This paper deals with the description and the representation of polynomials defined over n-simplices, The polynomials are computed by using two recurrent schemes: the Neville-Aitken one for the Lagrange interpolating operator and the de Casteljau one for the Bernstein-Bezier approximating operator. Both schemes fall intothe framework of transformations of the form where the F iare given numbers (forexample, at the initial step they coincide with the values of the function on a given lattice), and the coefficients (x) are linear polynomials valued in x and x is fixed. A general theory for such sequence of transformations can be found in [2] where it is also proved that these tranformations are completely characterized in term of a linear functional, reference functional. This functional is associated with a linear space., characteristic *** concepts of reference functionals and characteristic spaces will be used and we shall prove the existence of a characteristic space for the reference functional: associated with these operators.

Alginate controls heartburn in patients with erosive and nonerosive reflux disease

douglas-fir(Pseudotsuga menziesii(Mirb.)Franco)is an important exotic tree species that was planted across a large part of Europe during the last *** both experimental trials and conventional forest plantations,the trees grow at a high rate and produce high-quality *** present study investigated climate-growth relationships of douglas-fi r at two Italian sites that contrast in climate:a Mediterranean area in southern Italy(Mercurella site)and a cooler,moister site in the northern Apennines without summer aridity(Acquerino).The relationship between tree-ring chronologies and monthly climatic variables was evaluated by a moving average and correlation *** showed that the minimum temperature in February and in March play a key role for douglas-fi r at both sites,with a positive eff ect on *** the northern site,it is also highly sensitive to late summer temperatures(negative correlation)and spring–summer precipitation(positive correlation).Growth rates in southern latitudes were high even in Europe and in the Mediterranean environment,with low sensitivity to climatic fl *** the basis of our results,further common garden experiments should test adaptation and the interaction between genetics and environment of second-or third-generation seeds from old stands across Europe such as done by the old International Union of Forest Research Organizations(IUFRO)or the European douglasfi r Improvement Research Cooperative(EUdIREC)experimentation programmes.

The assessment of the areas endangered by debris flows is a major issue in the context of mountain watershed management. depending on the scale of analysis, different methods are required for the assessment of the areas exposed to debris *** 2-d numerical models are advised for detailed mapping of inundation areas on individual alluvial fans, preliminary recognition of hazard areas at the regional scale can be adequately performed by less data-demanding methods, which enable priority ranking of channels and alluvial fans at risk by debris flows. This contribution focuses on a simple and fast procedure that has been implemented for regionalscale identification of debris-flow prone channels and prioritization of the related alluvial fans. The methodology is based on the analysis of morphometric parameters derived from digital Elevation Models(deMs). Potential initiation sites of debris flows are identified as the deM cells that exceed a threshold of slope-dependent contributing area. Channel reaches corresponding to debris flows propagation, deceleration and stopping conditions are derived from thresholds of local slope. An analysis of longitudinal profiles is used for the computation of the runout distance of debris flows. Information on erosion-resistant bedrock channels and sediment availability surveyed in the field are taken into account in the applications. A set of software tools was developed and made available(https://***/Hydrogeomorphology Tools) to facilitate the application of the procedure. This approach, which has been extensively validated by means of field checks, has been extensively applied in the eastern Italian Alps. This contribution discusses potential and limitations of the method in the frame of the management of small mountain watersheds.

AIM:To examine the links between quality of sleep and the severity of intestinal symptoms in irritable bow-el syndrome(IBS).METHOdS:One hundred and forty-two outpatients(110female,32 male)who met the Rome Ⅲ criteria for IBS with no psychiatric comorbidity were consecutively en-rolled in this *** on age,body mass index(BMI),and a set of life-habit variables were recorded,and IBS symptoms and sleep quality were evaluated using the questionnaires IBS Symptom Severity Score(IBS-SSS)and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI).The associa-tion between severity of IBS and sleep disturbances was evaluated by comparing the global IBS-SSS and PSQI score(Pearson's correlation and Fisher's exact test)and then analyzing the individual items of the IBS-SSS and PSQI questionnaires by a unitary bowel-sleep model based on item response theory(IRT).RESULTS:IBS-SSS ranged from mild to severe(120-470).The global PSQI score ranged from 1 to 17(median 5),and 60 patients were found to be poor sleepers(PSQI>5).The correlation between the global IBS-SSS and PSQI score indicated a weak association(r=0.2 and 95% CI:-0.03 to 0.35,Pd sleep disturbances severities,estimated as latent variables,resulted significantly high intra-subject cor-relation(posterior mean of r=0.45 and 95% CI:0.17 to 0.70,Pdaily coffee and alcohol intake)and IBS and sleep disturbances were also ana-lyzed through our unitary *** was a signif icant regressor,with patients≤50 years old showing more severe bowel disturbances(posterior mean=-0.38,Pd less severe sleep disturbances(posterior mean=0.49,Pder *** daily coffee intake was correlated with a lower sever-ity of bowel disturbances(posterior mean=-0.31,Pd daily alcohol intake(modest)were correlated with less severe sleep ***:The unitary bowel-sleep mod

AIM:To investigate the prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERd) in patients with a laryngoscopic diagnosis of laryngopharyngeal reflux(LPR).METHOdS:Between May 2011 and October 2011,41 consecutive patients with laryngopharyngeal symptoms(LPS) and laryngoscopic diagnosis of LPR were empirically treated with proton pump inhibitors(PPIs) for at least 8 wk,and the therapeutic outcome was assessed through validated questionnaires(GERd impact scale,GIS;visual analogue scale,VAS).LPR diagnosis was performed by ear,nose and throat specialists using the reflux finding score(RFS) and reflux symptom index(RSI).After a 16-d wash-out from PPIs,all patients underwent an upper endoscopy,stationary esophageal manometry,24-h multichannel intraluminal impedance and pH(MII-pH) esophageal monitoring.A positive correlation between LPR diagnosis and GERd was supposed based on the presence of esophagitis(ERd),pathological acid exposure time(AET) in the absence of esophageal erosions(NERd),and a positive correlation between symptoms and refluxes(hypersensitive esophagus,HE).RESULTS:The male/female ratio was 0.52(14/27),the mean age ± Sd was 51.5 ± 12.7 years,and the mean body mass index was 25.7 ± 3.4 kg/m *** subjects reported one or more ***-five out of 41 patients also had typical GERd symptoms(heartburn and/or regurgitation).The most frequent laryngoscopic findings were posterior laryngeal hyperemia(38/41),linear indentation in the medial edge of the vocal fold(31/41),vocal fold nodules(6/41) and diffuse infraglottic oedema(25/41).The GIS analysis showed that 10/41 patients reported symptom relief with PPI therapy(P did not report any clinical *** the same time,the VAS analysis showed a significant reduction in typical GERd symptoms after PPI therapy(P duction in LPS *** the other hand,such result was not recorded for *** was detected in 2/41 patients,and ineffective esophageal motility
