TiBCN films were deposited on Si(100) and cemented carbide substrates by using multi-cathodic arc ion plating in C_2H_2 and N_2atmosp^here. Their structure and mechanical properties were studied systematically under different N_2 flow rates. The results showed that the Ti BCN films were adhered well to the substrates. Rutherford backscattering sp^ectroscopy was employed to determine the relative concentration of Ti, B, C and N in the *** chemical bonding states of the films were explored by X-ray photoelectron sp^ectroscopy, revealing the presence of bonds of Ti N, Ti(C,N), BN, pure B, sp^2C–C and sp^3C–C, which changed with the N_2 flow rate. Ti BCN films contain nanocrystals of Ti N/Ti CN and Ti B_2/Ti(B,C)embedded in an amorphous matrix consisting of amorphous BN and carbon at N_2 flow rate of up to 250 sccm.

TiBN coatings have huge potential applications as they have excellent properties with increasing modem industrial *** TiBN coatings were synthesized on cemented carbide,high speed steel and Si substrates by using cathodic arc plasma ion plating from pure TiB2 ceramic *** structure and mechanical properties of the TiBN coatings were significantly influenced by the nitrogen partial *** backscattering spectrometry demonstrates that the nitrogen content of the coating varied from 2.8% to 34.5% and highresolution electron microscopy images reveal that all coatings have the characteristic of nanocrystals embedded in an amorphous *** root-mean-square roughness of the coatings increases from 3.73 to 14.64 nm and the coefficients of friction of the coatings at room temperature vary from 0.54 to 0.73 with increasing nitrogen partial *** microhardness of the coating increases up to 35.7 GPa at 10 sccm N2 flow *** smallest wear rate is 2.65 ×10^-15m^3N^-1m^-1 which indicates that TiBN coatings have excellent wear *** adhesion test revealed that the TiBN coatings have good adhesion at low nitrogen partial pressure.

A Comparative Investigation on the Structural,Optical and Electrical Properties of SiO_2-Fe_3O_4 Core-Shell Nanostructures with Their Single Components

The SiO2-Fe3O4 core-shell nanostructures were synthesized by sol-gel chemistry. The morphological features of the nanostructures were examined by field emission scanning electron microscopy which revealed the core-shell nature of the nanoparticles. X-ray diffraction studies evidenced the formation of SiO2-Fe3O4 core-shell nanostructures with high degree of homogeneity. The elemental composition of the SiO2-Fe3O4 core-shell nanostructures was determined by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed the Si-O-Fe stretching vibrations. On analysis of the optical properties with UV-Vis spectra and Tauc＇s plot, it was found that the band gap of SiO2-Fe3O4 core-shell nanostructures diminished to 1.5 eV. Investigation of the electrical properties of the core-shell nanostructures using field-dependent conductivity measurements presented a significant increase in photoconductivity as compared to those of its single components, thereby rendering them as promising candidates for application as photo- electrodes in dye-sensitized solar cells.

We monitored the prevalence of endoparasitic infections of rodents in Punjab State, India, between January 2004and december 2005. Three species of wild rodents, namely the house rat, Rattus rattus (n = 42), the lesserbandicoot rat, Bandicota bengalensis (n = 34) and the Indian gerbil, Tatera indica (n = 15), were live-captured fromhouses and crop fields. Examination of various organs revealed that the highest rates of endoparasitic infectionoccurred in R. rattus (40.5%), followed by B. bengalensis (35.3 %) and then T. indica (20.0%), with an overallinfection rate of 35.2%. All three rodent species were found naturally infected with one or more species ofhelminths. Metacestodes (1–6) of Cysticercus fasciolaris (larvae of Taenia taeniaeformis) were found in all threerodent species (in the liver). In one male T. indica, numerous robust T. taeniaeformis metacestodes were found inoval sacs attached to the mesentery and the abdominal wall, an unusual site. The cauda epididymal fluid of thesame gerbil was also found to be infected with a very rare species of strongylid nematode, which could not beidentified to genus or species level. It is possible that this nematode is transmitted sexually and thus may affect thereproductive potential of gerbils. This appears to be the first report of this phenomenon. In one B. bengalensisindividual, the intestine was found to be obstructed with an acanthocephalan, Moniliformis moniliformis, withconcurrent infection with C. fasciolaris in the form of multiple cysts in the liver. Although no natural protozoaninfection was found in these field rodents, experimental Trypanosoma evansi infection has been established in allthree species with high pathogenicity, and the possibility of sexual transmission was supported by the presence of *** in the cauda epididymal fluid of male rats.

In-depth investigation on physicochemical and thermal properties of magnesium(Ⅱ) gluconate using spectroscopic and thermoanalytical techniques

Magnesium gluconate is a classical organometallic pharmaceutical compound used for the prevention and treatment of hypomagnesemia as a source of magnesium ion. The present research described the in-depth study on solid state properties viz. physicochemical and thermal properties of magnesium gluconate using sophisticated analytical techniques like Powder X-ray diffraction(PXRd), particle size analysis(PSA),Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) spectrometry, ultraviolet–visible(UV–Vis) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis(TGA)/differential thermogravimetric analysis(dTG), and differential scanning calorimetry(dSC).Magnesium gluconate was found to be crystalline in nature along with the crystallite size ranging from 14.10 to47.35 nm. The particle size distribution was at d(0.1)=6.552 μm, d(0.5)=38.299 μm, d(0.9)=173.712 μm and d(4,3)=67.122 μm along with the specific surface area of 0.372 m^2/g. The wavelength for the maximum absorbance was at 198.0 nm. Magnesium gluconate exhibited 88.51% weight loss with three stages of thermal degradation process up to 895.18 °C from room temperature. The TGA/dTG thermograms of the analyte indicated that magnesium gluconate was thermally stable up to around 165 °C. Consequently, the melting temperature of magnesium gluconate was found to be 169.90 °C along with the enthalpy of fusion of 308.7 J/***, the authors conclude that the achieved results from this study are very useful in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries for the identification, characterization and qualitative analysis of magnesium gluconate for preformulation studies and also for developing magnesium gluconate based novel formulation.
