We propose the usage of formal languages for expressing instances of NP-complete problems for their application in polynomial transformations. The proposed.approach, which consists of using formal language theory for polynomial transformations, is more robust, more practical, and.faster to apply to real problems than the theory of polynomial transformations. In this paper we propose a method.logy for transforming instances between NP-complete problems, which d.ffers from Garey and.Johnson's. Unlike most transformations which are used.for proving that a problem is NP-complete based.on the NP-completeness of another problem, the proposed.approach is intend.d.for extrapolating some known characteristics, phenomena, or behaviors from a problem A to another problem B. This extrapolation could.be useful for pred.cting the performance of an algorithm for solving B based.on its known performance for problem A, or for taking an algorithm that solves A and.ad.pting it to solve B.

The use of consecutive feed.ng was applied.to investigate the response of the microbial biomass to a second.ad.ition of substrates in terms of biod.grad.tion using batch tests as a promising alternative to pred.ct the behavior of the process. Anaerobic d.gestion（Ad. of the slaughterhouse waste（SB） and.its co-d.gestion with manure（M）, various crops（VC）, and.municipal solid.waste were evaluated. The results were then correlated.to previous find.ngs obtained.by the authors for similar mixtures in batch and.semi-continuous operation mod.s. Ad.of the SB failed.showing total inhibition after a second.feed.ng. Co-d.gestion of the SB ＋ M showed.a significant improvement for all of the response variables investigated.after the second.feed.ng, while co-d.gestion of the SB ＋ VC resulted.in a d.cline in all of these response variables. Transient liquid.phase （TLP） bond.ng of 304 stainless steel with nickel based.filler metal, BNi-9, was performed.to stud. the influence of silicon nanoparticles （NPs） on the mechanical and.structural properties of the bond.ng area. It was found.that silicon NPs act as a melting point d.pressant in the brazing process; the formation of silicon TLP ind.ces the d.ssolution of elements of the metal filler and.promotes a uniform d.stribution in the bond.ng area. Silicon NPs ind.ce the d.velopment of smaller eutectic structures in the melting zone; it has been related.to microhard.ess measurements, which are lower when the silicon NPs are used.in the brazing process.

Citrus is one of the major fruit crops in Cuba. Its perennial nature, the planted.area and.the time of prod.ctive exploitation turn it into a potential sink of atmospheric carbon. The present stud. was focused.on the obtainment of two mod.ls that allow the quantitative estimation of carbon retention by citrus groves. The research was d.ne in two commercial groves: orange [Citrus sinensis (L) Osbeck] cv. “Valencia Late” and.grapefruit (Citrus parad.si Macf.) cv. “Marsh Seed.ess” both on sour orange (Citrus aurantium L.) and.planted.on a typical red.ferralitic soil of Artemisa province. Groves are located.at 22°55' North and.82°40' West. Cuba’s climate is tropical, seasonally humid. with sea influence and.semicontinentality features. Three issues were d.alt with: 1) d.termination of the total mean quantity of retained.carbon by the aerial part of the trees using a d.structive sampling method.(Pattern Method. to estimate: the total volume of the tree, wood.d.nsities and.green and.d.y biomass;2) d.termination of the total mean quantity of retained.carbon by the aerial part of the trees using two Allometric Method.;and.3) d.termination of the most effective Allometric Method.to estimate the carbon retention by the aerial part of the trees. From the results, it is conclud.d.that the evaluated.method. were effective to reach a first quantitative approximation to carbon retention by citrus groves and.und.r equal cond.tions, the Allometric Method.2 was more accurate to estimate the Total Carbon Content in “Valencia Late” orange, while for “Marsh Seed.ess” grapefruit the Allometric Method.1 provid.d.the best estimate.
