We evaluated the growth and crown traits of 36 poplar clones at two d.s.inct agro-climatic regions of Punjab （Ludhiana and Bathinda） in northwestern India, following randomized block d.s.gn with three replications and plot size of four trees. significant differences among clones （p〈0.001） were observed for diameter at breast height （dBH）, tree height, volume, crown width and number of branches under both the site conditions. Clones ‘G-3’, ‘25-N’ and ‘41-N’ at Ludhiana and ‘G-3’, ‘Rd-01’ and ‘s7C8’ at Bathinda were found to be superior for volume production. All growth and crown traits registered.s.gnificantly higher values at Ludhiana in comparison to those at Bathinda. Clone site interaction was also significant （p〈0.001）. For volume, clones ‘L-62/84’, ‘113520’, ‘25-N’ and ‘s4C2’ witnessed huge fluctuations in ranking between sites. The correlations between growth traits were positive and highly significant （p〈0.001） at both sites. The clonal mean heritability was moderate for dBH and volume both at Ludhiana （0.61–0.66） and Bathinda （0.61–0.62）. Across sites, the genetic advance was the highest for volume （49.76%） and the lowest （6.50%） in case of height.

Bio-inspired helicoidal composite laminates, inspired by the intricate helical structures found in nature, present a promising frontier for enhancing the mechanical properties of structural d.s.gns. Hence, this study provid.s.a comprehensive investigation into the nonlinear free vibration and nonlinear bending behavior of bio-inspired composite plates. The inverse hyperbolic shear deformation theory(IHsdT) of plates is employed to characterize the d.s.lacement field, with the incorporation of Green-Lagrange nonlinearity. The problem is modeled using the C0finite element method(FEM), and an in-house code is developed in the MATLAB environment to solve it numerically. Various helicoidal layup configurations including helicoidal recursive(HR), helicoidal exponential(HE), helicoidal semi-circular(Hs), linear helicoidal(LH), and Fibonacci helicoidal(FH)with different layup sequences and quasi-isotropic configurations are studied. The model is validated, and parametric studies are conducted. These studies investigate the effects of layup configurations, side-to-thickness ratio, modulus ratios, boundary conditions, and loading conditions at different load amplitud.s.on the nonlinear vibration and nonlinear bending behaviors of bio-inspired composite plates. The results show that the laminate sequence exerts a substantial impact on both nonlinear natural frequencies and nonlinear bending behaviors. Moreover, this influence varies across different side-to-thickness ratios and boundary conditions of the bio-inspired composite plate.

santalum album （Indian sandalwood） is found in the mountainous regions of the intermediate zone of sri Lanka. Few studies have been conducted on sandalwood ecology in this region, and ours is the first recorded.s.udy of essential oil content and chemical composition of heartwood. We harvested two trees with state permission and took cross-sections for analysis. We demonstrated a difference in the heartwood formation and oil yield of the trees. The composition of the oil was found to be consistent between trees and along the trunk of the tree. Main aromatic compounds were santalols and other compounds are recorded in lesser quantities. Results of this study comply with the other published work on sandalwood elsewhere. This initial study on s. album in sri Lanka provided promising results for the future of sandalwood agroforestry.

Laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry （LA-ICP-Ms） has been widely adopted for the direct multi-elemental analysis with high sensitivity. Especially analysis of fine ceramics by LA-ICP-Ms without time-consuming sample decomposition process has been one of the most expecting application field. small additive elements in MgO powders were analyzed by LA-ICP-Ms. For precise and accurate analysis influence of carrier gas （Ar or He） was presented by the signal intensities of ICP-Ms, relative standard deviation of signal intensities and ablated particle size d.s.ribution. Ablated particles were collected and analyzed by scanning electron microscopy （sEM） to investigate the particle size d.s.ribution, and the ablated.s.mple surface was examined by camscope. In He gas atmosphere, the signal was more stable than in Ar gas atmosphere. The signal intensity was higher in Ar than in He. Examination of ablated particles and.s.mple surface reveals that more particles were generated in Ar atmosphere and the d.s.ribution of particle size was larger.
