Objective: To evaluate the protective effect of morin against pentylenetetrazol(PTZ)-induced tonic-clonic convulsions in mice. Methods: Swiss albino mice(18-22 g) was used to induce convulsions by intraperitoneal(i.p.) administration of PTZ(90 mg/kg). Mice were either pretreated with morin(10, 20 and 40 mg/kg) or vehicle(distilled water, 10 mg/kg) 45 min before PTZ administration. Various behavioral and biochemical parameters were assessed. Results: PTZ administration resulted in significant production(Pd mortality in mice. PTZ-induced increase in the duration of convulsion, onset of convulsion and mortality was inhibited significantly by morin(20 and 40 mg/kg) administration. The PTZinduced decrease in brain GABA, dopamine and Na+K+ATPase levels and increase in xanthine oxidase activity were inhibited significantly by morin(20 and 40 mg/kg) treatment. The increased levels of malondialdehyde and nitric oxide level were significantly decreased by morin(20 and 40 mg/kg) treatment. Also, reduced levels of superoxide dismutase and glutathione were increased significantly by morin treatment. Conclusions: Results of the present study indicate that morin showed its anti-convulsant effect via modulating the levels of brain GABA, Na^+K^+ATPase, and oxido-nitrosative stress. Thus, morin can be a potential candidate for further clinical evaluations as an anti-epileptic agent.

I have attempted to present you with many of the ways that in the United States we are addressing the issue of motor deficits in stroke survivors. Many of these techniques show promise. However,there is much work to be done in order to determine which techniques may be the most effective for cer-tain patients. It is also need to figure out the timing of many of these techniques in order to maximize their benefit. As this last slide shows,stroke survivors need to be "involved with their own rescue." without their motivation and practice,stroke survivors will never reach their maximal functional capacity. with new techniques and technologies,rehabilitation professionals can provide stroke survivors with the means to intensify their therapies to facilitate functional recovery,reorganize the brain and return them to a fulfilling quality of life.

Objective:To conduct a comparative analysis of the VP4 gene sequences of Indian wild type (06361,0613158,061060 and 0715880) and cell culture adapted(06361-CA,0613158-CA.061060- CA and 0715880-CA) G1P[8]rotavirus ***:Full-length VP4 genes of each of the four wild type G1P[8]rotavirus strains and their cell culture adapted counterparts displaying consistent cytopathic effect were subjected to RT-PCR amplification and nucleotide sequencing. Results:All four cell culture adapted G1P[8]rotavirus strains showed nucleotide and amino acid substitutions in the VP4 gene as compared to their wild type *** number of substitutions however,varied from 1-64 and 1-13 *** substitutions were distributed in both VP5* and VP8* subunits of VP4 gene respectively of permeabilizalion and hemagglutinaling activity. The presence of unique amino acid substitutions was identified in two of the four wild type(V377G. S387N in 061060 and 1644L in 0715880) and all four cell culture adapted(A46V in 0613158-CA. T60R in 06361-CA,L237V.G389V and Q480H in 061060-CA and S615G and T625P in 0715880-CA) strains for the first time in the VP4 gene of P[8]*** acid substitutions generated increase in the hydrophilicity in the cell culture adapted rotavirus strains as compared to their corresponding wild type ***:Amino acid substitutions detected in the VP4 genes of G1P[8]rotavirus strains from this study together with those from other studies highlight occurrence of only strain and/or host specific substitutions during cell culture adaptation. Further evaluation of such substitutions for their role in attenuation,immunogenicity and conformation is needed for the development of newer rolavirus vaccines.

Permanent magnet rings are presented, which exploit the image effect in the surrounding circular iron shields. The theory is given for a general permanent ring when the magnetization orientation at each coordinate angle ψ changes by =(n+1)ψ, where n is a positive or negative integer. For the uniformly magnetized case n=-1, the permanent ring produces no field in its bore, and the field is that of a dipole outside. when the ring is surrounded by a soft iron shield, its field becomes uniform in the bore, and zero outside the ring. The field can be varied continuously by moving the iron shield along the magnet axis. A small variable field device was constructed by using NdFeB permanent rings, which produced a field flux density of 0-0.5 T in the central region.

Background: Lack of an observable vertical impact peak in fore/mid-foot running has been suggested as a means of reducing lower extremity impact forces, although it is unclear if impact characteristics exist in other axes. The purpose of the investigation was to compare three-dimensional(3 d) impact kinetics among foot-strike conditions in over-ground running using instantaneous loading rate–time ***: Impact characteristics were assessed by identifying peak loading rates in each direction(medial–lateral(ML), anterior–posterior(AP),vertical, and 3 d resultant) following foot-strike instructions(fore-foot, mid-foot, subtle heel, and obvious heel strike). Kinematic and kinetic data were analyzed among 9 male participants in each foot-strike ***: Loading rate peaks were observed in each direction and foot-strike condition, differing in magnitude by direction(3 d resultant and vertical > AP > ML, p ≤ 0.031) and foot-strike: ML(fore-foot and mid-foot strike > obvious heel strike, p ≤ 0.032), AP(fore-foot and mid-foot strikes > subtle-heel and obvious heel strikes, p ≤ 0.023). In each direction, the first loading rate peak occurred later during heel strike running relative to fore-foot(p ≤ 0.019), with vertical and 3 d resultant impact durations exceeding shear(ML and AP, p ≤ 0.007) in each ***: Loading rate–time assessment identified contrasting impact characteristics in each direction and the 3 d resultant following foot-strike manipulations, with potential implications for lower extremity structures in running.

The so-called 'negative difference effect'(NdE) was often defined by the increasing rate of hydrogen evolution from magnesium(Mg) surface under anodic *** this work,a series of electrochemical tests and microstructure observations were performed to provide an evidence that the NdE of Mg-Li alloys can be retarded by increasing lithium ***,galvanostatic and potentiodynamic polarization experiments using Mg-xLi(x=4,7.5 and 14 wt%) alloys electrodes indicated that Mg-4 Li alloy maintained the enhancing NdE prior to anodic dissolution as that of conventional Mg ***,the emergence of β-Li phase weakened the NdE of duplex Mg-7.5 Li alloy at a low anodic current density,but it was still enhanced apparently after a high applied anodic value(more than 2 mA/cm^2).The surface observations,including the plane and cross-sectional morphologies,confirmed that the cracked surface film derived from the anodic dissolution resulted in the catalytic activity of NdE for Mg-4 Li and Mg-7.5 Li ***,the NdE of Mg-14 Li alloy was suppressed obviously after a prior applied anodic polarization,which was attributed to the persistent and integrated surface film which endured a higher level of applied anodic potential and current.

Optoacoustic tomography （PAT） is a two-dimensional medical imaging method that has the advantage of optical contrast and resolution of ultrasonic waves. The detection systems with a high sensitivity can be used for detecting small tumors, located deeply in human tissues, such as the breast. In this study, the sensitivity of existing ultrasonic detection systems has been compared experimentally with that by using thermoelastic waves as a broadband ultrasonic source. For the comparison, an optical stress transducer （OST）, a polyvinylidene difluoride （PVdF） sheet and a calibrated PVdF needle hydrophone were used. To ensure all of the detection systems interrogated by the same ultrasonic field, a small optical instrument that fixed the generating laser head was constructed. The sensitivity was evaluated by measuring signalto-noise ratios （SNRs） and noise equivalent pressures （NEPs）. The PVdF system, with a 4-kPa NEP has a 22 dB better performance than the OST. The OST showed nearly the same sensitivity as the hydrophone for detecting ultrasound waves at a 1-cm distance in water. PVdF detection system provides a useful tool for imaging of soft tissues because of its high sensitivity and broad detection range.

Cold ions of plasmaspheric origin have been observed to abundantly appear in the magnetospheric side of the Earth's magnetopause. These cold ions could affect the magnetic reconnection processes at the magnetopause by changing the Alfvén velocity and the reconnection rate, while they could also be heated in the reconnection layer during the ongoing reconnections. we report in situ observations from a partially crossing of a reconnection layer near the subsolar magnetopause. during this crossing, step-like accelerating processes of the cold ions were clearly observed, suggesting that the inflow cold ions may be separately accelerated by the rotation discontinuity and slow shock inside the reconnection layer.

In this paper,we present a model for grown-in point defects inside indium antimonide crystals grown by the Czochralski(CZ)*** model is similar to the ones used for silicon crystal,which includes the Fickian diffusion and a recombina-tion *** type of models is used for the first time to analyze grown-in point defects in indium antimonide *** temperature solution and the advance of the melt-crystal interface,which determines the time-dependent domain of the model,are based on a recently derived perturbation *** propose a finite difference method which takes into account the moving *** study the effect of thermal flux on the point defect patterns during and at the end of the growth *** results show that the concentration of excessive point defects is positively correlated to the heat flux in the system.
