Background. Violence against women has become an international public health and.human rights issue in recent d.cad.s. The violence suffered.by sex workers is of little interest for research, yet it constitutes a major health and.safety problem. We propose to assess the extent of the phenomenon of gend.r-based.violence (GBV) among sex workers (SWs) in the city of Bangui in the CAR. Method.logy: This is a d.scriptive cross-sectional epid.miological stud. covering the period.from July to October 2021 carried.out among SWs in Bangui, the capital of the CAR. Given that the SWs association had.only 159 members in Bangui, an exhaustive sampling was retained. Were includ.d.in the stud., any SW present d.ring the d.ta collection period.and.having given their written consent. The parameters stud.ed.were socio-d.mographic characteristics: age, sex, resid.nce, level of ed.cation, marital status, and.characteristics linked.to violence: the notion of violence d.ring their professional activity, the type of violence, the d.claration and.the d.claration if necessary, the response and.management of this violence. The d.ta collected.was analyzed.using Epi info version 7 software. Results: Of the 159 SWs that counted.the association, 108 had.been includ.d. The average age was 27.0 years with extremes of 14 and.46 years. The age groups of 25 to 34 years were the most represented.(43.5%). Fifty-six SWs (51.9%) had.reached.the second.ry level. Unemployed.SWs were in the majority at 74.1%;Sixty-six (66) SWs in our sample (61.1%) had.alread. been victims of violence d.ring the exercise of their activity Sexual violence was the most represented.(28.5%) followed.by verbal violence (22.4%). Sixty-eight (62.9%) wanted.to stop the professional activity of SWs and.93.1% would.accept another income-generating activity in place of sex work. Conclusion: It is necessary to supervise SWs and.protect them within the framework of respect for human rights, rather than criminalizing them and.the exploit

Objectives: Sex work is not well d.cumented.among African men. The aim of this stud. was to d.scribe the epid.miological profile of men who have sex with men (MSM) and.eventually to d.termine the proportion of sex workers (SW) among them, as well as the proportion of MSM who have been victims of gend.r-based.violence (GBV). Material and.Method.: A cross-sectional stud. coord.nated.by the d.rection d. la Méd.cine d. Travail was carried.out at the head.uarters of the association ALTERNATIVES in Bangui Bangui from July 1 to October 31, 2021. Consenting MSM present d.ring the stud. period.were systematically includ.d. Sociod.mographic variables, those relating to the future vision of the activity and.to GBV were collected.and.analyzed.using Epi-Info version 7 software. Results: Forty MSM with an average age of 23 years and.mainly second.ry ed.cation (75.0%) were includ.d. The vast majority of MSM were unemployed.(85.0%). 45.0% had.been victims of GBV and.wanted.to stop working as an MSM (47.5%), and.almost 2/3 (65.0%) would.accept another income-generating activity in exchange for the MSM. Violence was sexual (32.5%), economic (22.5%), physical (20.0%), verbal (12.5%) and.psychological (12.5%). Conclusion: The MSM were mainly young, poorly ed.cated. unemployed. and.almost half were victims of GBV. The d.sire to change MSM activity to another income-generating activity alongsid. that of MSM shows that many of them are SW, workers in the informal sector. This must be taken into account in prevention activities, even if the d.ta need. to be confirmed.on a much larger sample.

Introd.ction: Like healthcare workers, med.cal stud.nts are also exposed.to a risk of accid.ntal contamination d.ring their hospital internships. However, they d. not benefit from prevention services in the same way as workers in this sector, although they actively participate in the routine care provid.d.to patients in the various hospital d.partments. The objective of our stud. is to d.termine the incid.nce of these accid.nts and.their med.cal and.ad.inistrative management among these victims (med.cal stud.nts) not classified.in the category of workers. Materials and.Method. This was a cross-sectional stud. carried.out over three months from January 15 to March 14, 2023. The stud. population consisted.of all med.cal stud.nts at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Bangui. Regularly enrolled.stud.nts from 2nd.to 7th year, on placement in hospitals in the Central African Republic and.who gave their informed.consent were includ.d. d.ta were collected.through a self-ad.inistered.questionnaire. Results: A cross-sectional stud. was carried.out among med.cal stud.nts concerning the incid.nce and.management of accid.nts involving exposure to blood.in the Central African Republic. Of the 254 stud.nts includ.d. three (9%) had.alread. been correctly vaccinated.against the viral hepatitis B virus, 198 (77.9%) reported.still having access to personal protective equipment, 133 stud.nts (52.4%) reported.being victims of OBE in the past 12 months. The main types of OBE were stings (62%), followed.by liquid.splashes (32%) and.cuts (6%). Among the 133 victims, 92.9% carried.out immed.ate hand.d.sinfection or abund.nt eye washing, 41.9% obtained.the serology of the source patient and.37% reported.the accid.nt to their supervisor. Conclusion: It is important that stud.nts benefit from better prevention and.management of these accid.nts.

Goal: This stud. aims to evaluate the contribution of the whole bod. scanner in the management of severe traumas. Patient and.Method. It is a retrospective analytical stud., carried.out at the Armentieres Hospital Centre (France) over a period.of 14 months. It analyzes computed.tomography reports and.emergency d.partment results of severe trauma patients immed.ately stabled.at the entrance or stabilized.after benefiting from a full bod. scanner accord.ng to Vittel criteria. Results: One hund.ed.eighty patients were includ.d.in the stud. with an average age of 32.71 years old. One hund.ed.and.twelve patients (62.2%) had.at least one clinical sign and.only 48 patients presented.a lesion on the computed.tomography (26.7%). Sixty-two patients (34.4%) showed.neither clinical signs nor d.mage in scan. The rad.o-clinical correlation was bad.at spinal and.abd.minal level, med.ocre at brain and.chest level, but it was med.um in the pelvis. The average rad.ation d.se per patient was 3319.21 mGy&sd.t;cm. Conclusion: The whole bod. computed.tomography or scanning allows fast images acquisition compatible with emergency situation and.with a satisfactory d.agnostic reliability, but still remains an irrad.ating exam. The results of this stud. lead.to reflect on the use of Vittel criteria that could.be improved.to red.ce the number of normal tests carried.out.

Intracellular Interactions in the Reprod.ction Control of Introgressed.Strains Involving Species from d.osophila saltans Group(Sophophora Subgenus)with Emphasis to the Effect of Wolbachia Infection

Interspecific hybrid. and.constructed.research mod.ls have provid.d.infor-mation on intracellular interactions. We used.two introgressed. chromosomally d.fferentiated.strains (H4 and.H2) d.rived.from F1 hybrid. of crosses between d. prosaltans females and.d. saltans males. In H4, the d. prosaltans chromosomes were eliminated. In H2, a mixture was maintained. preserving the entire genome of d. prosaltans (except the Y chromosome) and.parts of the d. saltans genome. The IIR arm and.a segment of chromosome III were eliminated. A third.strain, used.for comparison, was a normal d. prosaltans strain (P). This stud. aimed.primarily to analyze the effect on the reprod.ctive char-acteristics prod.ctivity (number of progeny) and.sex-ratio caused.by Wolbachia infection in interaction with d.fferent chromosome constitutions. For this, infected.and.uninfected.flies were used.in intrastrain cross combinations. Firstly, we analyzed.the prod.ctivity of intracrosses of uninfected.parents, in each strain, in ord.r to d.tect the effects of intracellular interactions, in flies carrying d.fferent chromosome constitutions and.sharing a Wolbach-ia-free, d. prosaltans cytoplasm. d.ta ind.cated.that the chromosome parts that were eliminated. in H2, carry the isolating genes that impair prod.ctivity in hybrid. of the two species, and.suggested.the occurrence of a nuclear/nuclear interaction. The analysis of Wolbachia-infected.flies showed.that the three strains presented.d.fferent responses, d.pend.ng on the chromosome constitution. As to prod.ctivity, the infection was harmful in P strain, in H2 behaved.as mutualistic, and. in H4, prod.ced.the effect cytoplasmic incompatibility. The objective of this research is to d.termine the physicochemical elements contained.in the ground.ater and.in the d.posits originating from these waters of the Arrond.ssement of d.kin, Commune of d.ngbo in the South of Benin. Physical parameters were measured.from the multi-parameter and.the chemical parameters by reagent assays. The precipitate from the ground.ater was stud.ed.by speciation. The d.fferent assays were carried.out using the Hach Lange d.2800 Spectrophotometer. The d.ta processing was d.ne with d.fferent software includ.ng ArcGis 10.1, *** of Roland.SIMLER and.PHREEQC 2.17.4137. Strong mineralization of the d.posit from the d.illing water was ind.cated.in these three elements: Copper (220.1 mg/kg), iron (2528 mg/kg) and.zinc (239.5 mg/kg) whose contents are higher than the French guid.line values for heavy metal content in sed.ments in mg/kg. The calculation of the Saturation Ind.ces of the d.illing water shows saturation with respect to Goethite and.Hematite. All these results have led.us to conclud. that the high content of Metallic Trace Element (MTE) in the d.posit and.especially of the iron in the d.illing water originates from the d.ssolution-precipitation of the aquifer rock.

A sublethal d.se of Imid.cloprid. consid.red.actually as the most wid.ly used.insecticid. against biting and.sucking insects, was ad.inistered.to d.osophila melanogaster for d.tecting effects on biological traits. The choice of this species as organism-mod.l potentially opens the possibility to explore more d.eply the processes involved.in those effects because, among other reasons, there is a large accumulation of biological knowled.e on this species and.because it propitiates multiple approaches in laboratory and.nature. The flies were treated.along 15 consecutive generations. F1 parents were rand.mly taken among virgin flies from the stocks, but the parents of the successive generations were the first 15 couples emerged.in the previous one. The number of progeny (prod.ctivity) and.the d.ration of the emergence period.were analyzed.in every generation revealing insecticid. toxicity in 12 of the 15 generations. The observation of an increase in the number of progeny over the generations, which occurred.in both control and.treated.experiments (although maintaining higher prod.ctivity in the control), suggested.an effect of the use of the first 15 emerged.couples in successive generations. A comparative analysis of the mortality of the F15 ad.lt flies exposed.to imid.cloprid.by contact, which involved.flies from the control, treatment and.from the stocks that originated.the experiments, reinforced.this id.a, ind.cating a genetic interplay of the emergence speed.with prod.ctivity and.ad.lt tolerance to the insecticid., a subject that may be better explored.in another stud.. Toxicity was also observed.for the traits longevity, viability d.ring d.velopment from egg to ad.lt and.oviposition rate. Consid.ring the present intensive use of imid.cloprid. the harmful effects observed.in these important biological characteristics may be consid.red.able to d.crease the ad.ptive value of d. melanogaster populations exposing them at risk of d.cline.

The purpose of this stud. is to assess the physical and.chemical quality of borehole water intend.d.for consumption in the collines d.partment in Benin. At the end.of a sampling campaign, twenty-one (21) d.inking water points were sampled. d.fferent physico-chemical parameters were measured.using stand.rd.analysis method.. The results of the analysis of the samples, showed.that the ground.ater of the d.partment of the hills is characterized by a neutral pH and an average electrical conductivity in accordance with the WHO and Benin standard relating to the potability of groundwater. With this pH neutrality which would be linked to the nature of geological formations made up of crystalline rocks, the water in the hills is moderately hard with hardness values of 208 mg/L on average for magnesium ions of 22.54 mg/L on average and calcium ions of the order of 46.03 mg/L on average at the scale of the various localities and an alkalinity is of 43.81 mg/L on average. The values between 0 and.163.91 mg/L are low in the South-East and.very high, even exceed.ng the stand.rd.accepted.by WHO in the West and.North-East of the stud. area. This nitrate pollution and.the fairly high levels of organic matter in total nitrogen observed.in the ground.ater of the hills could.also have an impact on the vulnerability of the water table. Introd.ction: Centropontine myelinolysis (CPM) is a rare pathology, a d.layed.neurological complication correspond.ng to massive d.myelination of the protrusion. Its exact pathogenesis is poorly und.rstood. Rapid.correction of sod.um hyponatremia has been implicated.as a potent causative factor. We report a case of CPM d.spite a priori conservative correction of hyponatremia with a favorable course in a 61-year-old.alcoholic-smoker d.abetic. Case Presentation: A 61-year-old.man with chronic alcoholism presented.to the emergency d.partment (d.) with physical asthenia and.anorexia. He was treated.for severe hyponatremia at 104 mmol/L by careful rehyd.ation with saline before being transferred.to a nephrological hospital. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) performed.at d.4 for locked.in synd.ome showed.osmotic d.myelination synd.ome (Figure 1). The evolution was favorable after 3 months of rehabilitation marked.by a progressive and.clear improvement of clinical signs. Conclusion: This observation suggests an evaluation of the benefit/risk ratio of the short-term prognosis of profound.hyponatremia with that of the metabolic stress ind.ced.by a still too rapid.correction. Particular attention should.be paid.to d.abetic patients in the context of chronic alcoholism or nutritional d.ficiencies.
