSM–CCD experimental matrix of nearly 80%occurred for run number 20,which was conducted at 0.30 MPa,CO2concentration of 35%,gas/liquid ratio of 0.71,and temperature of 15℃.Furthermore,the coefficients of determination,R^2,were 0.996 for the removal rate and 0.982 for the absorption rate,implying that the predicted values computed by the constructed models correlate strongly and fit well with the experimental *** results obtained provide essential information for implementing this method properly and effectively and contribute a promising approach to the problem of CO2capture in air pollution treatment.

Settling and dewatering characteristics of granulated methane-oxidizing bacteria

We evaluated the settling ability and dewaterability of granulated methane-oxidizing bacteria （GMOB） after granulation using a continuous-flow reactor. A comparative analysis on settling and dewatering characteristics due to changes in sludge retention time （SRT, 10, 15 and 20 days） during cultivation of GMOB was conducted. In assessing dewaterability, the specific resistance to filtration （SRF） of activated sludge and GMOB was found to be 8.21×1013-2.38×1014 and 4.88 × 1012-1.98×1013 m/kg, respectively. It was confirmed that as SRT decreased, SRF of GMOB increased. In the case of bound extracellular polymeric substance （EPS）, activated sludge registered 147.5 mg/g-VSS while GMOB exhibited 171-177.2 mg/g-VSS. In the case of extracellular polymeric substance soluble EPS in effluent, activated sludge measured 62 mg/L and GMOB had 17.4-21.4 mg/L. The particle size analysis showed that mean particle diameters of GMOB were 402, 369, and 350 μm, respectively, at SRTs of 20, 15 and 10 days. In addition, it was found that GMOB had a larger mean particle diameter and exhibited much better settleability and dewaterability than activated sludge did.

Polythiophenes(PTs)are prospective polymer donors for large-scale manufacturing and industrialization owing to their simple structures and low synthetic ***,the fabrication of PT solar cells depends on highly toxic chlorinated solvents,and less research has been done on the use of more environmentally friendly non-halogenated ***,highly efficient PT solar cells based on top-performance polythiophene,P5TCN-F25,processed from a non-halogenated solvent are reported by delicate aggregation control.A power conversion efficiency of up to 15.68%was achieved by depositing the active layer from a hot o-xylene solution,which is the record efficiency of non-halogenated processed PT solar cells up to *** appropriate solution temperature is beneficial to the formation of ordered polymer stacking and desirable phase separation size,which thereby contributes to enhanced charge transfer efficiency,more balanced hole/electron mobility,and reduced trap-assisted *** results provide valuable implications for improving the efficiency of PT solar cells via environmentallyfriendly processing.

Induced noise of impeller stuck and passive rotation state in multi-stage pump without power drive under natural flow conditions

The natural flow cooling strategy is commonly employed in modern high-speed vessels and nuclear-powered submarines. These vessels rely on the energy generated by their own speed to drive the cooling system and supply cooling water to the condenser. The circulating pump, which operates without a motor drive under natural flow conditions, is a large resistance component in the cooling system. However, it is also the primary noise source, significantly impacting the vessel’s safe operation and acoustic stealth performance. This study investigates the induced noise characteristics of a multi-stage pump under natural flow conditions by experiment, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and acoustic finite element method. The analysis encompasses the distribution of the flow field, variations in acoustic power, spectral features of flow-induced noise, and directivity of external field radiation noise under different natural flow conditions. The results show that the acoustic power distribution is correlated with the flow field. When the impeller is stuck, the noise sources primarily concentrate in the flow separation area at the blade’s leading edge, the interface area between the impeller and the guide vane, and the flow shock area inside the guide vane. Conversely, when the impeller rotates passively, the blade wake area has a higher acoustic power. The flow noise spectrum under natural flow conditions mainly exhibits broadband and discrete characteristics. Additionally, the pump structure influences the external field radiation noise, and its directivity varies with different flow rates and characteristic frequencies. This study provides valuable insights into optimal design to reduce the noise of the circulating pump in the vessel’s natural flow cooling system. It is essential for ensuring the safe operation and acoustic stealth performance of high-speed vessels and nuclear-powered submarines.

Tailoring of Mechanical Properties of Indirect Hot Stamping Steel Tubes by Laser Assisted Local Rapid Heating

The effect of laser assisted local heating on the mechanical properties of a hot stamping steel tube was in vestigated. A heated region with a spiral shape was generated on the surface of the tube by combining the linear movement of the laser and the rotation of the tube. The results of axial crush tests show that the laser assisted local heating can be effectively used to modify the mechanical performance of the tube. A microstructural analysis confirms that the laser locally induces a martensitic phase transformation in the heated region and results in inhomogeneous microstructures alon- the length of the tube.

Rapid building damage assessment system using mobile phone technology

One common scenario during disasters such as earthquakes is that the activity of damage field reconnaissance on site is not well-coordinated. For example in Italy the damage assessment of structures after an earthquake is managed from the Italian Emergency Authority, using printed forms （AeDES） which are filled by experts on site generating a lot of confusion in filling and transferring the forms to the Disaster Management Operative Center. Because of this, the paper explores the viability of using mobile communication technologies （smart phones） and the Web to develop response systems that would aid communities after a major disaster, providing channels for allowing residents and responders ofuploading and distributing information, related to structural damages coordinating the damage field reconnaissance. A mobile application that can be run by residents on smart phones has been developed, to give an initial damage evaluation of the area, which is going to be very useful when resources （e.g. the number of experts is limited）. The mobile application has been tested for the first time during 2012 Emilia earthquake to enhance the emergency response, showing the efficiency of the proposed method in statistical terms comparing the proposed procedure with the standard procedure.

Dynamic recrystallization behavior and microstructural evolution of Mg alloy AZ31 through high-speed rolling

High-speed rolling （HSR） is known to improve the workability of Mg alloys significantly, which makes it possible to impose a large reduction in a single pass without fracture. In the present study, dynamic recrystallization （DRX） behavior and microstructural and textural variations of Mg alloy AZ31 dur-ing a HSR process were investigated by conducting rolling with different imposed reductions in the range of 20%-80% at a high rolling speed of 470 m/min and 400℃. High-strain-rate deformation during HSR suppresses dislocation slips but promotes twinning, which results in the formation of numer-ous twins of several types, i.e., {10-12} extension twins, {10-11} and {10-13} contraction twins, and {10-11}-{10-12} double twins. After twinning, high strain energy is accumulated in twin bands because their crystallographic orientations are favorable for basal slips, leading to subsequent DRX at the twin bands. Accordingly, twinning activation and twinning-induced DRX behavior play crucial roles in accommodating plastic deformation during HSR and in varying microstructure and texture of the high- speed-rolled （HSRed） sheets. Area fraction of fine DRXed grains formed at the twin bands increases with increasing rolling reduction, which is attributed to the combined effects of increased strain, strain rate, and deformation temperature and a decreased critical strain for DRX. Size, internal strain, and texture intensity of the DRXed grains are smaller than those of unDRXed grains. Therefore, as rolling reduction increases, average grain size, stored internal energy, microstructural inhomogeneity, and basal texture intensity of the HSRed sheets gradually decrease owing to an increase in the area fraction of the DRXed grains.

A Principle of Producing Multi-ply Paper Using a Wire in an Inclined Wire Machine

In this study,we improved the dispersibility of the stocks in the headbox of an inclined wire machine to produce a distinct paper,and analyzed some factors affecting paper formation in the production of multiply *** used FLUENT6.3 to analyze the flow of the stocks in the headbox and select the structure of the diffusion part required for improving the dispersibility of ***,based on a simulation experiment,the optimal rational angle of the diffusion part(g)was found to be approximately 8°~10°,and it improved the paper formation in the case of usage of two *** the equation for the formation of paper layers in the headbox of an inclined wire machine,we obtained a paper with the given basic weight by controlling the inclined angle of the wire(a),initial height of water(H),and concentration of the *** considered the effect of a and H of the stocks in the headbox on the fiber distribution,and according to the results,a should be set as approximately 20°~30°and H should be maximally *** producing multi-ply paper by a wire,the line pressure of the couch roll should be maintained at 1.8~2.0 kN/m to avoid the damage to the paper *** addition,we found the optimal structure parameter of the dehydrated roll was as follows:hole ratio of approximately 30%of the dehydrated roll surface area,width of 1.5~2.0 mm,slot pitch of 5~6 mm,slot depth of 2~3 mm,and inclined angle of diffusion part(b)of 5°.
