Purpose To complement and ensure redundancy in the endcap muon system of the Compact Muon Solenoid(CMS)detector and to extend the Resistive Plate Chamber(RPC)system coverage,improved RPCs(iRPCs)with either orthogonal layer strips with one-end electronics or single layer strips with two-end electronics providing more precise time measurement will be installed in the very forward pseudorapidity region of|η|dout system needs to support twodimensional(2d)or two-end *** addition,it must combine detector data with Timing,Trigger and fast Control(TTC)and Slow Control(SC)into one data stream over a bi-directional optical link with a line rate of 4.8 Gb/s between the Front-End Electronics(FEE)and the Back-End Electronics(BEE).To fulfill these requirements,a prototype BEE for the iRPC 2d chamber has been researched and *** A Micro-Telecommunication and Computing Architecture(μTCA)-based processing card was designed in this study to establish a prototype system together with aμTCA *** Giga-Bit Transceiver(GBT)protocol is integrated to provide bi-directional communication between the FEE and BEE.A server is connected with the BEE by a Gigabit Ethernet(GbE)link for SC and a 10-GbE link for data AcQuisition(dAQ).Results The Bit Error Rate(BER)test of the back-end board and a joint test with the iRPC 2d prototype chamber were *** less than 1.331×10−16 was *** timemeasurement with a resolution of 3.05 nswas successfully realized,and.detector efficiencies of 97.7%for longitudinal strips and 96.0%for orthogonal strips were *** results demonstrate the correctness and reliability of the prototype *** The BEE prototype satisfies the requirements for the iRPC 2d chamber,and it worked stably and reliably during a long-term joint test run.

Mapping Between Charge-dyon and Position-dependent Mass Systems

The primary purpose of this work is to reproduce the scenario composed of a charge-dyon system utilizing position-dependent effective mass(PdM) background in the non-relativistic and in the relativistic regimes. In the nonrelativistic case we substitute the exact charge-dyon eigenfunction into PdM Schr?dinger equation, in the Zhu-Kroemer parametrization, and then solve it for the mass distribution considering M = M(r). Analogously, in the relativistic case we study the Klein-Gordon equation for a position-dependent mass, and in this case, we are able to analytically solve the equation for M = M(r, θ).

Evaluation of bias on the assessment of diet breadth of herbivorous insects using molecular methods

The interactions between herbivores and their host plants play a key role in ecological processes. Understanding the width and nature of these interactions is funda- mental to ecology and conservation. Recent research on dNA-based inference of trophic associations suggests that the host range of phytophagous insects in the tropics may be wider than previously thought based on traditional observation. However, the reliability of molecular inference of ecological associations, still strongly dependent on PCR and thus exposed to the risk of contamination with environmental dNA, is under debate. Here, we explored alternative procedures to reduce the chance of amplification of external, nondiet dNA, including surface decontamination and analysis of mid/hind guts, comparing the results with those obtained using the standard protocol. We studied 261 specimens in eight species of Neotropical Chrysomelidae that yielded 316 psbA-trnH intergenic spacer sequences （cpdNA marker of putative diets） from unique and multiple-band PCR results. The taxonomic identity of these sequences was inferred using the automated pipeline BAGpipe, yielding results consistent with 31 plant families. Regardless of the proto- col used, a wide taxonomic spectrum of food was inferred for all chrysomelid species. Canonical Correspondence Analysis using these data revealed significant differences at- tributed mainly to species （expectedly, since they represent different ecologies）, but also to treatment （untreated vs. cleaned/gut samples） and PCR results （single vs. multiple bands）. Molecular identification of diets is not straightforward and, regardless of the species＇ niche breadth, combining approaches that reduce external contamination and studying multiple individuals per species may help increasing confidence in results.

Survival effects of antibiotic exposure during the larval and adult stages in the West Nile virus vector Culex pipiens

The ability of mosquitoes to transmit a pathogen is affected,among other factors,by their survival rate,which is partly modulated by their *** microbiota is acquired during the larval phase and modified during their development and adult feeding behavior,being highly dependent on environmental *** residues including antibiotics are widespread pollutants potentially being present in mosquito breeding waters likely affecting their ***,we used Culex pipiens mosquitoes to assess the impact of antibiotic exposure during the larval and adult stages on the survival rate of adult ***-collected larvae were randomly assigned to two treatments:larvae maintained in water supplemented with antibiotics and control *** adults were subsequently assigned to each of two treatments,fed with sugar solution with antibiotics and fed only with sugar solution(controls).Larval exposure to antibiotics significantly increased the survival rate of adult females that received a control *** addition,the effect of adult exposure to antibiotics on the survival rate of both male and female mosquitoes depended on the number of days that larvae fed ad libitum in the laboratory before *** particular,shorter larval ad libitum feeding periods reduced the survival rate of antibiotic-treated adult mosquitoes compared with those that emerged after a longer larval feeding *** differences were not found in control adult *** results extend the current understanding of the impact of antibiotic exposure of mosquitoes on a key component of vectorial capacity,that is the vector survival rate.

To evaluate the effect of silymarin on the serum levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (γGT) in patients with liver diseases. METHOdSA systematic review with meta-analysis of ramdomized and controlled clinical trials was performed, evaluating the effects of sylimarin in patients with hepatic diseases, published by January 31, 2016. Clinical trials were sought on the basis of The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials in the Cochrane Library, PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, Lilacs and Clinical Trials. The trials with adult and elderly patients of both sexes, with Liver diseases who took oral silymarin supplementation, as extract or isolated, as well as Silymarin combined with other nutrients, were included. The trials should provide information about the intervention, such as dosages and.detailing of the product used, besides the mean and standard.deviation of serum levels of ALT, AST and γGT of the baseline and at the end of the intervention. RESULTSAn amount of 10904 publications were identified. From those, only 17 were included in the systematic review and 6 in the meta-analysis, according to the used selection criteria. In this meta-analysis, the results indicated a reduction of 0.26 IU/mL (95%CI: -0.46-0.07, P = 0.007) at the level of ALT and 0.53 IU/mL (95%CI: -0.74-0.32, P = 0.000) at the serum levels of AST after using the silymarin, both, statistically significant, but with no clinical relevance. There was no significant change in the γGT levels. Subgroup analyzes were also performed for the biochemical markers in relation to the type of intervention, whether silymarin isolated or associated with other nutrients and the time of intervention (whether ≥ 6 mo or differences were not found. Life cycle and nymphal feeding of Besdolus ravizzarum （Plecoptera： Perlodidae）, a threatened stonefly

We have studied some aspects of Besdolus ravizzarum biology in the Apen- nines. This stonefly has a very localized distribution in southeastern France and northern Italy. This species is considered threatened. For this reason it is especially relevant to improve knowledge about its natural history, previously unknown. despite the large size of nymphs, this species shows a univoltine life cycle. The growth is slow but uniform from October to April or May when the short flight period occurs. The analysis of the gut con- tents indicates this species is a predator, feeding mainly on Baetidae and Chironomidae. It is notable that the development of this carnivorous species through cold periods coincides with the season with higher richness and.density of potential prey in Apennine streams. Further studies are needed to improve knowledge of the distribution of the species and to start planning effective conservation efforts.
