Effects of Tillage and Crop Residue Management on Maize Yields and Net Returns in the Central Mexican Highlands Under drought Conditions

In the subtropical highlands of Central Mexico,where the main crop is maize(Zea mays),the conventional practice(CP) involves tillage,monoculture and residue removal,leading to soil degradation and unsustainable use of natural resources and agricultural *** agriculture(CA) has been proposed as a viable alternative in the region,based on reduction in tillage,retention of adequate levels of crop residues and soil surface cover and use of crop *** study began in 2009 when the highlands of Central Mexico suffered from a prolonged drought during vegetative maize growth in July-August,providing an opportunity for the on-farm comparison of CA with CP under severe drought conditions which 21 climate change models projected to become more *** dry conditions,CA resulted in higher yields and net returns per hectare as early as the first and second years after adoption by *** an average of 27 plots under farmers' management in 2009,the maize yields were 26%higher under CA(6.3t ha^(-1)) than under CP(5.0 t ha^(-1)).2010 was close to a normal year in terms of rainfall so yields were higher than in 2009 for both practices;in addition,the yield difference between the practices was reduced to 19%(6.8 t ha^(-1) for CA vs.5.7 t ha^(-1) for CP).When all the 2009 and 2010 observations were analyzed in a modified stability analysis,CA had an overall positive effect of 3 838 Mexican Pesos ha^(-1)(320 $US ha^(-1)) on net return and 1.3 t ha^(-1) on *** only one to two years of adoption by farmers on their fields,CA had higher yields and net returns under dry conditions that were even drier than those predicted by the analyzed 21 climate change models under a climate change scenario,emission scenario A2.

Coronavirus disease 2019(COVId-19),caused by the highly pathogenic severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),primarily impacts the respiratory tract and can lead to severe outcomes such as acute respiratory distress syndrome,multiple organ failure,and *** extensive studies on the pathogenicity of SARS-CoV-2,its impact on the hepatobiliary system remains *** liver injury is commonly indicated by reduced albumin and elevated bilirubin and transaminase levels,the exact source of this damage is not fully *** mechanisms for injury include direct cytotoxicity,collateral damage from inflammation,drug-induced liver injury,and ischemia/***,evidence often relies on blood tests with liver enzyme *** this comprehensive review,we focused solely on the different histopathological manifestations of liver injury in COVId-19 patients,drawing from liver biopsies,complete autopsies,and in vitro liver *** present evidence of the direct impact of SARS-CoV-2 on the liver,substantiated by in vitro observations of viral entry mechanisms and the actual presence of viral particles in liver samples resulting in a variety of cellular changes,including mitochondrial swelling,endoplasmic reticulum dilatation,and hepatocyte *** ly,we describe the diverse liver pathology observed during COVId-19 infection,encompassing necrosis,steatosis,cholestasis,and lobular *** also discuss the emergence of long-term complications,notably COVId-19-related secondary sclerosing *** the histopathological liver changes occurring during COVId-19 infection is pivotal for improving patient recovery and guiding decision-making.

This study investigates the influence of waste characteristics,especially zeta potential,on the properties of cement pastes and *** focus is to evaluate the impact of the zeta potential of cement particles and waste materials on the sedimentation speed,rheology,and hardening time of stabilized cement *** Cement II F 40,retarder additive,silica,and fly ash were used in the *** pastes were prepared,and during the stabilization period,their rheological properties and pH were *** zeta potential and sedimentation speed of the cement and waste particles were measured at the pH that the pastes presented during the entire stabilization *** the stabilization period,the pastes were subjected to the hardening time *** zeta potential analyses revealed diverse values for the different powder types,with the cement particles exhibiting a zeta potential of−3.0 mV,the silica particles exhibiting−10.5 mV,and the fly ash particles exhibiting−20.3 *** influence of the high zeta potential modulus was observed on the sedimentation speed,with the solution containing fly ash exhibiting a speed of 40.01μm/s,whereas the solution containing only cement exhibited a speed of 99.38μm/*** the pastes,the results indicate that the presence of fly ash particles with a significantly negative zeta potential led to a 16%reduction in hardening time compared to particles with a lower modulus of zeta *** tests showed that the inclusion of fly ash particles prevented the formation of *** the zeta potential influenced agglomerate formation and hardening time,it was found to have no effect on yield stress or viscosity.

Cost-effective multilevel techniques for homogeneous hyperbolic conservation laws are very successful in reducing the computational cost associated to high resolution shock capturing numerical *** they do not involve any special data structure,and do not induce savings in memory requirements,they are easily implemented on existing codes and are recommended for 1d and 2d simulations when intensive testing is *** multilevel technique can also be applied to balance laws,but in this case,numerical errors may be induced by the *** present a series of numerical tests that point out that the use of monotonicity-preserving interpolatory techniques eliminates the numerical errors observed when using the usual 4-point centered lagrange interpolation,and leads to a more robust multilevel code for balance laws,while maintaining the efficiency rates observed forhyperbolic conservation laws.

Interactions between maternal parity and feed additives drive the composition of pig gut microbiomes in the post‑weaning period

Background Nursery pigs undergo stressors in the post-weaning period that result in production and welfare *** challenges disproportionately impact the offspring of primiparous sows compared to those of mul-tiparous *** is known regarding potential interactions between parity and feed additives in the post-weaning period and their effects on nursery pig ***,the objective of this study was to investigate the effects of maternal parity on sow and offspring microbiomes and the influence of sow parity on pig fecal microbi-ome and performance in response to a prebiotic *** weaning,piglets were allotted into three treat-ment groups:a standard nursery diet including pharmacological doses of Zn and Cu(Con),a group fed a commercial prebiotic only(Preb)based on an Aspergillus oryzae fermentation extract,and a group fed the same prebiotic plus Zn and Cu(Preb+ZnCu).Results Although there were no differences in vaginal microbiome composition between primiparous and mul-tiparous sows,fecal microbiome composition was different(R^(2)=0.02,P=0.03).The fecal microbiomes of primiparous offspring displayed significantly higher bacterial diversity compared to multiparous offspring at d 0 and d 21 post-weaning(Pdifferences in community composition observed at d 21(R^(2)=0.03,P=0.04).When analyzing the effects of maternal parity within each treatment,only the Preb diet triggered significant microbiome distinc-tions between primiparous and multiparous offspring(d 21:R^(2)=0.13,P=0.01;d 42:R^(2)=0.19,P=0.001).Composi-tional differences in pig fecal microbiomes between treatments were observed only at d 21(R^(2)=0.12,P=0.001).Pigs in the Con group gained significantly more weight throughout the nursery period when compared to those in the Preb+ZnCu *** Nursery pig gut microbiome composition was influenced by supplementation with an Aspergillus oryzae fermentation extract,with varying effects on performance

BACKGROUNd Type 2 diabetes is a chronic,non-communicable disease with a substantial global impact,affecting a significant number of *** etiology is closely tied to imbalanced dietary practices and sedentary ***,increasing die-tary fiber(dF)intake has consistently demonstrated health benefits in numerous studies,including improvements in glycemic control and weight *** To investigate the efficacy of dF interventions in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2dM).METHOdS A systematic literature review was conducted to explore the association between dF intake and the management of *** the inclusion and exclusion criteria,a total of 26 studies were included in this *** The main strategies implied to increased dF intake were:High dF diet plus acarbose(2 studies);dF supplements(14 studies);and high dF diets(10 studies).Overall,most studies indicated that increased dF intake resulted in im-provements in glycemic control and weight management in T2dM *** dF represents a valuable strategy in the treatment of type 2 diabetes,improving health *** intake offers the potential to improve quality of life and reduce complications and mortality associated with ***,through supplements or enriched foods,dF contributes significantly to the control of several markers such as HbA1c,blood glucose,triglycerides,low-density lipoprotein,and body weight.

Mercury is a threatening pollutant in food,herein,we developed a Tb^(3+)-nucleic acid probe-based label-free assay for mix-and-read,rapid.detection of mercury *** assay utilized the feature of light-up fluorescence of terbium ions(Tb^(3+))via binding with single-strand *** ion,Hg^(2+)induced thymine(T)-rich dNA strand to form a double-strand structure(T-Hg^(2+)-T),thus leading to fluorescence *** on the principle,Hg^(2+)can be quantified based on the fluorescence of Tb^(3+),the limit of detection was 0.0689μmol/L and the linear range was 0.1-6.0μmol/*** to the specificity of T-Hg^(2+)-T artificial base pair,the assay could distinguish Hg^(2+)from other metal *** recovery rate was ranged in 98.71%-101.34%for detecting mercury pollution in three food *** assay is low-cost,separation-free and mix-to-read,thus was a competitive tool for detection of mercury pollution to ensure food safety.
