Cyclic load.ng of marble: Correlating the attenuation of the electric and.acoustic activities and.highlighting criticality ind.ces in terms of natural time

The attenuation of the acoustic activity in marble specimens und.r uniaxial compressive load.ng-unload.ng loops is quantified.in juxtaposition to that of the electric activity. In parallel, the existence of "pre-failure ind.ces" warning about entrance into a critical stage, that of impend.ng fracture, is explored. The acoustic activity is quantified.in terms of the normalized.number of acoustic hits, their average rate of prod.ction and.their cumulative energy, and. the cumulative counts and.their average rate of change. The electric activity is stud.ed.in terms of the pressure stimulated.currents and.the electric charge released. The analysis revealed.that the acoustic and.electric activities are linearly correlated.to each other, suggesting that they are d.fferent manifestations of the same d.mage mechanisms. In ad.ition, kaiser's effect, governing the acoustic activity, is found.to govern, also, the electric activity. Moreover, it is conclud.d.that entrance into the critical stage is safely pred.cted.by means of a simple criterion, based.on the evolution of the average rate of change of the normalized.cumulative counts in the natural time d.main. These pred.ctions are almost id.ntical with those of the criterion based.on the "variance" and.the "entropies" of the time series of acoustic events in this d.main. © 2025

Mod.lling of d.ily Long-Term Urban Road.Traffic Flow d.stribution: A Poisson Process Approach

Road.traffic flow forecasting provid.s critical information for the operational management of road.mobility challenges, and.mod.ls are used.to generate the forecast. This paper uses a rand.m process to present a novel traffic mod.lling framework for aggregate traffic on urban road.. The main id.a is that road.traffic flow is rand.m, even for the recurrent flow, such as rush hour traffic, which is pred.sposed.to congestion. Therefore, the structure of the aggregate traffic flow mod.l for urban road. should.correlate well with the essential variables of the observed.rand.m d.namics of the traffic flow phenomena. The novelty of this paper is the d.veloped.framework, based.on the Poisson process, the kinematics of urban road.traffic flow, and.the intermed.ate mod.lling approach, which were combined.to formulate the mod.l. Empirical d.ta from an urban road.in Ghana was used.to explore the mod.l’s fid.lity. The results show that the d.stribution from the mod.l correlates well with that of the empirical traffic, provid.ng a strong valid.tion of the new framework and.instilling confid.nce in its potential for significantly improved.forecasts and. hence, a more hopeful outlook for real-world.traffic management.

Intense wind.shear(I-WS)near airport runways presents a critical challenge to aviation safety,necessi-tating accurate and.timely classification to mitigate risks d.ring takeoff and.*** stud. proposes the application of ad.anced.Resid.al Network(ResNet)architectures includ.ng ResNet34 and.ResNet50 for classifying I-WS and.Non-Intense Wind.Shear(NI-WS)events using d.ppler Light d.tection and.Ranging(Lid.R)d.ta from Hong kong International Airport(HkIA).Unlike conventional mod.ls such as feed.orward.neural networks(FNNs),convolutional neural networks(CNNs),and.recurrent neural networks(RNNs),ResNet provid.s a d.stinct ad.antage in ad.ressing key challenges such as capturing intricate WS d.namics,mitigating vanishing grad.ent issues in d.ep architectures,and.effectively hand.ing class imbalance when combined.with Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique(SMOTE).The analysis results revealed.that ResNet34 outperforms other mod.ls with a Balanced.Accuracy of 0.7106,Probability of d.tection of 0.8271,False Alarm Rate of 0.328,F1-score of 0.7413,Matthews Correlation Coefficient of 0.433,and.Geometric Mean of 0.701,d.monstrating its effectiveness in classifying I-WS *** find.ngs of this stud. not only establish ResNet as a valuable tool in the d.main of WS classification but also provid. a reliable framework for enhancing operational safety at airports.

Unlike most plants, members of the genus Solanum prod.ce cholesterol and.use this as a precursor for steroid.l glycoalkaloid.. The prod.ction of the compound. begins as a branch from brassinosteroid.biosynthesis, which prod.ces cholesterol that is further mod.fied.to prod.ce steroid.l glycoalkaloid.. d.ring the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway, genetic engineering could.alter the formation of cholesterol from provitamin d.(7-d.hyd.ocholesterol) and.prod.ce vitamin d.. Cholesterol is a precursor for many steroid.l glycoalkaloid., includ.ng a-tomatine and.esculeosid. A. Alpha-tomatine is consumed.by mammals and.it can red.ce cholesterol content and.improve Ld.:Hd. ratio.
