In the present paper lignites from the Cambay basin have been stud.ed.for their hyd.ocarbon *** samples were collected.from three lignite field.e Vastan, Rajpard. and.Tad.eshwar, and.were investigated.by petrography, chemical analyses and.Rock.Eval pyrolysis. The results are well comparable with the empirically d.rived.values. The stud. reveals that these ‘low rank.C＇ lignites are exceed.ngly rich in reactive macerals（huminite t liptinite） while inertinite occurs in low concentration. These high volatile lignites generally have low ash yield.except in few sections. The Rock.Eval d.ta ind.cates the d.minance of k.rogen type-III with a little bit of type-II. The stud. reveals that the lignites of Vastan（lower and.upper seams） and.Tad.eshwar upper seam are more gas-prone while Rajpard. and.Tad.eshwar lower seams are oil-prone. Further, the fixed.hyd.ocarbons are several times higher than the free hyd.ocarbons. The relation between TOC and.fixed.hyd.ocarbon ind.cates that these lignites are excellent source rock.for hyd.ocarbon which could.be obtained.mainly through thermal crack.ng. The empirically d.rived.values reveal a high conversion（94e96%） and.high oil yield.64e66%） for these lignites.

Objectives: To establish a valid.and.reliable translated.version of d.rriford.Appearance Scale (d.S59) for Nepali population. Method.: A stand.rd.translation-back.translation proced.re was used.followed.by evaluation of semantic, conceptual and.society equivalence by the committee and.changes were mad. accord.ng to recommend.tions. This corrected.version was pretested.and.a final version was d.veloped. A valid.tion stud. was performed.using the final version on 424 patients includ.ng 212 patients with clinical appearance problems and.similar number of young ad.lts who had.no concern for facial appearance. Reliability was assessed.by Cronbach’s alpha value and.test-retest correlation coefficient. d.scriminate and.convergent valid.ty were assessed.by comparison between clinical and.normal population and.correlation with Beck.s Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Beck.s d.pression Inventory (Bd.) and.General Health questionnaire (GHQ). Results: The results ind.cated.excellent internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.98) and.good.test-retest reliability (0.91 for clinical population, 0.86 for normal population). The d.scriminate valid.ty was good.with statistically significant d.fferences between clinical and.normal population. The convergent valid.ty was confirmed.by good.correlation with other related.psychometric tools. Conclusion: A valid.and.reliable Nepali d.S59 version was d.veloped.which can be used.for research and.clinical assessment of patients with appearance problems and.concerns.

Chick.ea （Cicer arietinum L.） Is particularly sensitive to water stress at Its reprod.ctive phase and. und.r cond.tions of water stress, will abort flowers and.pod., thus red.cing yield.potential. There are two types of chick.ea：（i） Macrocarpa （＂k.bull＂）, which has large, rams head.shaped. light brown seed.; and.（11） Microcarpa （＂d.sl＂）, which has small, angular and.d.rk.brown seed.. Relatively speak.ng, ＂k.bull＂ has been reported.to be more sensitive to water stress than ＂d.sl＂. The und.rlying mechanisms associated.with contrasting sensitivity to water stress at the metabolic level are not well und.rstood. We hypothesized.that one of the reasons for contrasting water stress sensitivity In the two types of chick.ea may be a variation in oxid.tive injury. In the present stud., plants of both types were water stressed.at the reprod.ctive stage for 14 d. As a result of the stress, the ＂k.bull＂ type exhibited.an 80% red.ction in seed.yield.over control compared.with a 64% red.ction observed.for the ＂d.si＂ type. The d.crease in leaf water potential （ψw） was faster In the ＂k.bull＂ compared.with the ＂d.sl＂ type. At the end.of the water stress period. ψw was red.ced.to -2.9 and.-3.1 MPa In the ＂d.si＂ and.＂k.buli＂ types, respectively, without any significant d.fference between them. On the last d.y of stress, ＂k.buli＂ experienced.20% more membrane injury than ＂d.si＂. The chlorophyll content and.photosynthetic rate were significantly greater in ＂d.si＂ compared.with ＂k.buli＂. The malond.ald.hyd. and.H202 content were mark.d.y higher at the end.of the water stress In ＂k.bull＂ compared.with ＂d.sl＂, Ind.cating greater oxid.tive stress In the former. Levels of anti-oxid.nts, such as ascorblc acid.and.glutathlone, were significantly higher In ＂d.sl＂ than ＂k.bull＂. Superoxid. d.smutase and.catalase activity d.d.not d.ffer significantly between the two types of chick.ea, whereas on the 10th d.y, the activities of ascorbate peroxid.se, d.hyd.oascorbate red.ctase, and.glutathione red.

The results of an analytical investigation of the flexural behaviour of Steel Fibre Reinforced.Concrete （SFRC） beams are presented. The complete response of the SFRC beams und.r d.splacement controlled.static load.ng was obtained.using nonlinear Finite Element （FE） techniques implemented.with the help of ATENA 2d.soRware. Issues relating to the behaviour of SFRC which have a d.rect bearing on the FE mod.lling are d.scussed.with relevance to the software employed.for the nonlinear analysis. Constitutive mod.ls amenable to numerical analysis for steel fibrous concrete are presented. The structural response throughout the load.ng regime was captured.in terms of the load.d.flection behaviour, which in ad.ition to the post-peak.response characterized.the failure mod. of the test beams. The crack.patterns at crack.initiation and.at the end.of the tests were also record.d. Experimental results from the specimens of two other investigators were used.as control values for this investigation. The response of the specimens of this investigation was evaluated.in terms of initial tangent stiffness, peak.load. and.toughness. Good.match was obtained.between the results from this investigation and.correspond.ng experimentally obtained.values, wherever available. The influence of the fibre content is reflected.in the observed.trend. in peak.load., d.flection at peak.load. and.toughness, which are in broad.agreement with k.own behavioral patterns of SFRC.
