Severe acute pancreatitis： pathogenesis, diagnosis and surgical management

BACKGROUNd： Severe acute pancreatitis is a subtype of acute pancreatitis, associated with multiple organ failure and systemic inflammatory response syndrome. in this qualitative review we looked at the principles of pathogenesis, classification and surgical management of severe acute pancreatitis. We also looked at the current shift in paradigm in the management of severe acute pancreatitis since the guideline developed by the British Society of *** SOURCES： Studies published between 1st January 1991 and 31st december 2015 were identified with Pub Med, MEdLiNE, EMBASE and Google Scholar online search engines using the following Medical Subject Headings： “acute pancreatitis, necrosis, mortality, pathogenesis, incidence” and the terms “open necrosectomy and minimally invasive necrosectomy”.The National institute of Clinical Excellence（NiCE） Guidelines were also included in our study. inclusion criteria for our clinical review included established guidelines, randomized controlled trials and non-randomized controlled trials with a follow-up duration of more than 6 ***： The incidence of severe acute pancreatitis within the UK is significantly rising and pathogenetic theories are still controversial. in developed countries, the most common cause is biliary calculi. The British Society of Gastroenterology,acknowledges the Revised Atlanta criteria for prediction of severity. Forensic entomology evidence collected by police and mortuary staff may be delayed in getting to the *** samples may continue developing and alter minimum postmortem interval (PMimin) *** study investigated development of simulated evidential samples of Calliphora vicina Robineau-desvoidy and Chrysomya rufifacies (Macquart) (diptera: Calliphoridae) *** of each species were studied in three developmental classes: "small" (late second/early third instar),"mid" (mid third instar) and "large" (late third instar).Seven replicates of 11 maggots in each class were assigned without food to four treatments: (1) 24 h at 20 ℃;(2) 24 h at 4 ℃;(3) 48 h at 20 ℃ and (4) 48 h at 4 ℃.There was a significant difference in absolute length change across treatments,reflecting size for C vicina,and interaction between size,time and temperature for *** vicina maggots showed minimal mortality,and most second instar larvae moulted by the experiment's *** rufifacies showed heavy mortality and minimal moulting from the second to third *** "large" *** maggots kept at room temperature for 48 h *** these results confirm that development can continue in live unfed maggot samples after their collection,it is not advisable to delay their preservation.

Bile acid signaling and biliary functions

This review focuses on various components of bile acid signaling in relation to cholangiocytes. Their roles as targets for potential therapies for cholangiopathies are also explored. While many factors are involved in these complex signaling pathways, this review emphasizes the roles of transmembrane G protein coupled receptor(TGR5), farnesoid X receptor(FXR), ursodeoxycholic acid(UdCA) and the bicarbonate umbrella. Following a general background on cholangiocytes and bile acids,we will expand the review and include sections that are most recently known(within 5–7 years) regarding the field of bile acid signaling and cholangiocyte function. These findings all demonstrate that bile acids influence biliary functions which can, in turn, regulate the cholangiocyte response during pathological events.

A novel conditional cell transmission model for oversaturated arterials

The objective of this work is to develop a novel feature for traffic flow models, when traffic queues on two-way arterials periodically extend until then they block an upstream signal in oversaturated conditions. The new model, proposed as conditional cell transmission model （CCTM） has been developed with two improvements. First, cell transmission model （CTM） is expanded for two-way arterials by taking account of all diverging and merging activities at intersections. Second, a conditional cell is added to simulate periodic spillback and blockages at an intersection. The results of experiments for a multilane, two-way, three-signal sample network demonstrate that CCTM can accommodate various traffic demands and accurate representation of blockages at intersections. The delay of left turns is underestimated by 40 % in moderate conditions and by 58% in oversamrated condition when using the CTM rather than CCTM. Finally, the consistency between HCS 2000 and CCTM shows that CCTM is a reliable methodology of modeling traffic flow in oversaturated condition.

Aggregation and mating success of Capnodis tenebrionis （Coleoptera： Buprestidae）

An understanding of the relative importance of extrinsic and intrinsic factors in determining the potential distribution and mating success of individuals is critical for the successful monitoring and management of pest species. Using a combination of field observations and a caged field experiment, we explored the roles of environmental and individual variation on the formation of mating aggregations and mating success in the buprestid beetle Capnodis tenebrionis （Linnaeus, 1767）, a pest species of stone fruit trees. Our field observations revealed that the formation of aggregations is influenced by a range of environmental factors including temperature, photoperiod, and population density. However, aggregations were not at random and were more likely to occur on the section of the plant with highest incidence of solar radiation and thus higher temperatures. data from our experiment with caged beetles in the field further indicate that the reproductive behavior of this species varies with temperature. The probability of a successful mating occurring was also positively related to both male and female size. Females of C. tenebrionis mate several times over a 4-h period, but generally not with the same male. information obtained from these studies is useful to define the most appropriate time for pest control, especially adopting strategies that interfere with reproduction.

Trichomerium is a genus of foliar epiphytes with the appearance of sooty moulds,mostly occurring on the surface of living leaves and apparently gaining their nutrients from insect *** have ascostromata with setae and develop on a loosely interwoven mycelial mass of dark brown hyphae,while asci have a bitunicate appearance with hyaline *** this study,we made 16 collections of Trichomerium from *** were isolated,and the LSU and iTS rdNA gene regions *** analysis indicated that the Trichomerium species form a monophyletic clade within Chaetothyriales and warrant the introduction of a new family *** support for the Chaetothyriales is 100%and clearly separates Trichomeriaceae from Capnodiales which are morphologically very similar.A detailed account of Trichomerium is provided and we describe and illustrate three new species based on morphological and molecular *** propose that *** is adopted as the generic type of Trichomerium because it has been impossible to obtain the holotype specimen of *** and also no molecular data exists in worldwide databases for this species or genus.

Randomized controlled trials - mechanistic studies of testosterone and the cardiovascular system

Testosterone deficiency is common in men with cardiovascular disease （CVd）, and randomized placebo-controlled trials （RCTs） have reported beneficial effects of testosterone therapy on exercise-induced cardiac ischemia in chronic stable angina, functional exercise capacity, maximum oxygen consumption during exercise （VO2m,x） and muscle strength in chronic heart failure （CHF）, shortening of the Q-T interval, and improvement of some cardiovascular risk factors. Testosterone deficiency is associated with an adverse CV risk profile and mortality. Clinical and scientific studies have provided mechanistic evidence to support and explain the findings of the RCTs. Testosterone is a rapid-onset arterial vasodilator within the coronary circulation and other vascular beds including the pulmonary vasculature and can reduce the overall peripheral systemic vascular resistance. Evidence has demonstrated that testosterone mediates this effect on vascular reactivity through calcium channel blockade （L-calcium channel） and stimulates potassium channel opening by direct nongenomic mechanisms. Testosterone also stimulates repolarization of cardiac myocytes by stimulating the ultra-rapid potassium channel-operated current. Testosterone improves cardiac output, functional exercise capacity, VO2m=x and vagally mediated arterial baroreceptor cardiac reflex sensitivity in CHF, and other mechanisms. independent of the benefit of testosterone on cardiac function, testosterone substitution may also increase skeletal muscle glucose metabolism and enhance muscular strength, both factors that could contribute to the improvement in functional exercise capacity may include improved glucose metabolism and muscle strength. Responses to threat in a freshwater invader： longitudinal data reveal personality, habituation, and robustness to changing water temperatures in the ＂killer shrimp＂ dikerogammarus villosus （Crustacea： Amphipoda）

Freshwater biodiversity and ecosystem integrity are under threat from biological invasions. The ＂killer shrimp＂ dikerogammarus villosus is a highly predatory amphipod that has spread readily across Central Europe and recently the UK and its arrival has been associated with the significant loss of resident species. despite this, studies of its behavioral ecology are sparse, even though its be- havior may contribute to its invasion success. For the first time, we investigated antipredator ＂fleeing＂ behavior in d. villosus and how this changed with water temperature. Three key patterns emerged from our analysis. First, within a particular temperature condition there are moderate but consistent among-individual differences in behavior. These are driven by a combination of mean level among-individual differences and within-individual relative consistency in behavior, and pro- vide the key marker for animal personalities. Second, the fleeing responses were not influenced by temperature and third, regardless of temperature, all individuals appeared to habituate to a repeated nondangerous stimulus, indicating a capacity for individual learning. We suggest that the antipreda- tor behavior of d. villosus contributes to its rapid spread and that consistent among-individual differ- ences in behavior may promote biological invasions across heterogeneous conditions. Robustness to changing water temperatures may also be potentially advantageous, particularly in an era of glo- bal climate change, where average temperatures could be elevated and less predictable.

The glassy solid as a statistical ensemble of crystalline microstates

We present an alternative and,for the purpose of non-crystalline materials design,a more suitable description of covalent and ionic glassy solids as statistical ensembles of crystalline local minima on the potential energy *** by the concept of partially broken ergodicity,we analytically formulate the set of approximations under which the structural features of ergodic systems such as the radial distribution function(RdF)and powder X-ray diffraction(XRd)intensity can be rigorously expressed as statistical ensemble averages over different local *** is carried out by evaluating these ensemble averages for elemental Si and SiO_(2) over the local minima obtained through the first-principles random structure sampling that we performed using relatively small simulation cells,thereby restricting the sampling to a set of predominantly crystalline *** comparison with XRd and RdF from experiments(amorphous silicon)and molecular dynamics simulations(glassy SiO_(2))shows excellent agreement,thus supporting the ensemble picture of glasses and opening the door to fully predictive description without the need for experimental inputs.
