There is a need.to simultaneously preserv. ev.d.nce of interactions betw.en the biological community and.soil structural properties of a soil in as near an intact （natural） state as possible. Three d.hyd.ation techniques w.re implemented.and.assessed.for their ability to minimise d.sruption of both biological and.physical properties of the same arable soil sample. d.hyd.ation techniques applied.until samples w.re at constant w.ight w.re i） air-d.ying at 20℃ （Ad.; ii） -80 ℃ freeze for 24 h, follow.d.by freeze-d.ying （-80Fd.; and.iii） liquid.nitrogen snap freeze, follow.d.by freeze-d.ying （LNPd. and.w.re compared.to a moist control. Physical structure w.s d.termined.and.quantified.in three d.mensions using X-ray computed.tomography and.microbial phenotypic community composition w.s assessed.using phospholipid.fatty acid.（PLPA） profiling. This stud. confirms that any form of d.hyd.ation, w.en preparing soil for simultaneous biological and.physical analysis, w.ll alter the soil physical properties, and.cause some change in apparent community structure. Freeze-d.ying （both the LNFd.and.-80Fd.treatments） w.s found.to minimise d.sruption （w.en compared.to the moist control soil） to both the soil physical properties and.the community structure and.is a preferable technique to air-d.ying w.ich marked.y alters the size and.character of the pore netw.rk, as w.ll as the phenotypic profile. The LNFd.w.s the preferred.treatment ov.r the -80Fd.treatment as samples show.low.v.riability betw.en replicates and.a fast turn-around.time betw.en samples. Therefore snap freezing in liquid.nitrogen, follow.d.by freeze d.ying is the most appropriate form of d.hyd.ation w.en tw. sets of d.ta, both physical and.biological, need.to be preserv.d.simultaneously from a soil core.

In 2018,the STAR collaboration collected.d.ta from^(96)_(44)Ru+^(96)_(44)Ru and.(96)_(40)Zr+^(96)_(40)Zr at√^(S)NN=200 Ge v.to search for the presence of the chiral magnetic effect in collisions of *** isobar collision species alternated.frequently betw.en 9644 Ru+^(96)_(44)Ru and.(96)_(40)Zr+^(96)_(40)*** ord.r to cond.ct blind.analyses of stud.es related.to the chiral magnetic effect in these isobar d.ta,STAR d.v.loped.a three-step blind.analysis *** are initially prov.d.d.a"reference sample"of d.ta,comprised.of a mix of ev.nts from the tw. species,the ord.r of w.ich respects time-d.pend.nt changes in run *** tuning analysis cod.s and.performing time-d.pend.nt quality assurance on the reference sample,analysts are prov.d.d.a species-blind.sample suitable for calculating efficiencies and.corrections for ind.v.d.al≈30-min d.ta-taking *** this sample,species-specific information is d.sguised.but ind.v.d.al output files contain d.ta from a single isobar *** run-by-run corrections and.cod. alteration subsequent to these corrections are allow.d.at this *** these mod.fications,the"frozen"cod. is passed.ov.r the fully un-blind.d.ta,completing the blind.*** a check of the feasibility of the blind.analysis proced.re,analysts completed.a"mock d.ta challenge,"analyzing d.ta from Au+Au collisions at√^(S)NN=27 Ge v.collected.in *** Au+Au d.ta w.re prepared.in the same manner intend.d.for the isobar blind.*** d.tails of the blind.analysis proced.re and.results from the mock d.ta challenge are presented.
