Erbium and ytterbium doped barium titanate nanopowders were prepared using the hydrothermal method. A barium titanate structure doped with rare earth ions manifested new characteristics and improved the field of application of optical devices such as trichromatic tubes, lCD displays, lamps, and infrared lasers. In this work, BaTiO3：Er3＋ and BaTiO3：Yb3＋ were prepared using barium chloride [BaCl2], titanium butoxide [C16H36O4Ti], erbium chloride [ErCl3] and ytterbium chloride [YbCl3] as precursors. Anhydrous methanol was employed as a solvent. Metallic potassium was used to promote solubility in the system and increase the pH to 13. This method yielded the formation of a predominantly cubic structure in both Er3＋ and Yb3＋ doped BaTiO3 powders. Characteristic bondings of BaTiO3 were observed with FT-IR spectroscopy. The predominantly cubic structure was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and micro-Raman analyses. The particle size（～30 nm） was estimated using the Scherrer equation and X-ray diffraction data. The results were presented and discussed.

Traffic accidents are one of the most serious problems worldwide,being one of the l.ading causes of death and economic loss in the ***-and middle-income countries,mainly their medium-sized cities,are among the most affected by this problem.93%of traffic accidents occur in low and middle-income countries,even though these countries have approximately 60%of the world’s *** occurs mainly because in these types of countries,especially in medium-sized cities(target context),there are no ideal conditions for driving,such as adequate road infrastructure,good condition of vehicles,and rigorous safety *** data analysis techniques including machine l.arning(Ml)have increasingly been used to solve this *** driving(ND)can be applied as a data collection method that provides information on traffic *** commonly uses a vehicle’s kinematic data to detect high-risk driving behaviors that could cause an *** objectives of this document are to present a review of different alternatives that help in data collection and creation of intelligent solutions related to detection of possible traffic accidents,principally using ND;and to propose an intelligent collision risk detection system(ICRDS)for identification of areas with a high probability of TA in the target *** the review,it was possible to analyze and eval.ate the devices,variables and algorithms that help characterize a risk event in driving,considering the target *** development of a prototype of an ICRDS for a medium-sized city in a developing country is considered viable,considering the identified components,with the aim of identifying risk events in driving,and areas of high probability of accidents in the city.

Uncertainty Reduction Through Data Management in the Development, Validation, Calibration, and Operation of a Hurricane Vulnerability Model

Catastrophe models estimate risk at the intersection of hazard,exposure,and *** of these areas requires diverse sources of data,which are very often incomplete,inconsistent,or missing *** poor quality of the data is a source of epistemic uncertainty,which affects the vulnerability models as well.as the output of the catastrophe *** article identifies the different sources of epistemic uncertainty in the data,and elaborates on strategies to reduce this uncertainty,in particular through identification,augmentation,and integration of the different types of *** challenges are illustrated through the Florida Public Hurricane loss Model(FPHlM),which estimates insured losses on residential buildings caused by hurricane events in *** define the input exposure,and for model development,calibration,and validation purposes,the FPHlM teams accessed three main sources of data:county tax appraiser databases,National Flood Insurance Protection(NFIP)portfolios,and wind insurance *** data from these different sources were reformatted and processed,and the insurance databases were separately cross-referenced at the county level with tax appraiser *** FPHlM hazard teams assigned estimates of natural hazard intensity measure to each insurance *** efforts produced an integrated and more complete set of building descriptors for each policy in the NFIP and wind *** article describes the impact of these uncertainty reductions on the development and validation of the vulnerability models,and suggests avenues for data *** l.arned should be of interest to professionals involved in disaster risk assessment and management.

Fibrosis,or scar tissue development,is associated with numerous pathologies and is often considered a worst-case scenario in terms of wound healing or the implantation of a *** that remains is a disorganized,densely packed and poorly vascularized bundle of connective tissue,which was once functional *** creates a significant obstacle to the restoration of tissue function or integration with any ***,it is of paramount importance in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine to emphasize regeneration,the successful recovery of native tissue function,as opposed to repair,the replacement of the native tissue(often with scar tissue).A technique dubbed‘mitochondrial transplantation’is a burgeoning field of research that shows promise in in vitro,in vivo and various clinical.applications in preventing cell death,reducing inflammation,restoring cell metabolism and proper oxidative balance,among other reported ***,there is currently a lack of research regarding the potential for mitochondrial therapies within tissue engineering and regenerative ***,this review explores these promising findings and outlines the potential for mitochondrial transplantation-based therapies as a new frontier of scientific research with respect to driving regeneration in wound healing and host-biomaterial interactions,the current successes of mitochondrial transplantation that warrant this potential.and the critical questions and remaining obstacles that remain in the field.

Failure to Rescue as a Quality Metric in Congenital Heart Surgeries in a High-Complexity Service Provider Institution located in a Middle-Income Country

Background:Failure to rescue has been an effective quality metric in congenital heart ***,mor-bidity and mortality depend greatly on non-modifiable individual factors and have a weak correlation with better-quality *** aim to measure the complications,mortality,and risk factors in pediatric patients undergoing congenital heart surgery in a high-complexity institution located in a middle-income country and compare it with other institutions that have conducted a similar ***:A retrospective observational study was conducted in a high-complexity service provider institution,in Cali,*** pediatric patients undergoing any congenital heart surgery between 2019 and 2022 were *** main outcomes eval.ated in the study were complication,mortality,and failure to rescue *** and multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed with mortality as the outcome ***:We eval.ated 308 congenital heart *** the outcomes,201(65%)complications occurred,23(7.5%)patients died,and the FTR of the entire cohort was 11.4%.The presence of a postoperative complication(OR 14.88,CI 3.06–268.37,p=0.009),age(OR 0.79,CI 0.57–0.96,p=0.068),and urgent/emergent surgery(OR 8.14,CI 2.97–28.66,ples in predicting ***:Failure to rescue is an effective and comparable quality measure in healthcare institutions and is the major contributor to postoperative mortality in congenital heart *** our higher mortality and complication rate,we obtained a comparable failure to rescue rate to high-income countries’health institutions.

Copolymer-1（Cop-1） is a peptide with immunomodulatory properties, approved by the Food and Drug Administration of United States in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. Cop-1 has been shown to exert neuroprotective effects and induce neurogenesis in cerebral ischemia models. Nevertheless, the mechanism involved in the neurogenic action of this compound remains unknown. The choroid plexus（CP） is a network of cells that constitute the interphase between the immune and central nervous systems, with the ability to mediate neurogenesis through the rel.ase of cytokines and growth factors. Therefore, the CP could play a role in Cop-1-induced neurogenesis. In order to determine the participation of the CP in the induction of neurogenesis after Cop-1 immunization, we eval.ated the gene expression of various growth factors（brain-derived neurotrophic factor, insulin-like growth factor 1, neurotrophin-3） and cytokines（tumor necrosis factor alpha, interferon-gamma, interleukin-4（Il-4）, Il-10 and Il-17）, in the CP at 14 days after ischemia. Furthermore, we analyzed the correlation between the expression of these genes and neurogenesis. Our results showed that Cop-1 was capable of stimulating an upregulation in the expression of the genes encoding for brain-derived neurotrophic factor, insulin-like growth factor 1, neurotrophin-3 and Il-10 in the CP, which correlated with an increase in neurogenesis in the subventricular and subgranular zone. As well, we observed a downregulation of Il-17 gene expression. This study demonstrates the effect of Cop-1 on the expression of growth factors and Il-10 in the CP, in the same way, presents a possible mechanism involved in the neurogenic effect of Cop-1.

Fetal vs adult mesenchymal stem cells achieve greater gene expression, but less osteoinduction

AIM: To investigate adenoviral transduction in mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) and effects on stemness in vitro and function as a cell therapy in ***: Bone marrow-derived adult and fetal MSC were isolated from an equine source and expanded in monolayer tissue culture. Polyethylenimine(PEI)-mediated transfection of pc DNA3-e GFP or adenoviral transduction of green fluorescent protein(GFP) was eval.ated in fetal MSCs. Adenoviral-mediated transduction was chosen for subsequent experiments. All experiments were carried out at l.ast in triplicate unless otherwise noted. Outcome assessment was obtained by flow cytometry or immunohystochemistry and included transduction efficiency, cell viability, stemness(i.e., cell proliferation, osteogenic and chondrogenic cell differentiation), and quantification of GFP expression. Fetal.and adult MSCs were then transduced with an adenoviral vector containing the gene for the bone morphogenic protein 2(BMP2). In vitro BMP2 expression was assessed by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. In addition, MSC-mediated gene delivery of BMP2 was eval.ated in vivo in an osteoinduction nude mouse quadriceps model. New bone formation was eval.ated by microradiography and ***: PEI provided greater transfection and viability in fetal MSCs than other commercial chemical reagents. Adenoviral transduction efficiency was superior to PEI-mediated transfection of GFP in fetal MSCs(81.3% ± 1.3% vs 35.0% ± 1.6%, P lar in adult MSCs(78.1% ± 1.9%). Experimental study of friction dissipators for seismic protection of building structures

This paper presents the results from unidirectional shaking table tests of two reduced scale steel models of a building frame, with one and two floors, respectively. These frames incorporate friction dissipators at every floor. The inputs are sine-dwells and artificial.and registered earthquakes. This study is part of a larger research project aiming to assess the seismic efficiency of friction dissipators by means of an integrated numerical.and experimental.approach. Inside this framework, the main objectives of these experiments are to：（i） collect a wide range of results to calibrate a numerical model derived within the project, （ii） clarify some of the most controversial issues about friction dissipators （including behavior for inputs containing pulses, capacity to reduce resonance peaks, introduction of high frequencies in the response, and self- generated eccentricities）, （iii） better understand their dynamic behavior, （iv） provide insight on the feasibility and rel.ability of using simple friction dissipators for seismic protection of building structures and （v） characterize the hysteretic behavior of these devices. Most of these objectives are satisfactorily reached and relevant conclusions are stated.
