direct sm.lting process for stainless steel crude alloy recovery from.m.xed low-grade chrom.te, nickel laterite and m.nganese ores

Stainless steel crude alloy recovery from.direct sm.lting of low-grade chrom.te, nickel laterite and m.nganese ores was investigated. The m.xed low-grade ores were directly sm.lted in an elevator furnace at sm.lting tem.eratures ranging from.1550 to 1600 ℃. Sm.lting experim.nts were conducted in a laboratory elevator furnace equipped with 8 U-shaped high- quality m.lybdenum.disilicide heating elem.nts. A low-grade coal was used as the reductant. Experim.ntal results showed that the recovery of Fe, Cr, Ni, m. and Si within the alloy increased from.34.22, 60.27, 57.14, 25.42 and 13.02% to 69.91, 99.26, 86.02, 60.8 and 34.21%, respectively, when the tem.erature was increased from.1550 to 1600 ℃. There was a general increase in the total recoveries of Fe, Cr, and Ni in the alloy with CaO addition increasing from.0.4 g up to 1.2 g. However, the recoveries of m. and Si vividly decreased as the CaO contents were increased. In general, the recoveries of the m.tal contents of the crude alloy increase with the increase in the am.unt of m.nganese ore. Com.ared to the recoveries of Fe, Cr, and Ni when CaO was added, the recoveries of Fe, Cr and Ni were lower when m.nganese ore was used as an additive.

This paper deals with the synthesis of fuzzy controller applied to the induction m.tor with a guaranteed m.del reference tracking perform.nce. First, the Takagi-Sugeno （T-S） fuzzy m.del is used to approxim.te the nonlinear system.in the synchronous d-q fram. rotating with field-oriented control strategy. Then, a fuzzy state feedback controller is designed to reduce the tracking error by m.nim.zing the disturbance level. The proposed controller is based on a T-S reference m.del in which the desired trajectory has been specified. The inaccessible rotor flux is estim.ted by a T-S fuzzy observer. The developed approach for the controller design is based on the synthesis of an augm.nted fuzzy m.del which regroups the m.del of induction m.chine, fuzzy observer, and reference m.del. The gains of the observer and controller are obtained by solving a set of linear m.trix inequalities （Lm.s）. Finally, sim.lation and experim.ntal results are given to show the perform.nce of the observer-based tracking controller.

Efficient approaches of determ.ning the m.tion of a spherical particle in a swirling fluid flow using weighted residual m.thods

The m.tion of a spherical particle released in a swirling fluid flow is studied em.loying the least-squares m.thod and m.thod of m.m.nts. The governing equations are obtained and solved em.loying the two m.thods. The accuracy of the results is exam.ned against the results of a fourth-order Runge-Kutta num.r- ical m.thod. The effects of various param.ters, nam.ly the initial radius, initial radial velocity, initial angular velocity, and drag-to-inertia ratio, on the non-dim.nsional velocity profiles and particle position distribution are considered. The results show that the radial velocity increases over tim. while the angular velocity decreases, and that an increase in the initial radial velocity increases the particle radial distance and angular velocity but decreases the radial velocity profile.

In this paper, iterative or successive approxim.tion m.thods for the Ham.lton-Jacobi-Bellm.n-lsaacs equations （HJBIEs） arising in both determ.nistic and stochastic optim.l control for affine nonlinear system. are developed. Convergence of the m.thods are established under fairly m.ld assum.tions, and exam.les are solved to dem.nstrate the effectiveness of the m.thods. However, the results presented in the paper are prelim.nary, and do not yet im.ly in anyway that the solutions com.uted will be stabilizing. m.re im.rovem.nts and experim.ntation will be required before a satisfactory algorithm.is developed.

Interaction between B-doped C60 Fullerene and Glycine Am.no Acid from. First-Principles Sim.lation

The possibility of form.tion of com.lexes between glycine and boron doped C60 （C59B） fullerene is investigated and com.ared with that of C60 fullerene by using the density functional theory calculations. It has been found that the binding of glycine to C59B generated the m.st stable com.lexes via its carbonyl oxygen active site, with a binding energy of-37.89 kcal/m.l, while the glycine m.lecule prefers to bind to the pure C60 cage via its am.no nitrogen active site, consistent with the recent experim.ntal and theoretical studies. We have also tested the stability of the m.st stable Gly-C59B com.lex with ab initio m.lecular dynam.cs sim.lation, carried out at room.tem.erature. These indicate that the B-doped C60 fullerenes seem.to be m.re suitable m.terials for bindings to proteins than pure C60 fullerenes.

The aim.of the present study was to com.are assessm.nts of sperm.concentration and sperm.m.tility analysed by conventional sem.n analysis with those obtained by com.uter-assisted sem.n analysis （CASA）（Copenhagen Rigshospitalet Im.ge House Sperm.m.tility Analysis System.（CRISm.S） 4.6 software） using sem.n sam.les from.166 young danish m.n. The CRISm.S software identifies sperm.concentration and classifies sperm.tozoa into three m.tility categories. To enable com.arison of the two m.thods, the four m.tility stages obtained by conventional sem.n analysis were, based on their velocity classifications, divided into three stages, com.arable to the three CRISm.S m.tility categories： rapidly progressive （A）, slowly progressive （B） and non-progressive （C＋ d）. differences between the two m.thods were large for all investigated param.ters （P〈0.001）. CRISm.S overestim.ted sperm.concentration and the proportion of rapidly progressive sperm.tozoa and, consequently, underestim.ted the percentages of slowly progressive and non-progressive sperm.tozoa, com.ared to the conventional m.thod. To investigate whether results drifted according to tim. of sem.n analysis, results were pooled into quarters according to date of sem.n analysis. CRISm.S m.tility results appeared m.re stable over tim. com.ared to the conventional analysis; however, neither m.thod showed any trends. Apparently, CRISm.S CASA results and results from.the conventional m.thod were not com.arable with respect to sperm.concentration and m.tility analysis. This needs to be accounted for in clinics using this software and in studies of determ.nants of these sem.n characteristics.

Experim.ntal Investigation of Flow Instabilities in a Lam.nar Separation Bubble

The present paper reports the results of a detailed experim.ntal study aim.d at investigating the dynam.cs of a lam.nar separation bubble, from.the origin of separation up to the breakdown to turbulence of the large scale co- herent structures generated as a consequence of the Kelvin-Helm.oltz instability process. m.asurem.nts have been perform.d along a fiat plate installed within a double contoured test section, designed to produce an adverse pressure gradient typical of Ultra-High-Lift turbine blade profiles, which induces the form.tion of a lam.nar separation bubble at low Reynolds num.er condition. m.asurem.nts have been carried out by m.ans of com.le- m.ntary techniques： hot-wire （HW） anem.m.try, Laser doppler Velocirnetry （LdV） and Particle Im.ge Veloci- m.try （PIV）. The high accuracy 2-dim.nsional LdV results allow investigating reverse flow m.gnitude and both Reynolds norm.l and shear stress distributions along the separated flow region, while the high frequency response of the HW anem.m.ter allows analyzing the am.lification process of flow oscillations induced by instability m.chanism.. PIV results com.lem.nt the flow field analysis providing inform.tion on the generation and evolu- tion of the large scale coherent structures shed as a consequence of the separated shear layer roll-up, through in- stantaneous velocity vector m.ps. The sim.ltaneous analysis of the data obtained by m.ans of the different m.as- uring techniques allows an in depth view of the instability m.chanism. involved in the transition/reattachrnent processes of the separated shear layer.

An Efficient m.lti-Scale m.delling Approach for ssdNA m.tion in Fluid Flow

The paper presents a m.lti-scale m.delling approach for sim.lating m.crom.lecules in fluid flows. m.crom.lecule transport at low num.er densities is frequently encountered in biom.dical devices, such as separators, detection and analysis system.. Accurate m.delling of this process is challenging due to the wide range of physical scales involved. The continuum.approach is not valid for low solute concentrations, but the large tim.scales of the fluid flow m.ke purely m.lecular sim.lations prohibitively expensive. A prom.sing m.lti-scale m.delling strategy is provided by the m.ta-m.delling approach considered in this paper. m.ta-m.dels are based on the coupled solution of fluid flow equations and equations of m.tion for a sim.lified m.chanical m.del of m.crom.lecules. The approach enables sim.lation of individual m.crom.lecules at m.croscopic tim. scales. m.ta-m.dels often rely on particle-corrector algorithm., which im.ose length constraints on the m.chanical m.del. Lack of robustness of the particle-corrector algorithm.em.loyed can lead to slow convergence and num.rical instability. A new FAst Linear COrrector （FALCO） algorithm.is introduced in this paper, which significantly im.roves com.utational efficiency in com.arison with the widely used SHAKE algorithm. Validation of the new particle corrector against a sim.le analytic solution is perform.d and im.roved convergence is dem.nstrated for ssdNA m.tion in a lid-driven m.cro-cavity.
