A comparative study of two methods for treatment of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo in the emergency department

Introduction: Posterior canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (PC-BPPV) is considered the mostcommon cause of peripheral vertigo in the emergency department (Ed). Although the canalith repositioning maneuver (CRM) is the standard of care, the most effective method to deliver it in the Ed hasbeen poorly ***: To compare two protocols of the Epley maneuver for the treatment of *** and methods: We prospectively recruited 101 patients with unilateral PC-BPPV on physical examination, randomizing them to either a single Epley maneuver (EM) (n ¼ 46) or multiple maneuvers(n ¼ 55) on the same visit. Measured outcomes included presence/absence of positional nystagmus,resolution of vertigo, and score on the dizziness handicap inventory (dHI) at follow-up evaluations. ThedHI was stratified into mild ( 30) and moderate-severe (>30).Results: Normalization of the dix-Hallpike maneuver at day 5 was observed in 38% of the single EMgroup and 44.4% in the multiple EM group (p ¼ 0.62). The dHI showed reduction from 42.2 (Sd 18.4) to31.9 (Sd 23.7) in the single EM group and from 43.7 (Sd 22.9) to 33.5 (Sd 21.5) in the multiple EM group(p ¼ 0.06). A higher number of patients improved from moderate-severe to mild dHI (p ¼ 0.03) in thesingle EM group compared to the multi-EM group (p ¼ 0.23).Conclusion: There was no statistically significant difference between performing a single EM versusmultiple EMs for treatment of PC-BPPV in the emergency department. The single EM approach isassociated with shorter physical contact between patients and examiner, which is logically safer in apandemic context.

This work focusing on studying the biocompatibility and the effect of gelatin porous scaffold on the characteristics of human osteoblast like cells, including proliferation, adhesion, scaffold-cell interaction and its potential to induce bone regeneration. Osteoblast like cells were seeded on gelatin/genipin scaffolds for 7, 14 and 21 days. Cell proliferation assay, light microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and high resolution scanning electron microscopy were carried to evaluate cell viability, cell adhesion and the production of extracellular matrix. Cell proliferation assay showed a high biocompatibility of the material. High resolution scanning electron microscopy and light microscopy showed a strong adhesion of MG63 ceils on the surface of gelatin scaffold and high penetration in the macroporosities of the material. TEM analysis showed an intense production of extracellular matrix protein. In vitro analysis indicated a good biocompatibility of the scaffold and presents it as a potential candidate material for tissue engineering.

Neural stem cells isolated from amyloid precursor proteinmutated mice for drug discovery

AIM: To develop an in vitro model based on neural stem cells derived from transgenic animals, to be used in the study of pathological mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease and for testing new ***: Neural stem cells(NSCs) were isolated from the subventricular zone of Wild type(Wt) and Tg2576 mice. Primary and secondary neurosphere generation was studied, analysing population doubling and the cell yield per animal. Secondary neurospheres were dissociated and plated on MCM Gel Cultrex 2d and after 6 d in vitro(dIVs) in mitogen withdrawal conditions,spontaneous differentiation was studied using specific neural markers(MAP2 and TuJ-1 for neurons, GFAP forastroglial cells and CNPase for oligodendrocytes). Gene expression pathways were analysed in secondary neurospheres, using the QIAGEN PCR array for neurogenesis, comparing the Tg2576 derived cell expression with the Wt cells. Proteins encoded by the altered genes were clustered using STRING web ***: As revealed by 6E10 positive staining, all Tg2576 derived cells retain the expression of the human transgenic Amyloid Precursor Protein. Tg2576 derived primary neurospheres show a decrease in population doubling. Morphological analysis of differentiated NSCs reveals a decrease in MAP2- and an increase in GFAP-positive cells in Tg2576 derived cells. Analysing the branching of TuJ-1 positive cells, a clear decrease in neurite number and length is observed in Tg2576 *** gene expression neurogenesis pathway revealed11 altered genes in Tg2576 NSCs compared to ***: Tg2576 NSCs represent an appropriate Ad in vitro model resembling some cellular alterations observed in vivo, both as stem and differentiated cells.

One or two things Restoration works about architecture： at Trajan＇s Market

One of the objectives of the redevelopment project for Trajan＇s Market, which spanned from 2000 to 2002, was to rearrange the market＇s accessibility and the visiting paths that connect and cross the entire site. The purpose was to extensively expose its beauty and thus invite more tounsts into the area. The project design consisted of a series of catwalks placed at different levels and was conceived with respect to three criteria：（1） the didactic significance of forms and materials; （2） the coherence between architectural forms, techniques, and matenals with the identity of the place; and （3） the possibility of removing, if necessary, newly added elements without damaging the relics. The project also involved the rearrangement and reconstruction of the former ＂giardino delle Mitizie＂（2002-2007） to allow public access to the archaeological stratification and to the ancient Roman street located at its bottom. Consequently, the vaults of the convent were suspended upon a system of steel beams, which, together with several wooden pillars, also support the glass roof of the space, offering a close view of the ancient Roman walls. The structure and architectural forms coincide, implying that each of these elements is necessary and genuine.
