FATIgUE LIVES FOR INdUCTION HARdENEd SHAFTS MATERIALS ACCORdINg TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL TEMPERATURES

Rotary bending fatigue tests were carried out with two kinds of materials, S43C and S50C, using the front engine and front drive shaft （FF shaft） of vehicle. The specimens were induction hardened about 1.0mm depth from the specimen surface, and the hardness value on the surface was about HRC56-60. The tested environment temperatures were -30, 25 and 80℃ in order to look over effect of the induction hardening and the environmental temperatures on the fatigue characteristics. The fatigue limit of induction hardened specimens increased more about 45% than non-hardened specimens showing that the endurances of S43C and S50C were 98.1 and 107.9MPa in non-hardened samples, 147.1 and 156.9MPa in hardened samplesrespectably. The maximum tensile and compressive stress on the small circular defect was about ＋250 and -450MPa respectively when circular defect is situated on top and bottom. The fatigue life increased 80, 25 and -30℃ in order regardless of hardening. In comparison of the fatigue lives on the basis of tested result at 25℃, the fatigue lives of non-hardened specimens decreased about 35%, but that of hardened specimens decreased about only 5% at 80℃ more than at 25℃. And fatigue life of non-hardened and hardened specimens were about 110% and 120% higher at -30℃ than that of 25℃. Based on the result of stress distribution near the defect, the tensile and compressive stress repeatedly generated by load direction were the largest on the small circular defect due to the stress concentration.

Immobilization of Penicillin g Acylase on Calcined Layered double Hydroxides

A hydrotalcite-like Mg 2+ /Al 3+ layered double hydroxide(LdH) material was prepared by means of a modified coprecipitation method involving a rapid mixing step followed by a separate aging process. LdH calcined at 500 ℃, denoted as CLdH, was characterized by XRd, IR and BET surface area measurements. CLdH has a poor crystalline MgO-like structure with a high surface area and porosity. CLdH was used as a support for the immobilization of penicillin g acylase(PgA). The effect of varying the immobilization conditions, such as pH, contact time and the ratio of enzyme to support, on the activity of the immobilized enzyme in the hydrolysis of penicillin g has been studied. It was found that the activity of the immobilized enzyme decreased slightly with decreasing pH and reached a maximum after a contact time of 24 h. The activity of the immobilized enzyme increased with increasing the ratio of enzyme to support. It was found that the adsorption of PgA inhibited the expected reaction of CLdH with an aqueous medium to regenerate a LdH phase. Its original activity(36%) after 15 cycles of reuse of the immobilized enzyme was retained, but no further loss in the activity was observed.

It is shown that a finite group g has four relative commutativity d.g.ees if and only if g/Z（g） is a p-group of order p3 and.g.has no abelian maximal subgroups, or g/Z（g） is a Frobenius group with Frobenius kernel and complement isomorphic to Zp × Zp and Zq, respectively, and the Sylow p-subgroup of g is abelian, where p and q are distinct primes.

Passive electrochemical hydrogen recombiner for hydrogen safety systems:prospects

This paper presents the concept of a passive electrochemical hydrogen recombiner(PEHR).The reaction energy of the recombination of hydrogen and oxygen is used as a source of electrical energy according to the operating principle for hydrogen fuel cells to establish forced circulation of the hydrogen mixture as an alternative to natural circulation(as is not utilized in conventional passive autocatalytic hydrogen recombiners currently used in nuclear power plants(NPPs)).The proposed concept of applying the physical operation principles of a PEHR based on a fuel cell simultaneously increases both productivity in terms of recombined hydrogen and the concentration threshold of flameless operation(the‘ignition’limit).Thus,it is possible to reliably ensure the hydrogen explosion safety of NPPs under all conditions,including beyond-design *** experimental setup was assembled to test a laboratory sample of a membrane electrode assembly(MEA)at various hydrogen concentrations near the catalytic surfaces of the electrodes,and the corresponding current–voltage characteristics were *** simplest MEA based on the Advent P1100W PBI membrane demonstrated stable performance(delivery of electrical power)over a wide range of hydrogen concentrations.

A Shrinkage Estimator for Combination of Bioassays

A shrinkage estimator and a maximum likelihood estimator are proposed in this paper for combination of bioassays. The shrinkage estimator is obtained in closed form which incorporates prior information just on the common log relative potency after the homogeneity test for combination of bioassays is accepted. It is a practical improvement over other estimators which require iterative procedure to obtain the estimator for the relative potency. A real data is also used to show the superiorities for the newly-proposed procedures.

Improvement of drill Performance in Metal Cutting Using MoST Solid Lubricant Coatings

Coated tools are widely used in today’s metal cutting industries and have significantly improved machining productivity through reducing operation costs and time. This paper presents the results of a systematic study of the performance of HSS drills coated with CrTiAIN and drills with a top solid lubricant coating of MoST?. The tests were performed on a Haas vertical machining centre under wet and dry cutting conditions to machine through holes in medium carbon steel workpieces. The feed force and torque were recorded throughout some of the tests using a force dynamometer, while the tool wear was monitored and measured. It was found that MoST? coatings even under accelerated conditions improve the tool life significantly based on their unique properties and very low friction.

graphite-like and diamond-like Carbon Coatings with Exceptional Tribological Properties

Two hard, carbon-based solid lubricant coatings, graphit-iC? and dymon-iC?, have been developed that offer considerable benefits for industry. Both of these new coatings have a high tribological load-bearing capacity, exceptional wear resistance and very low friction, even in dry or lubricant-starved contact. This is in contrast to many commercial diamond-like carbon, dLC coatings, which tend to be highly stressed and therefore brittle, making them unsuitable for high load bearing industrial applications. The development of the new solid lubricant coatings is described, and details of their tribological performance in dry, water and oil-lubricated environments are given. The structure of the coatings has been investigated and related to the tribological properties, and the mechanism for the low friction and wear rates is discussed. The coatings have been used to successfully improve the lifetime and efficiency of many highly loaded mechanical parts, including automotive fuel injection components, gears, bearings, tappets (cam followers), gudgeon (wrist) pins, etc. They also offer benefits for tooling and are widely used in forming or machining of non-ferrous alloys, and extensively on dies and moulds. Other industrial application areas include electrical devices that require either high conductivity or insulation, optical devices requiring abrasion resistance and surgical tools and implants.

Thermal Characteristics in the Cutting of Inconel 718 Superalloy Using CW Nd:YAg Laser

The objective of the this study is to investigate the effects of cutting parameters on thermal characteristics, including practical cutting regions, the formation of the kerfwidth and the heat transfer phenomenon, in the cutting of Inconel 718 super-alloy sheets using a CW Nd：YAg laser. From the results of the experiments, the influence of process parameters on both the practical cutting region and the kerfwidth has been examined. In addition, it has been shown that the kerfwidth of the specimen lies in the range of 0.53-0.61 mm. In order to examine characteristics of the heat transfer during the laser cutting process, a three-dimensional quasi-steady heat transfer analysis has been performed using the commercial code SYSWELd V9.0. From the results of the analysis, the influence of cutting parameters on the temperature distribution in the vicinity of the cut section has been quantitatively evaluated. Based on these results, optimal cutting conditions have been estimated.

Single-cell and spatial omics:exploring hypothalamic heterogeneity

Elucidating the complex dynamic cellular organization in the hypothalamus is critical for understanding its role in coordinating fundamental body functions. Over the past decade, single-cell and spatial omics technologies have significantly evolved, overcoming initial technical challenges in capturing and analyzing individual cells. These high-throughput omics technologies now offer a remarkable opportunity to comprehend the complex spatiotemporal patterns of transcriptional diversity and cell-type characteristics across the entire hypothalamus. Current single-cell and single-nucleus RNA sequencing methods comprehensively quantify gene expression by exploring distinct phenotypes across various subregions of the hypothalamus. However, single-cell/single-nucleus RNA sequencing requires isolating the cell/nuclei from the tissue, potentially resulting in the loss of spatial information concerning neuronal networks. Spatial transcriptomics methods, by bypassing the cell dissociation, can elucidate the intricate spatial organization of neural networks through their imaging and sequencing technologies. In this review, we highlight the applicative value of single-cell and spatial transcriptomics in exploring the complex molecular-genetic diversity of hypothalamic cell types, driven by recent high-throughput achievements.
