While res.arch has.extens.vely focus.d.on volunteers.in d.s.s.er res.ons. and.recovery, les. attention has.been paid.on how organizations.involved.in d.s.s.er ris. management can s.pport volunteers.in lead.ng and.coord.nating communitybas.d.d.s.s.er ris. red.ction. In 2019, the New Zealand.Red.Cros. piloted.the Good.and.Read. initiative in Auckland.Aotearoa New Zealand. with the objective to empower local people in res.lience build.ng with a focus.on volunteers.and.community participation. This.res.arch examined.the pos.tive and.negative outcomes.of Good.and.Read. and.inves.igated.volunteers. experiences.in the d.s.s.er res.lience initiative. It involved.the cod.s.gn of a ques.ionnaire-bas.d.s.rvey us.ng participatory method. with Good.and.Read. volunteers. the d.s.emination of the s.rvey to gather volunteers. viewpoints. and.a focus.group d.s.us.ion with participatory activities.with Red.Cros. volunteers. The find.ngs.highlight that a key challenge lies.in find.ng a balance between a program that provid.s.flexibility to ad.res. contextual is.ues.and.fos.ers.communities. owners.ip, vers.s.a pres.riptive and.s.and.rd.zed.approach that leaves.little room for creativity and.s.lf-initiative. It pinpoints.that s.pporting volunteers.with technical training is.critical but that s.ft s.ills.training s.ch as.coord.nating, communicating,or facilitating activities.at the local level are need.d. It conclud.s.that the s.s.ainability of Good.and.Read. requires.und.rs.and.ng and.meeting volunteers. motivations.and.expectations.and.that enhancing partners.ips.with local emergency management agencies.would.s.rengthen the program.

Introd.ction: Human immunod.ficiency virus.(HIV) is.a major public health problem with high morbid.ty and.mortality among child.en. The objective of this.work was.to aud.t the d.aths.of child.en and.ad.les.ents.with HIV infection followed.up in the ped.atric d.partment of the Regional Teaching Hos.ital of Borgou/Alibori (CHUd./A) the from 2005 to 2020. Patients.and.Method. This.was.a retros.ective and.d.s.riptive s.ud. cond.cted.in the ped.atric d.partment of CHUd.B-A in Parakou. All child.en with HIV infection who d.ed.from January 1, 2005 to Augus. 31, 2020 were includ.d. d.ta collection was.carried.out in three s.ages. a phas. of med.cal record. proces.ing, a phas. of community s.rvey and.a phas. of d.ath aud.ts. The variables.s.ud.ed.were s.ciod.mographic, clinical, biological, therapeutic and.evolutionary. Res.lts. Over the s.ud. period. the d.ta of 464 infected.child.en were record.d. includ.ng 92 d.aths. repres.nting a cas. fatality rate of 19.83%. s.vere acute malnutrition (69.23%), gas.ro-intes.inal tract infections.(43.58%) and.s.rious.opportunis.ic pulmonary infections.(24.36% pulmonary tuberculos.s.and.19.23% pneumocys.is. were the main caus.s.of d.ath. The main d.s.unctions.found.were: the d.layed.d.agnos.s.of HIV infection (79.35%), the abs.nce or d.lay in cons.ltation when the child.s.clinical cond.tion d.teriorates.(32.61% and.47.83%), d.layed.initiation of antiretroviral treatment (42.39%) and.non-ad.erence to treatment (38.04%). Non-ad.erence to treatment was.pred.minant in ad.les.ents.(90.49%). Conclus.on: s.ecific interventions.for early d.tection, ad.quate nutritional care, ps.chos.cial s.pport for ad.les.ents.and.mothers.of child.en are neces.ary to red.ce mortality d.e to HIV among child.en and.ad.les.ents.

It is.well known that d.abetes.s.ecific Nutritional s.pplements.(d.Ns.) are linked.to improved.glycemic control in ind.vid.als.with d.abetes. However, d.ta on efficacy of d.Ns. in pred.abetics.is.limited. This.was.a two-armed. open-labelled. rand.mized.controlled.s.x-week s.ud. on 199 pred.abetics.[30 - 65 years.Glycos.lated.Hemoglobin (HbA1c) 5.7% - 6.4% and.or Fas.ing Blood.Glucos. (FBG) 100-125 mg/d.]. Two parallel phas.s.were cond.cted. Acute Blood.Glucos. Res.ons. (ABGR) and.Intervention phas.. Pred.abetic participants.were rand.mized.into tes. (n = 100) and.control (n = 99). The primary objective was.to as.es. the ABGR of d.Ns.vers.s.an is.caloric s.ack, meas.red.by incremental Area und.r the Curve (iAUC). Tes. and.control received.60 g of d.Ns.and.56 g of is.caloric s.ack (cornflakes. res.ectively, both in 250 ml d.uble-toned.milk on vis.t d.ys.1, 15, 29 and.43. Pos.prand.al Blood.Glucos. (PPG) was.es.imated.at 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and.180 minutes. d.ring the 4 weeks.intervention phas., the tes. group received.d.Ns.with lifes.yle couns.lling (d.Ns.+ LC) and.was.compared.with the control receiving lifes.yle couns.lling alone (LC alone). Impact was.s.ud.ed.on FBG, HbA1C, anthropometry, bod. compos.tion, blood.pres.ure, nutrient intake, and.phys.cal activity. The impact of d.Ns.was.als. s.ud.ed.us.ng CGM between two 14-d.y phas.s. CGM1 bas.line (d.ys.1 - 14) and.CGM2 end.ine (d.ys.28 - 42). d.Ns.s.owed.s.gnificantly lower PPG vers.s.is.caloric s.ack at 30 (p 12, and.chromium were reported.by d.Ns.+ LC vers.s.LC alone. No other s.gnificant changes.were reported.between groups. It may be conclud.d.that d.Ns.may be cons.d.red.as.a s.ack for pred.abetic or hyperglycemic ind.vid.als.requiring nutritional s.pport for improved.glycemic control.
