Based on the Yamamoto's soil model by considering the Coulomb friction effects, the wave-induced seabed instability has been investigated. An analytical solution is derived for soil response of a finite depth seabed tinder surface water wave. The effects of wave parameters and soil characteristics on the seabed instability are addressed for three types of soil. Finally, the roles of Coulomb friction stability are then analyzed as well.

Motivated by the observation that firms invest in carbon emissions reduction to decrease the cost of carbon tax as governments in numerous countries increasingly implement carbon tax to improve the environment,and broad researcher and practitioner agreement that carbon tax implementation always benefits the ***,we find that a carbon tax may actually hurt the environment based on a stylized game model with a better-informed retailer(one who controls the demand information sharing with the manufacturer)and a *** particular,we find that the carbon emissions reduction may harm the environment if the carbon tax is moderate or both the carbon tax and the demand fluctuation are *** further reveal free-riding behavior by the retailer,who may enjoy more profit sharing from the supply chain in the presence of carbon emissions *** on these observations,we argue that a carbon tax does not always benefit the environment when a manufacturer who receives demand information from the retailer responds better to market uncertainty.

The Dirichlet problem for a quasilinear sub-critical inhomogeneous elliptic equation with critical potential and singular coefficients, which has indefinite weights in RN, is studied in this paper. We discuss the corresponding eigenvalue problems by the variational techniques and Picone＇s identity, and obtain the existence of non-trivial solutions for the inhomogeneous Dirichlet problem by using Hardy inequality, Mountain Pass Lemma in conjunction with the property of eigenvalues.

The novel idea that spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and an s-wave pairing system can lead to induced pwave pairing with a strong magnetic limit, has stimulated widespread interest in searching for Majorana fermions (MFs) in semiconductor-superconductor hybrid structures. However, despite major advances in the semiconductor nanotechnology, this system has several inherent limitations that prohibit the realization and identification of MFs. We overcome these limitations by replacing the s-wave superconductor with the type-II Fulde-Ferrell (FF) superconductor, in which the center-of-mass momentum of the Cooper pair renormalizes the in-plane Zeeman field and chemical potential. As a result, MFs can be realized in semiconductor nanowires with small values of the Landé g-factor and high carrier densities. The SOC strength directly influences the topological boundary;thus, the topological phase transition and associated MFs can be engineered by an external electric field. Theoretically, almost all semiconductor nanowires can be used to realize MFs by using the FF superconductor. However, we find that InP nanowire is more suitable for the realization of MFs compared to InAs and InSb nanowires. Thus, this new scheme can take full advantage of the semiconductor nanotechnology for the realization of MFs in semiconductor-superconductor hybrid structures.

A comparative study of the aromaticity in some typical conjugated six-membered rings by the method of localized molecular orbital

The localized molecular orbitals and energy levels for four typical conjugated six-membered ring systems C_6H_6, C_3N_3H_3, B_3N_3H_6, and (B_3O_6)^(3-) as well as a non-aromatic reference molecule N_3Cl_6 have been calculated by using Edmiston-Ruedenberg energy localization technique under the CNDO/2 approximation in order to investigate the nature of aromaticity or quasi-aromaticity of the six-membered ring systems studied. The contour maps for π-type localized MO's (LMO) have been plotted to illustrate the bonding characteristics of the five ring systems studied. These LMO calculations show that for all the conjugated six-membered ring systems considered there exists local delocalization of π-bonds or three-centered and occasionally four-centered two-electron π-bonds in our terminology, and the cooperative effect among these π-bonds leading to the formation of a closed continuous x-conjugation system around the ring, which is necessary for the creation of aromaticity in the systems studied. We have been able to discuss the properties of these three-centered π-bonds in terms of the constituent atoms and electrons and the relevant orbitals involved.

The structural, electronic, elastic, mechanical properties and stress-strain relationship of chair, boat, and stirrup conformers of fully hydrogenated h-BN(fh-BN) are investigated in this work using the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof(PBE) function in the frame of density functional theory. The achieved results for the lattice parameters and band gaps of three conformers in this research are in good accordance with other theoretical results. The band structures of three conformers show that the chair, boat, and stirrup are direct band gap with a band gaps of(3.12, 4.95, and4.95 e V), respectively. To regulate the band structures of fh-BN, we employ a hybrid functional of Heyd-ScuseriaErnzerhof(HSE06) calculations and the band gaps are 3.84(chair), 6.12(boat), and 6.18 e V(stirrup), *** boat and stirrup fh-BN exhibits varying degrees of mechanical anisotropic properties with respect to the Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio, while the chair fh-BN exhibits the mechanical isotropic properties. Furthermore, tensile strains are applied in the armchair and zigzag directions related to tensile deformation of zigzag and armchair nanotubes,respectively. We find that the ultimate strains in zigzag and armchair deformations in stirrup conformer are 0.34 and0.25, respectively, larger than the strains of zigzag(0.29) and armchair(0.18) deformations in h-BN although h-BN can surstain a surface tension up to the maximum stresses higher than those of three conformers of fh-BN. Furthermore, the band gap energies in three conformers can be modulated effectively with the biaxial tensile strain.

The reactions of 2,3-dihydro-1,5-benzothiazepines with ethoxyearbonylcarbene undergo complex rearrangements to produce rlng-opening and ring contraction products. Previously it was presumed that the different products were formed via different mechanisms depending on the kind of substituents at the 2-position of 1,5-benzothiazepines. However, on the basis of the further detailed investigation, it was found that all 1,5-benzothiazepines can undergo the same rearrangement to yield both ring-opening and ring contraction products.
