Composition and Physico-Chemical Properties of Meat from Capons Fed Cereals

Chemical composition, physico-chemical properties and fatty acid composition of breast and drumstick meat from capons （castrated male cockerels） fed cereals were studied. Three groups of capons were reared. One group was fed ad libitum the same commercial diet until the 4th mon of life. The last month of its life, the capons of this group were fed corn. The second and third group of capons were fed the same diet from caponization. The second group was fed mixture of corn （50%） and wheat （50%）. The third group of capons was fed 2/3 corn and 1/3 mixture of corn （50%） and barley （50%）. Capons were reared under free-range conditions and slaughtered at 150 d of age. Caponization was performed at 48 d. No signiifcant effects of feeding in chemical composition, pH, water holding capacity, drip and cooking losses and texture of the meat were observed. The meat of the third group （capons fed 83%corn） was more yellow and showed higher content of C18：2 than that of the other capons.

The floral-dip transformation, the simplest technique, is no requirement of tissue culture procedure, and can directly transfer the interest gene into plant reprod.ctive cells. It has been successfully applied to various plant species. In this study, the optimal conditions of a floral-dip method for prod.ction of transgenic rice variety Rd41 were explored. The simple and effective inoculation medium was composed of Murashige and Skoog(MS) medium, 5% sucrose, 44 nmol/L benzylaminopurine, and 0.075% surfactant Tween-20 with pH 5.7. The transformation efficiencies of Agrobacterium tumefaciens strains AGL1 and EHA105 were compared with the Agrobacterium density at Od_(600) = 0.8–1.0 and the co-cultivation at 25 ℃ for 48 h. A. tumefaciens strain EHA105 gave slightly higher transformation efficiency than AGL1, with statistically non-significant difference. The floral-drop transformation using the optimal floral-dip conditions showed higher transformation efficiency than the floral-dip method, but the dropped flowers turned brown and died within 2 d. Prod.ction of transgenic rice variety Rd41 by the floral-dip method was achieved using A. tumefaciens strain EHA105 with the optimal conditions. Screening for the gus A gene by PCR using the gus A specific primers in the T_0 lines, there were 4 transgenic lines from 286 T_0 lines(1.4% transformation efficiency). However, histochemical glucuronidase(GUS) assay demonstrated that only three of four transgenic lines exhibited gus A expression. These results indicated that floral-dip transformation is a potential tool for prod.ction of the transgenic rice, which can be used for molecular breeding via genetic engineering in the future.

Three new species of Meliolaceae,Appendiculella monsterae on Monstera deliciosa(Araceae),Asteridiella nitidae on Buddleja nitida(Scrophulariaceae),and Irenopsis chrysophylli on Chrysophyllum sp.(Sapotaceae),are described based on material collected in *** species of Meliolaceae are reported for the first time for Panama,which include four first records for the Americas,***,Meliola indica,and ***,previously known only from Asia,and *** hitherto known only from *** species of plants are cited as hosts for meliolaceous fungi for the first *** a phylogenetic hypothesis based on 28S nrdNA sequences,the position of Meliolales,including Appendiculella,Asteridiella,Endomeliola,Irenopsis,and Meliola,is found to be basal to Sordariomycetidae,Hypocreomycetidae,and Xylariomycetidae within *** five genera of Meliolaceae form a strongly supported *** suggest adopting the concept of the subclass *** monophyly of Asteridiella cannot be confirmed.A hypothetical close relationship between Asteridiella and Appendiculella is not supported,but Endomeliola appears closely related to a species of *** Meliola species on the same host family are closely related.

Because of the lack of reports, the base levels of microbial contamination on stored fuels are unknown in tropical regions and it is unclear whether these levels have some influence on fuel quality parameters. Therefore, fungal quality in automobile fuels stored across Costa Rican territory was evaluated during two years according to the standard ASTM d6974-04. For a total of 96 samples, counts and identification of molds and yeasts were performed on regular gas, premium gas and diesel taken from the bottom and superior part of the container tanks. The highest contamination was found on the bottom of the tanks, where an aqueous phase was usually identified, showing populations over the ones present in the hydrocarbon itself （up to 108 CFU/L）. diesel was the most contaminated fuel （up to 107 CFO/L）; however, an alteration on the physicochemical parameters was not observed in any kind of fuel. Seventy-five mold strains were isolated, Penicillium sp. being the most common genus （45.8% of the samples）, and ten yeast strains, from the genera Candida sp. and Rhodotorula sp. Four of the yeasts were able to grow on diesel as the sole carbon source, at concentrations ranging from 0.5% to 25%. Increasing the frequency of tank cleaning, adding antimicrobial agents and monitoring microbial populations are recommended strategies to improve microbial quality of stored fuels.

Existing pion+nucleus drell-Yan and electron+pion scattering data are used to develop ensembles of modelindependent representations of the pion generalized parton distribution(GPd).Therewith,one arrives at a datadriven prediction for the pion mass distribution form factor,θ_(2)^(π).Compared with the pion elastic electromagnetic form factor,θ_(2)^(π)is harder:the ratio of the radii derived from these two form factors is r_(π)^(θ2)/r_(π)= 0.79(3).Our datadriven predictions for the pion GPd,related form factors and distributions should serve as valuable constraints on theories of pion structure.

There is a growing body of research indicating that drones can disturb ***,it is usu-ally unclear whether the disturbance is due to visual or auditory ***,we examined the effect of drone flights on the behavior of great dusky swifts Cypseloides senex and white collared swifts Streptoprocne zonaris in 2 breeding sites where drone noise was obscured by environmental noise from waterfalls and any disturbance must be largely *** performed 12 experimental flights with a multirotor drone at different vertical,horizontal,and diagonal distances from the *** all flights,17%causedds to temporarily a bandon the breeding site,50%caused half to abandon,and 33%caused more than half to *** found that the diagonal distance explained 98.9%of the variability of the disturbance percentage and while at distances>50 m the disturbance percentage does not exceed 20%,atdisturbance percentage increase to>60%.We recommend that flights with a multirotor drone during the breeding period should be con-ducted at a distance of>50 m and that recreational flights should be discouraged or conducted at larger distances(e.g.100 m)in nesting birds areas such as waterfalls,canyons,and caves.
