Aim： To investigate the antioxidant effects of Morinda officinalis （Morindae radix, MR） on H2O2-induced oxidative stress in cultured mouse TM3 Leydig cells. Methods： We carried out 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging, 3-（4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl）-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, lipid peroxidation, testosterone enzyme immunoassay, superoxide dismutase （SOD）, and catalase （CAT） assays in Leydig TM3 cells. Results： MR showed a 47.8% 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging effect in TM3 cells with no significant cytotoxicity. Oxidative stress was induced in TM3 cells with 100 μmol H2O2, and treatment of the cells with 250 μg/mL MR showed the most significant protective effect （64%, P 〈 0.001） in the cell viability assay with a decreased lipid peroxidation level （1.75 nmol/mg protein, P 〈 0.05）, increased testosterone production （43.5 pg/mL）, and improvements in SOD activity （7.49 units of SOD/mg protein, P 〈 0.001） and CAT activity （74.6 units of CAT/mg protein, P 〈 0.001）. Conclusion： These findings indicate that MR, as an antioxidant, protects functions of cultured mouse TM3 Leydig cells from H2O2-induced oxidative stress.

A novel fabrication method for lensed fiber array has been proposed utilizing UV-curable fluorinated polymer, whose refractive index is matched to fused silica. The structure is composed of three segments; single mode fiber, coreless silica fiber and UV-curable polymer lens-tip. Flexible control of the curvature of lens-tip was realized by control of deposited volume of the liquid polymer and free-space interconnection performances are characterized.

Climatic extremes such as drought have becoming a severe climate-related problem in many regions all over the world that can induce anomalies in vegetation condition. Growth and CO2 uptake by plants are constrained to a large extent by ***, it is important to understand the spatial and temporal responses of vegetation to drought across the various land cover types and different regions. Leaf area index(LAI) derived from Global Land Surface Satellite(GLASS) data was used to evaluate the response of vegetation to drought occurrence across Yunnan Province, China(2001-2010). The meteorological drought was assessed based on Standardized Precipitation Index(SPI)values. Pearson's correlation coefficients between LAI and SPI were examined across several timescales within six sub-regions of the Yunnan. Further, the drought-prone area was identified based on LAI anomaly values. Lag and cumulative effects of lack of precipitation on vegetation were evident, with significant correlations found using 3-, 6-, 9-and 12-month timescale. We found 9-month timescale has higher correlations compared to another *** 29.4% of Yunnan's area was classified as drought-prone area, based on the LAI anomaly values. Most of this drought-prone area was distributed in the mountainous region of *** the research, it is evident that GLASS LAI can be effectively used as an indicator for assessing drought conditions and it provide valuable information for drought risk defense and preparedness.

The extracts of Prunella vulgaris L. (Labiatae), a popular Western and Chinese herbal medicine, was shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which might be due to partially, their rosmarinic acid content. Inhition of prostaglandine E2 (PGE2) production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulated RAW264.7 mouse macrophage cells was assessed with an enzyme immunoassay (EIA) following 8-hour treatments with Prunella vulgaris extracts or fractions. Results showed that 95% ethanol extracts from P. vulgaris significantly inhibited PGE2 production. In further studies, fraction 2 from the 95% ethanol extract of P. vulgaris significantly reduced PGE2 production at 66 μg/ml (72% reduction). Cytotoxic-ity did not play a role in the noted reduction of PGE2 seen in either the extracts or fractions from P. vulgaris. High performance liquid chromatography analysis showed that there was 1.4 mM rosmarinic acid in 95% ethanol Prunella extract (201 mg/ml crude extract). Our results suggest that rosmarinic acid may contribute toward the anti-inflammatory activity of Prunella in a dose-response manner. Prunella might have a potential to be used as a functional food for anti-inflammatory activity.

Is Seeing Believing？A Critical Analysis of Japanese Colonial Photographs of Korea

In order to assess Roland Barthes＇ argument that interpretation of photography depends on cultural codes embeddedtherein, a collection of photos from the Japanese Government-General of Ch6sen （GGC）, which controlled Korea1910-1945, were examined. These colonial images and associated text, commonly in English, were aimed primarilyat the West, with which the Japanese sought alignment. Of the three common categories of GGC photos, ＂scientific＂or ＂anthropological＂ images corresponded with portrayals by Western colonial powers of the supposed inferiornature of subjugated peoples and cultures. Individuals in such pictures tend to lose their identities and are reducedto a stereotype, less human than the observer. ＂Before and after＂ photos depicted alleged GGC progress in suchareas as education and infrastructure. Pictures of ＂happy colonial subjects＂ conveyed an impression of Koreansenjoying the benevolence of the new administration. While this photojournalism favorably impressed someWesterners, others employed images of the 1919 Korean uprising, and its suppression, to discredit the *** overall assessment demonstrates the polemical manipulation of photography.

Taking into account the increasing volume of text documents,automatic summarization is one of the important tools for quick and optimal utilization of such *** summarization is a text compression process for producing a shorter document in order to quickly access the important goals and main features of the input *** this study,a novel method is introduced for selective text summarization using the genetic algorithm and generation of repetitive *** of the important features of the proposed summarization is to identify and extract the relationship between the main features of the input text and the creation of repetitive patterns in order to produce and optimize the vector of the main document features in the production of the summary document compared to other previous *** this study,attempts were made to encompass all the main parameters of the summary text including unambiguous summary with the highest precision,continuity and *** investigate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm,the results of the study were evaluated with respect to the precision and recall *** results of the study evaluation showed the optimization the dimensions of the features and generation of a sequence of summary document sentences having the most consistency with the main goals and features of the input document.

****The administrative title‘scribe of the necropolis’(sS n p#Xr1)is a well-known and well-studied aspect of New Kingdom scholarship.2 For the duration of the royal necropolis at Thebes(1550–1069 BCE.),today known as the Valley of the Kings,the scribe of the necropolis was responsible for keeping daily accounts of the work undertaken at the site,and supplying and distributing rations for the general *** duties are also documented including the delivery of goods and supplies to the village of Deir el-Medina,home of the necropolis workers and their families.3 Throughout the almost four-hundred year period of activity at the Theban Necropolis during the New Kingdom,the official records are full of references to scribes in various contexts.

Yb3+/Ln3+(Ln=Er/Tm/Ho)-α-sialon ceramics were fabricated by hot press sintering *** microstructure and luminescent properties were studied by XRD,EDS,HRTEM and photoluminescence *** results showed that the sintered ceramics consisted ofα-Sialon with a trace amount ofβ-Sialon *** frequency upconversion and downconversion properties of Yb3+/Ln3+(Ln=Er/Tm/Ho)-α-Sialon ceramics were investigated under 980 nm low-power *** different concentrations of Yb3+/Ln3+(Ln=Er/Tm/Ho)produced multicolor emissions characteristics of each Ln3+ion as a result of the energy transfer from Yb3+to Er3+,Tm3+and Ho3+*** EDS spectra measurements and mappings showed that the Ln3+ions were well incorporated in theα-Sialon *** evolution of the emission decay behavior has been investigated to understand the energy transfer mechanism.

Fibromyalgia(FM) has been described as a chronic clinical condition related to multisensory hypersensitivitypresenting with a complex of symptoms dominated by chronic widespread pain associated with the existence of a range of co-morbidities, such as fatigue, sleep disturbance, cognitive impairment, anxiety and depression. Current treatments include drugs that target serotonin and noradrenaline levels within the central nervous system, e.g., tricyclic antidepressants, serotonin noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors, and voltage-gated calcium channel subunit ligands, e.g., gabapentin and pregabalin. Investigation of a range of novel targets, such as melatoninergic, cannabinoid, dopamine, NMDA, angiotensin, orexin and opioid receptors, and ion channels, in addition revisiting bioamine modulation and subunits has provided efficacy outcomes that improve the health status of patients with FM. Nevertheless, modest and limited efficacy is often observed reflecting the heterogeneity of FM with existence of subpopulations of patients, the contribution of peripheral and central components to the pathophysiology, and the extensive range of accompanying co-morbidities. The complexity and multidimensional nature of FM is emphasized by the diversity of pharmacological targets gaining interest. Clues to underlying mechanisms which offer themselves as novel and potential targets for new medications are being provided by advances in the understanding of the pathophysiology of FM.
