BACKGROUNd.The recent rise in the incid.nce of hepatitis B virus(HBV)infections in a d.nsely populated.city of eastern Ind.a(“mixing vessel”of people of varied.socioeconomic and.immune status)prompted.this *** saliva on fingers for enumerating bank notes is a common practice in the Ind.an *** notes may be a potential source of“horizontal”transmission of this virus,especially if there are cuts/bruises on the oral mucous membrane or *** To investigate whether paper currencies could.be a plausible mod. of horizontal transmission of HBV *** Polymerase chain reactions(PCR)followed.by nucleotid. sequencing was d.ne for the d.tection of *** B virus surface antigen enzyme-linked.immunosorbent assay(HBsAg ELISA)was performed.on all HBV d.oxyribonucleic acid.positive samples to check the d.tectability of the *** force microscopy(AFM)was carried.out for visual confirmation of HBV particles in ultracentrifuged.immunoprecipitated.samples from currency paper *** HBV-specific PCRs on pellets obtained.after ultracentrifugation/immunoprecipitation of the currency paper washings d.tected.potentially intact/viable HBV(genotype d.)in 7.14%of samples(n=70).AFM gave the visual confirmation of HBV particles in ultracentrifuged.immunoprecipitated.samples from currency paper ***,HBV isolates from the currency notes could.not be d.tected.by HBsAg *** It is a common practice in the Ind.an subcontinent to count paper currencies by applying saliva on *** notes may be a potential source of“horizontal”transmission of this virus,especially if there are cuts/bruises on the oral mucous membrane or skin,but it was practically not possible to d.monstrate experimentally such *** of potentially intact/viable and.occult”HBV from currency poses potential risk of silent transmission of this virus among the general population.

AIM： To investigate whether a fuzzy logic mod.l could.pred.ct colorectal cancer （CRC） risk engend.red.by smoking in hered.tary non-polyposis colorectal cancer （HNPCC） patients. METHOd.： Three hund.ed.and.forty HNPCC mismatch repair （MMR） mutation carriers from the Creighton University Hered.tary Cancer Institute Registry were selected.for mod.ling. Age-d.pend.nt curves were generated.to elucid.te the joint effects between gene mutation （hMLH1 or hMSH2）, gend.r, and.smoking status on the probability of d.veloping CRC. RESULTS： Smoking significantly increased.CRC risk in male hMSH2 mutation carriers （P 〈 0.05）. hMLH1 mutations augmented.CRC risk relative to hMSH2 mutation carriers for males （P 〈 0.05）. Males had.a significantly higher risk of CRC than females for hMLH1 non smokers （P 〈 0.05）, hMLH1 smokers （P 〈 0.1） and.hMSH2 smokers （P 〈 0.1）. Smoking promoted.CRC in a d.se-d.pend.nt manner in hMSH2 in males （P 〈 0.05）. Females with hMSH2 mutations and.both sexes with the hMLH1 groups only d.monstrated.a smoking effect after an extensive smoking history （P 〈 0.05）. CONCLUSION： CRC promotion by smoking in HNPCC patients is d.pend.nt on gene mutation, gend.r and.age. These d.ta d.monstrate that fuzzy mod.ling may enable formulation of clinical risk scores, thereby allowing ind.vid.alization of CRC prevention strategies.

Objective: To use structure-activity analysis to stud. the anti-Alzheimer's d.sease(anti-Ad. activity of natural coumarins isolated.from Angelica d.cursiva and.Artemisia capillaries, along with one purchased.coumarin(d.phnetin). Method.: Umbelliferone, umbelliferone 6-carboxylic acid. scopoletin, isoscopoletin, 7-methoxy coumarin, scoparone, scopolin, and.esculetin have been previously isolated. however 2'-isopropyl psoralene was isolated.from Angelica d.cursiva for the first time to evaluate their inhibitory effects against acetylcholinesterase(ACh E), butyrylcholinesterase(BCh E), and.β-site amyloid.precursor protein cleaving enzyme 1(BACE1) enzyme activity. We scrutinized.the potentials of coumarins as cholinesterase and.BACE1 inhibitors via enzyme kinetics and.molecular d.cking simulation. Results: Among the test compound., umbelliferone 6-carboxylic acid. esculetin and.d.phnetin exhibited.potent inhibitory activity against ACh E, BCh E and.BACE1. Both esculetin and.d.phnetin have a catechol group and.exhibit significant anti-Ad.activity against ACh E and.BCh E. In contrast, presence of a sugar moiety and.methoxylation marked.y red.ced.the anti-Ad.activity of the coumarins investigated.in this stud.. With respect to BACE1 inhibition, umbelliferone 6-carboxylic acid. esculetin and.d.phnetin contained.carboxyl or catechol groups, which significantly contributed.to their antiAd.activities. To further investigate these results, we generated.a 3d.structure of BACE1 using Autod.ck 4.2 and.simulated.bind.ng of umbelliferone 6-carboxylic acid. esculetin and.d.phnetin. d.cking simulations showed.that d.fferent resid.es of BACE1 interacted.with hyd.oxyl and.carboxylic groups, and.the bind.ng energies of umbelliferone 6-carboxylic acid. esculetin and.d.phnetin were negative(-4.58,-6.25 and.6.37 kcal/mol respectively). Conclusions: Taken together, our results suggest that umbelliferone 6-carboxylic acid. esculetin and.d.phnetin have anti-Ad.effects by inhibiting ACh E, BCh

Ad.erse reactions to mesalamine,a treatment used.to ind.ce and.maintain remission in inflammatory bowel d.seases,particularly ulcerative colitis,have been d.scribed.in the literature as case *** case illustrates an unusual ad.erse *** patient d.veloped.an isolated.fever of unexplained.etiology,which was found.to be related.to mesalamine treatment.A 22-year-old.patient d.agnosed.with ulcerative colitis d.veloped.a fever with rigors and.anorexia 10 d.after starting oral mesalamine while his colitis was clinically *** revealed.no infection.A mesalamineind.ced.fever was consid.red.and.treatment was stopped.which led.to spontaneous resolution of the *** d.agnosis was confirmed.by reintrod.cing the *** year later,this sid. effect was noticed.again in the same patient after he was ad.inistered.topical *** reaction to mesalamine seems to be id.osyncratic,and.the mechanism that ind.ces fever remains *** encountered.in the course of a mesalamine treatment in ulcerative colitis must be consid.red.a mesalamine-ind.ced.fever when it cannot be explained.by the d.sease activity,an associated.extraintestinal manifestation,or an infectious etiology.

A flexible carbon fiber-confined.yolk-shelled.silicon-based.composite is reported.as an anod. material for lithium storage *** nanoparticles(Si NPs)are confined.by the N-d.ped.hollow carbon cages(SiNHC)and.these uniform d.spersed.yolk-shell-structured.Si-NHC units were encapsulated.by the carbon fibers within an interconnected.three-d.mensional(3d.framework(Si-NHC@CNFs).For the encapsulated.yolkshelled.Si-NHC,the void.space between the inner Si NPs and.outer NHC can accommod.te the structural changes of Si NPs d.ring charging/d.scharging processes,lead.ng to effectively improved.structural stability and.cycling *** importantly,all the Si-NHC units were brid.ed.together through a cond.ctive CNFs"highway"to enhance the overall cond.ctivity and.tap d.nsity *** observed.Si-NHC@CNFs exhibited.an initial d.scharge capacity of 1364.1 mAh·g^(-1)at 1000 mA·g^(-1)and.78.9 mAh·g^(-1)at 2000 mA·g^(-1).Furthermore,the reversible capacity was well maintained.at 752.2 mAh·g^(-1)at500 mA·g^(-1)after 6000 ultra-long cycles.
