Achieving excellent strength-ductility synergy in twinned NiCoCr medium-entropy alloy via Al/Ta co-doping

Alloying is an effective strategy to tailor microstructure and mechanical properties of metallic materials to overcome the strength-ductility trade-off *** this work,we combined a novel alloy design principle,*** pronounced solid solution hardening(SSH)based on the misfit volumes engineering,and simultaneously,architecting the ductile matrix based on the valence electron concentrations(vEC)criterion,to fulfill an excellent strength-ductility synergy for the newly emerging high/medium-entropy alloys(HEAs/MEAs).Based on this strategy,Al/Ta co-doping within NiCoCr MEA leads to an efficient synthetic approach,that is minor Al/Ta co-doping not only renders significantly enhanced strength with notable SSH effect and ultrahigh strain-hardening capability,but also sharply refines grains and induces abnormal twinning behaviors of(NiCoCr)_(92)Al_(6)Ta_(2) *** with the partially twinned NiCoCr MEA,the yield strength(σy)and ultimate tensile strength(σUTS)of fully twinned Al/Ta-containing MEA were increased by~102%to~600 MPa and~35%to~1000 MPa,respectively,along with good ductility beyond 50%.different from the NiCoCr MEA with deformation twins(dTs)/stacking faults(SFs)dominated plasticity,the extraordinary strain-hardening capability of the solute-hardened(NiCoCr)_(92)Al_(6)Ta_(2) MEA,deactivated deformation twinning,originates from the high density of dislocation walls,microbands and abundance of *** abnormal twinning behaviors,i.e.,prevalence of annealing twins(ATs)but absence of dTs in(NiCoCr)_(92)Al_(6)Ta_(2) MEA,are explained in terms of the relaxation of grain boundaries(for ATs)and the twinning mechanism transition(for dTs),respectively.

Feasibility and acceptability of wrist actigraph in assessing sleep quality and sleep quantity: A home-based pilot study in healthy volunteers

Purpose: This study aimed to determine the feasibility and acceptability of actigraphy to monitor sleep quality and quantity in healthy self-rated good sleeper adults at home-based settings. Method: Sixteen healthy volunteers (age > 18) were invited to participate. Each participant was provided with a wrist actigraph device to be worn for 24-hour/day for seven consecutive days to monitor their sleep-wake patterns. Actigraphy data were downloaded using-proprietary software to generate an individual-sleep report. Participants also completed a set of self-reported Health Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) using WHO (five) Well Being Index (WBI) questionnaires. Results: Actigraphy was well accepted by all participants. Only 43.8% of the participants achieved normal total sleep time (TST) and 62.5% had a mean sleep efficiency value below the normal range. despite a reduced quality of sleep among the participants, the self-reported HRQOL scores produced by the WHO-5 WBI showed a “fair” to “good” among the participants. Conclusions: To maintain healthy well-being, it is vital to have efficient and quality sleep. Insufficient and poor sleep may contribute to various health problems and hazardous outcomes. People often believe they have normal and efficient sleep, not realising they may be developing poor sleep habits. This study found that actigraphy can be easily utilized to monitor sleep-wake patterns at home-based settings. We proposed that actigraphy could be adapted for use in the primary care settings (e.g. community pharmacy) to improve the sleep health management in the community.

Perturbation analysis for pulsatile flow of Carreau fluid through tapered stenotic arteries

The pulsatile flow of blood in a tapered narrow artery with overlapping time-dependent stenosis is mathematically analyzed, modeling blood as Caxreau fluid. Perturbation method is employed for solving the resulting nonlinear system of equations along with the appropriate boundary conditions. The analytic solutions to the pressure gradient, velocity distribution, flow rate, wall shear stress and longitudinal impedance to flow axe obtained in the asymptotic form. The variation of the aforesaid flow quantities with respect to various physical parameters such as maximum depth of the stenosis, angle of tapering of the artery, power law index, Reynolds number, pulsatile amplitude of the flow and Weissenberg number is investigated. It is found that the wall shear stress and longitudinal impedance to flow increase with the increase of the angle of tapering of the artery, the maximum depth of the stenosis and pulsatile Reynolds number and these decrease with the increase of the amplitude of the flow, power law index and Weis- senberg number. The mean velocity of blood decreases significantly with the increase of the artery radius, maximum depth of the stenosis, angle of tapering of the artery.

Hepatic lipogranulomas in patients with chronic liver disease: Association with hepatitis C and fatty liver disease

AIM: To study the significance and clinical implication of hepatic lipogranuloma in chronic liver diseases, including fatty liver disease and hepatitis C. METHOdS: A total of 376 sequential, archival liver biopsy specimens were reviewed. Lipogranuloma, steatosis and steato-fibrosis were evaluated with combined hematoxylin and eosin and Masson’s trichrome staining. RESULTS: Fifty-eight (15.4%) patients had lipogranuloma, including 46 patients with hepatitis C, 14 patients with fatty liver disease, and 5 patients with other diseases. Hepatic lipogranuloma was more frequently seen in patients with hepatitis C (21%) and fatty liver disease (18%), and its incidence was significantly higher than that in control group (P d P vely). In addition, 39 out of the 58 patients with lipogranuloma were associated with steatosis and/or steato-fibrosis. Of the 18 lipogranuloma patients with clinical information available for review, 15 (83%) had risk factors associated with fatty liver disease, such as alcohol use, obesity, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes mellitus. Although the incidence of these risk factors was greater in patients with lipogranuloma than in control group (60%), it did not reach statistical significance. CONCLUSION: Hepatic lipogranuloma is not limited to mineral oil use and commonly associated with hepatic steatosis, hepatitis C and fatty liver disease. With additional histological features of steato-fibrosis, lipogranuloma can also be used as a marker of prior hepatic steatosis.

Effect of vanadium Microalloying on the HAZ Microstructure and Properties of Low Carbon Steels

Four Steels,C-Mn-0.05v,C-Mn-0.11v,C-Mn-0.03Nb and C-Mn were subjected to heat treatment to simulate the microstructure of a coarse grained heat affected zone (CGHAZ) and an intercritically reheated coarse grained heat affected zone (ICCGHAZ).This involved reheating to 1350°C,rapid cooling (Δt 8/5 =24s) to room temperature and then reheating to either 750°C or 800°*** toughness of the HAZs was assessed using both Charpy and CTOd *** features were characterised by optical,scanning` and transmission electron *** examinations of the Charpy and CTOd specimens were carried out to understand the micromechanism of fracture under different microstructural and test *** CGHAZ toughness was similar for the steels except that Steel C-Mn-0.05v had a slightly lower ITT compared to the *** toughness deteriorated in the ICCGHAZ for all the steels,again Steel C-Mn-0.05v had a superior toughness compared to the other three steels in both ICCGHAZ *** the level of vanadium to 0.11% caused a decrease in ICCGHAZ *** C-Mn-Nb exhibited a greater degradation of impact toughness after the intercritical *** presence of M-A constituents was the dominant factor in determining the toughness of the *** size and area fraction of the M-A constituents were the smallest in Steel *** vanadium level to 0.11% resulted in a greater area fraction of the M-A constituents,larger average and maximum sizes of M-A particles,and significantly more fields containing the *** addition of 0.031% Nb produced the largest M-A particles and the greatest area fraction for the steels tested.

WATER WAvES IN AN ELASTIC vESSEL

Linear and nonlinear analyses of water waves in an elastic vessel are carried out to study the dramatic phenomena of dragon Wash as well as related controllable experiments. It is proposed that the capillary edge waves are generated by parametric resonance, which is shown to be a possible mechanism for both rectangular an circular vessels. For circular vessel, the normal geometric resonance is also operating, thus greatly. enhance the dramatic effect. The mechanism of nonlinear mode-mode interaction is proposed far the generation of axisymmetric low-frequency gravity waves by the high-frequency external excitation. A simple model system is studied numerically to demonstrate explicitly this interaction mechanism.
