The efficient citral hyd.ogenation was achieved.in aqueous med.a using Pd.CMS and.alkali ad.itives like K2CO3. The alkali concentrations, reaction temperature and.the Pd.metal content were optimized.to enhance the citral hyd.ogenation und.r aqueous med.a. In the absence of alkali, citral hyd.ogenation was low and.ad.ition of alkali promoted.to ~92% hyd.ogenation without red.ction in the selectivity to citronellal. The alkali ad.ition appears to be altered.the pallad.um sites. The pore size d.stribution reveals that the pore size of these catalysts is in the range of 0.96 to 0.7 nm. The pallad.um active sites are also quite uniform based.on the TPR d.ta. The catalytic parameters are correlated.well with the activity d.ta.
