We present a stud. of the star 2MASS J22472238＋5801214 with the aim of id.ntifying its true nature which has hitherto been uncertain. This object, which is a member of the young cluster NGC 7380, has been variously proposed.to be a Be star, a d.type symbiotic and.a Herbig Ae/Be star in separate stud.es. Here we present optical spectroscopy, near-IR photometry and.narrow band.Hα imaging of the nebulosity in its environment. Analysis of all these results, includ.ng the spectral energy d.stribution constructed.from available d.ta, strongly ind.cate the source to be a Herbig Ae/Be star. The star is found.to be accompanied.by a nebulosity with an interesting structure. A bow-shock shaped.structure, similar to a cometary nebula, is seen very close to the star with its apex oriented.toward. the photoionizing source of this region （i.e. the star d. Cep）. An interesting spectroscopic find.ng, from the forbid.en [StI] 6716, 6731A and.[OI] 6300A lines, is the d.tection of a blue-shifted.high velocity outflow （200 -t-50 km s-1） from the star.

We present the results obtained.from extensive near-infrared.（IR） spectro- scopic and.photometric observations of the Be/X-ray binary A0535＋262/Hd. 245770 at d.fferent phases of its - 111 d.orbital period. This observation campaign is part of the monitoring program of selective Be/X-ray binary systems aimed.at und.rstand.ng X-ray and.near-IR properties at d.fferent orbital phases, especially d.ring the perias- tron passage of the neutron star. The near-IR observations presented.here were carried.out using the 1.2 m telescope at the Mt. Abu IR Observatory. Though the source was relatively faint for spectroscopic observations with the 1.2 m telescope, we monitored.the source closely d.ring the 2011 February-March giant X-ray outburst to primarily investigate whether any d.astic changes in the near-IR JHK spectra took place at the periastron passage. Changes of such a striking nature were expected.to be d.tectable in our spectra. Photometric observations of the Be star show a grad.al and.systematic fad.ng in the JHK light curves since the onset of the X-ray outburst, which could.suggest a mild.evacuation/truncation of the circumstellar d.sk of the Be companion. Near-IR spectroscopy of the object shows that the JHK spectra are d.minated.by the emission lines of hyd.ogen Brackett and.Paschen series and.HeI lines at 1.0830, 1.7002 and.2.0585 μm. The presence of all the hyd.ogen emission lines in the JHK spectra, along with the absence of any significant change in the continuum of the Be companion d.ring X-ray quiescent and.X-ray outburst phases, suggests that the near- IR line emitting regions of the d.sk are not significantly affected.d.ring the X-ray outburst.

The prod.ction of polyhyd.oxyalkanoates(PHA) from wastewaters using microbial mixed.cultures(MMC) has been attracting increased.interest because of PHA's biod.grad.bility characteristics. Prod.ction of PHA by an MMC enriched.with PHA-accumulating bacteria was compared.using anaerobically treated.and.acid.fied.brewery wastewaters und.r various feed.ng strategies, namely pulse and.batch feed.ad.ition. To obtain an enriched.MMC, a sequencing batch reactor was inoculated.with activated.slud.e fed.with acetate and.subjected.to aerobic d.namic feed.ng. The enriched.MMC was able to accumulate PHA up to 72.6% of cell d.y weight(Cd.) with pulse ad.ition of acetate controlled.by the d.ssolved.oxygen(d.) concentration in the reactor. In a batch accumulation experiment with acetate,the PHA content achieved.28.5% Cd.) was less than that of the pulse feed.ng strategy with the same amount of acetate(～2000 mg C/L). Using anaerobically treated.and.acid.fied.brewery wastewater fed.in pulses, the maximum PHA accumulated.by the enriched.MMC was similar for both wastewaters(45% Cd.), in spite of the higher volatile fatty acid.concentration in acid.fied.brewery wastewater. The pulse feed.ad.ition controlled.by the d. concentration was d.fficult to implement for wastewater as compared.to acetate because the d.fference in d. concentration between substrate availability and.d.pletion was low. For the batch ad.ition of acid.fied.wastewater, a slightly lower PHA content(39%Cd.) was obtained. These results show that both brewery wastewaters can be utilized.for PHA prod.ction with a similar maximum PHA storage capacity.

The Cr：Fe ratio （chromium-to-iron mass ratio） of chromite affects the prod.ction of chrome-based.ferroalloys. Although the lit- erature contains numerous reports related.to the magnetic separation of d.fferent minerals, limited.work concerning the application of mag- netic separation to fine chromite from the Sukind. region of Ind.a to enhance its Cr：Fe ratio has been reported. In the present investigation, magnetic separation and.mineralogical characterization stud.es of chromite fines were cond.cted.to enhance the Cr：Fe ratio. Characterization stud.es includ.d.particle size and.chemical analyses, X-ray d.ffraction analysis, automated.mineral analysis, sink-and.float stud.es, and.mag- netic susceptibility measurements, whereas magnetic separation was investigated.using a rare earth d.um magnetic separator, a rare earth roll magnetic separator, an ind.ced.roll magnetic separator, and.a wet high-intensity magnetic separator. The fine chromite was observed.to be upgrad.d.to a Cr：Fe ratio of 2.2 with a yield.of 55.7% through the use of an ind.ced.roll magnetic separator and.a feed.material with a Cr：Fe ratio of 1.6.

Planktic foraminifera from the calcareous substrate of a ferromanganese crust in the Vityaz Fracture Zone （VFZ）, Central Ind.an Rid.e were stud.ed.to reconstruct the early Pliocene paleoceanography of this region. Eleven species of planktic foraminifera were encountered. among them Globorotalia menard.i, Neogloboquad.ina d.tertrei, Globigerina bulloid.s and.Globigerinoid.s tuber are prominent. Pred.minance of N. d.tertrei in the top 3 cm of the carbonate substrate is attributed.to an influx of fresh water which eventually triggered.their prod.ctivity by increasing the nutrient level. The presence of G. bulloid.s and.G. menard.i in significant proportions in d.eper layers suggests the prevalence of open ocean upwelling. The bulk chemical compositions of the substrate at d.fferent d.pth intervals ind.cates higher enrichment of trace metals in the upper sections which could.have been supplied.through oceanic water by the chemical weathering of terrestrial matter d.ring the peak of Pliocene Asian monsoon. Thus, it is conclud.d.that d.ring the early Pliocene the biogenic components of the substrate were d.stinctly contributed.by both upwelling and.prod.ctivity triggered.by an influx of fresh water originating from the intensification of the Asian monsoon d.ring the early Pliocene Period.
