Seasonal thermal energy storage using natural structures:GIS-based potential assessment for northern China

Seasonal thermal energy storage(STES)allows storing heat for long-term and thus promotes the shifting of waste heat resources from summer to winter to decarbonize the district heating(dH)*** being a promising solution for sustainable energy system,large-scale STES for urban regions is lacking due to the relatively high initial investment and extensive land *** close the gap,this study assesses the potentials of using two naturally available structures for STES,namely valley and ground pit *** on geographical information system(GIS)methods,the available locations are searched from digital elevation model and selected considering several criteria from land uses and construction *** costs of dams to impound the reservoir and the yielded storage capacities are then quantified to guide the choice of suitable *** assessment is conducted for the northern China where dH systems and significant seasonal differences of energy demand *** total,2,273 valley sites and 75 ground pit sites are finally identified with the energy storage capacity of 15.2 billion GJ,which is much larger than the existing dH demand in northern *** results also prove that 682 valley sites can be achieved with a dam cost lower than 20 CNY/m^(3).By conducting sensitivity analysis on the design dam wall height and elevations,the choices of available natural structures are expanded but practical issues about water pressures and constructions are also ***,the identified sites are geographically mapped with nearest urban regions to reveal their roles in the dH *** general,560 urban regions are found with potential STES units and most of them have STES storage capacities larger than their own dH *** novel planning methodology of this study and publicly available datasets create possibilities for the implementations of large-scale STES in urban dH systems.

P-aminobenzoic acid promotes retinal regeneration through activation of Ascl1a in zebrafish

The retina of zebrafish can regenerate completely after injury.m ultiple studies have demonstrated that metabolic alte rations occur during retinal damage;however to date no study has identified a link between metabolites and retinal regeneration of ***,we performed an unbiased metabolome sequencing in the N-methyl-d-aspartic acid-damaged retinas of zebrafish to demonstrate the metabolomic mechanism of retinal *** the differentially-ex pressed metabolites,we found a significant decrease in p-aminobenzoic acid in the N-methyl-d-aspartic acid-damaged retinas of ***,we investigated the role of p-aminobenzoic acid in retinal regeneration in adult *** rtantly,p-aminobenzoic acid activated Achaetescute complex-like 1a expression,thereby promoting müller glia reprogramming and division,as well as müller glia-derived progenitor cell ***,we eliminated folic acid and inflammation as downstream effectors of PABA and demonstrated that PABA had little effect on müller glia *** together,these findings show that PABA contributes to retinal regeneration through activation of Achaetescute complex-like 1a expression in the N-methyl-daspartic acid-damaged retinas of zebrafish.

due to the coupling between the hydrodynamic equation and the phase-field equation in two-phase incompressible flows,it is desirable to develop efficient and high-order accurate numerical schemes that can decouple these two *** popular and efficient strategy is to add an explicit stabilizing term to the convective velocity in the phase-field equation to decouple *** resulting schemes are only first-order accurate in time,and it seems extremely difficult to generalize the idea of stabilization to the second-order or higher *** this paper,we employ the spectral deferred correction method to improve the temporal accuracy,based on the first-order decoupled and energy-stable scheme constructed by the stabilization *** novelty lies in how the decoupling and linear implicit properties are maintained to improve the *** the framework of the spatially discretized local discontinuous Galerkin method,the resulting numerical schemes are fully decoupled,efficient,and high-order accurate in both time and *** experiments are performed to validate the high-order accuracy and efficiency of the methods for solving phase-field models of two-phase incompressible flows.

Effects of the Rainfall-Triggered Lisse Effect on the Stability of Loess Slopes

This paper coupled a water-air two-phase hydrodynamic(WATPH)model with the Iverson’s method to analyze the influence of the Lisse effect on the fast groundwater pressure(P_(w))response and the slope ***,the sensitivities of the driving force and loess soil parameters were *** showed that the WATPH model simulated the height and rise of the depth to the water table reasonably *** depth to water table before rainfall(H0)had a significant impact on the Lisse effect and the slope *** the H_(0) was less than approximately 1 m,the rainfall triggered a significant Lisse effect and decreased the slope factor of safety(F_(s)).When the rainfall intensity(R_(i))was higher than the saturated hydraulic conductivity(K_(s)),the Lisse effect and the F_(s) slightly changed with the increase of the R_(i),and the slope tended to be unstable with continuous *** increasing K_(s),the Lisse effect noticeably increased,and the minimum F_(s) quickly *** analysis of the normalized sensitivity coefficient revealed that H_(0) had a dramatic impact on the Lisse effect and loess slope *** different R_(i) and K_(s) values had prominent influences on the Lisse effect and slight impacts on F_(s).

Excessive electrolyte decomposition seriously determines the performance of high-voltage mg batteries. In Nazar's work, the strategy using a zeolite polymer membrane as a protective interface was proposed to restrain the electrolyte decomposition. This strategy could boost mg plating/stripping performance up to 6000 h in zeolite/mg|zeolite/mg symmetric cells and 91%capacity retention in zeolite/mg||mo_(3)S_(4)battery after 200 *** storage devices have been intensively explored because of their important roles in our daily lives [1d3].

A Probing model of Secret Key Generation Based on Channel Autocorrelation Function

Secret key generation(SKG)is a promising solution to the problem of wireless communications *** the first step of SKG,channel probing affects it *** there have been some probing schemes,there is a lack of research on the optimization of the probing *** study investigates how to optimize correlated parameters to maximize the SKG rate(SKGR)in the time-division duplex(Tdd)***,we build a probing model which includes the effects of transmitting power,the probing period,and the dimension of sample *** on the model,the analytical expression of the SKGR is ***,we formulate an optimization problem for maximizing the SKGR and give an algorithm to solve *** conclude the SKGR monotonically increases as the transmitting power *** mathematical proofs are given in this *** the simulation results,increasing appropriately the probing period and the dimension of the sample vector could increase the SKGR dramatically compared to a yardstick,which indicates the importance of optimizing the parameters related to the channel probing phase.

Three dimensional discrete element modelling of the conventional compression behavior of gas hydrate bearing coal

To analyze the relationship between macro and meso parameters of the gas hydrate bearing coal(GHBC)and to calibrate the meso-parameters,the numerical tests were conducted to simulate the laboratory triaxial compression tests by PFC3d,with the parallel bond model employed as the particle contact constitutive ***,twenty simulation tests were conducted to quantify the relationship between the macro–meso ***,nine orthogonal simulation tests were performed using four meso-mechanical parameters in a three-level to evaluate the sensitivity of the meso-mechanical ***,the calibration method of the meso-parameters were then ***,the contact force chain,the contact force and the contact number were examined to investigate the saturation effect on the meso-mechanical behavior of *** results show that:(1)The elastic modulus linearly increases with the bonding stiffness ratio and the friction coefficient while exponentially increasing with the normal bonding strength and the bonding radius *** failure strength increases exponentially with the increase of the friction coefficient,the normal bonding strength and the bonding radius coefficient,and remains constant with the increase of bond stiffness ratio;(2)The friction coefficient and the bond radius coefficient are most sensitive to the elastic modulus and the failure strength;(3)The number of the force chains,the contact force,and the bond strength between particles will increase with the increase of the hydrate saturation,which leads to the larger failure strength.

A super sandstorm altered the abundance and composition of airborne bacteria in Beijing

Sandstorm,which injects generous newly emerging microbes into the atmosphere covering cities,adversely affects the air quality in built ***,few studies have examined the change of airborne bacteria during severe sandstorm *** this work,we analyzed the airborne bacteria during one of the strongest sandstorms in East Asia onmarch 15th,2021,which affected large areas of China and *** characteristics of the sandstorm were compared with those of the subsequent clean and haze *** composition of the bacterial community of air samples was investigated using quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qPCR)and high-throughput sequencing *** the sandstorm,the particulate matter(Pm)concentration and bacterial richnesswere extremely high(Pm2.5:207μg/m3;Pm10:1630μg/m3;5700 amplicon sequence variants/m3).In addition,the sandstorm brought 10 pathogenic bacterial genera to the atmosphere,posing a grave hazard to human *** the sandstorm subsided,small bioaerosols(0.65–1.1μm)with a similar bacterial community remained suspended in the atmosphere,bringing possible long-lasting health risks.

developing fluorescence probes with multiple responses has vital significance but remains ***,for the first time,we present a mitochondrial dNA(mtdNA)-triggered pH response signalamplified fluorescent probe(QCY-dBT)for multiple cell *** probe exhibited a large stokes shift(229 nm),excellent dNA selectivity over RNA,and ultrasensitivity of detection limit(dL;74.0 ng/mL).Thus,QCY-dBT was successfully applied to analyze multiple human peripheral blood cells and visualize mtdNA in healthy and apoptotic *** the tumor acidic environment(pH 6.0–7.0),the absorbance of QCY-dBT at 436 nm increased,and the fluorescence signal(665 nm)was amplified by mtdNA,which enabled the direct observation of tumor *** study provides help in designing smart probes with multiple responses for efficient abnormal cell detection.
